There was the royalist period, a gap of 3 years, then the Nationalist period. Apparently nothing happened from 1936 to 1939.
Other than that we (adult, teen boy) liked the museum - as someone else noted it has a lot of open space, but it's a good morning's visit. As someone else noted, not much is left of the original building except a covered space in which one can gaze at foundations from walkways.
If you're only in Toledo for a day, don't stop here. Go to the cathedral, walk the streets, buy some marzipan at Convento de Santo Domingo el Antiguo.
