“A really cool fortification - now a museum”
Reviewed 26 July 2014

Neat history of Toledo and fantastic views of the town from the towers. Some cool military exhibits and armaments in the museum.

“completely jumbled site; very disappointing”
Reviewed 14 July 2014

We are all history buffs and were looking forward to this. However, none of the three of us could figure out where to go or what to do. We got lost and turned around. Lots of open space and yet I wound up twice in "no-go" areas without meaning to. So, good luck if you go; be sure you get someone to take you to the beginning and show you how to see it.

“Interesting but expected more.”
Reviewed 13 July 2014

Despite dominating the Toledo skyline, this museum is far from being the best thing you'll see in Toledo. There are a lot of empty spaces and the descriptions could be better. Thankfully we had a guide who gave us some background as to the Alcazar's role during the Spanish Civil War which was very interesting. It's great that it has been rebuilt after it was almost completely destroyed but as a museum I expected more on the historical significance of Toledo.

“Unexpectedly varied”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

It isn't just a museum of the Spanish army. There's also a section on 'fighting before armies' - Visigothic warriors, early Christian heavy cavalry… - and the whole of the centre of the museum is devoted to the Alcazar and its history (Roman, Arabic, Christian, Imperial), with the exposed remains of the towers, walls etc. But the main subject is still the history of the Spanish army - medals, uniforms, artillery, the difference mechanisation made… There's also a cafe, which is said to be good. (They do meals.) It's pretty extensive, and it covers different floors, but there are escalators and lifts. Explanatory panels are in Spanish and English.

“Great for Military History”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

The original alcazar has mostly been destroyed during Spain’s civil war and was entirely rebuilt with little original structure. It was a great tribute to the military history of Spain and some of that history was interesting to me. But all the re-builds seemed disingenuous
