“worth climbing the stairs”
Reviewed 25 April 2013

We were very pleased with this restaurant. The decoration and table settings were impressive. The service a bit, but only a bit, irregular as the owner doubled as the only waiter and coped remarkably well. An interesting and varied menu and well presented food. Very good price quality. I think we paid just over 20E each for a three course dinner with extra drinks and coffees. We would definitely eat there again. We felt as if we had been to a private dinner party.

“good food, secondhand desert”
Reviewed 3 April 2013

we‘ve been to this place 28 march 2013 in the early afternoon. The main dishes were pretty good, nothing to complain about so far.

Before my friend had even finished his main dish the waiter, a certain jesùs, served the desert - although according to the menue we had the choice between desert and coffee. The dessert itself consisted of a piece of cake and some industrial icecream. Unfortunately the icecream was totally melt, and the two pieces of cake had different sizes. It was obvious by the shape of the two pieces that one of them had been served before to another table and somebody had even started to eat from it. This is totally inacceptable and it‘s a pitty, because it turned my opinion of this place 180 degrees. A disgusting disappointment.

“Seriously Delicious Throwback Restaurant”
Reviewed 6 November 2012

Stumbling upon a great restaurant is one of the great joys of life. El Cobertizo was one of these finds. While visiting beautiful Toldedo, we were looking for a place that served traditional fare at a good price. It was already 3 o'clock so we were a bit worried about finding anything non-touristy that would take us.
Walking from Santo Tome (where we had just been seeing the Count of Orgaz) towards the Zocodover, we encountered the menu for this upstairs restaurant. It had just the things that we were looking for, specifically venison and partridge. The price for their lunch menu was only 13 euros and included wine, we had to check it out. We walked up the stairs and peeked into an empty dinning room. (The restaurant is actually built over a passage between two buildings). We were greated by a pleasant but very formal older gentleman that invited us in and promptly sat us down. He gave us our menus, poured us a glass of wine and brought bread and sliced chorizo.
Our selections were: starters: judias con perdiz and ensalada verde con perdiz; main: venado and salmon grille. The food was amazing! The partridge in the bean stew was so tasty and tender. The venison, served in a bowl with a lovely thin meat gravey and new potatoes was so delicious. The most amazing thing of the experience however, was the service. The restaurant server/proprieter was incredible. We've not encountered this type of service since, Boulud's in NYC! He was very formal, but gracious and professional. My wife dropped a knife and he appeared magically from the other room with a knife in hand - instantly!
The dining room was empty, I believe we slipped in before he had closed the place up, but we were enchanted by the place, service, and food.
