This review is affected by our difficulty with finding and checking into this hotel. The room was ok, bed hard, excellent location, breakfast ok, but trying to find the hotel was extremely frustrating as there is no sign (except on the roof). Saw a sign saying "hotel" (amidst many hotels with actual names) and after circling several times, finally pulled the car over on a corner with cars zipping by and my husband went in to see if this was it. It was. Parking lot quite close by but we had a lot of stuff in the car. No one could help us with our things, no trolley. Couldn't leave the car so he had to make many trips (bad back so couldn't carry too much at a time). We were told they weren't allowed to put up a sign with their name because of their location. Just be forewarned that if you have more than 2 pieces of luggage you will need one person in the car and one person to unload. The other difficulty, at least with our room, was that if you open the (glass) bathroom door, the light goes on automatically and stays on for quite a while, which is hard on the person trying to sleep.

Hotel is close to the bus station, across from Arco Puerta de Santa Maria which leads straight to the Cathedral and the main plaza. The hotel does not have an spacious lobby and it does not need one. As I came in the door exhausted from an overseas trip to Madrid and then bus to Burgos, I was received very cordially in a small desk area with an elevator behind. I was impressed with cleanliness. Room had modern furniture, a small notebook type computer. Even though there was a festival going on the weekend, room was quiet with closed windows.

COULD IMPROVE: I did requested and did NOT get a wake up call. When I noted this to the person at the Front Desk he just shrugged his shoulders.... Upon departure the billing process was a bit slow and the Front Desk lighting was a bit too dim at that time of the morning (I had an early start on the Camino de Santiago). The bathroom had a bit of stale smell; ponded water? It went away at intervals, but I could still smelled it at times. All in all, I have to think hard to point out deficiencies.

Excellent stay, defi

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the 4th floor with a view to Arco de Santa Maria.

Excellent location for visiting historic centre of Burgos.
Clean modern rooms and I think most have excellent view of the old gate into the town and the cathedral behind.
We arrived by car and parked in the adjacent public car park the first night but later we parked in a nearby street which was free in the evening and on Sunday.
If you do not have a rate including breakfast I recommend the little cafe on the ground floor which was excellent value and good quality and friendly staff - always smiling.

Room Tip: even better view and less traffic noise higher up

We stayed at this hotel, arriving from the Madrid airport, about to embark on a 300 mile bike ride. The staff was outstanding -- patient with our questions, helpful and friendly with our problems (our bikes had been delivered ahead of our arrival, and there were issues more complicated than a regular hotel stay. Everyone was patient, helpful and kind). The room was clean and comfortable, the location ideal -- on the river, directly across from the cathedral. A fantastic start to an amazing trip.

Our room was very modern, the bath area was designed as a glass box within the bedroom.
It had a mini laptop you could use.
Most of the bedrooms had a Juliette balcony over looking the attractive view towards the cathedral.
The name of the hotel is high on the roof which you do nt see as you drive along.
The parking was in the public underground parking around he corner and cost 13. 55 a day.
The helpful girl on reception was friendly but we felt very busy as she also had to run the cafe area next to the reception.
Also we were late booking in as our room was still being cleaned at 3 pm so we had to leave our cases and return later.
The bedside light was broken and a nearby light switch did not work.
Perhaps the hotel does not employ enough staff or is trying to cut costs?
Our lunch in the cafe was fine and the coffees came with orange juice and a Biscuit .
Our evening meal was good in the downstairs restaurant but it was a small area that lacked any atmosphere.
Our breakfast the next morning was also downstairs and was a very basic continental.
Recommended for the view, location and for a modern room.

I stayed one night at Hotel Via Gotica in March 2013. I arrived with the night train from Lisboa, and therefore checked in at around 07 in the morning. Due to an early departure the next morning, I asked if it was possible to have my complimentary breakfast one day earlier. I was told that the buffet breakfast was not open, but that I could choose whatever I wanted from the cafetería that the hotel has in the same building. A perfect solution for me, and a good breakfast (I loved that they served coffee from bigger cups here). By the time I finished eating, a room had been made available.

My room was on the second floor, with great views of the cathedral. Unfortunately, the room smelled of cigarette smoke – either the guests that were here before me smoked in the room, or it came from the ventilation system (I think the latter). The room reeked, and I did not want to open the windows too much either, since it was only 4 degrees outside. Knowing that there were no other available rooms, I did not complain. Apart from this, the room was clean, nicely decorated (with a great “lake” wallpaper over the bed) and stylish. Although the room was kind of smallish, it worked out perfectly for me.

The hotel is located only five minutes’ walk from the cathedral, and less than three minutes’ walk from the bus station. In the building next to the bus station, there is a fairly big Élarbol, if you fancy stocking up or eating a quiet lunch in your room. I took a taxi from the train station for 9 euros.

The hotel offers a great location and modern rooms to a fair price, and I would definitely stay here again.
