“Good deal!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2012

I booked this for a very good price at booking.com, and had a very pleasant stay. This is a classical three-star hotel, a bit worn in the edges, but absolutely adequate. The location is slightly outside the main centre, but still very practical, as the area around has a number of restaurants catering for locals. The San Marcos monastery is just around the corner, and the railway station is not too far off either. The staff is very friendly, and I find it rather touching that someone has hand-written a list of recommended tapas bars on the back of the copies of city maps in the reception. In fact, they seem to know more about tapas than of old churches (...and old churches are explained to death in every guidebook anyway...). Inside tapas information should never be underestimated!

They seem to do business with groups - sports teams etc. The decor, the views, the smells - it all was just screaming Franco era. I had zero sleep in that place. Too hot, had to open the window - in the middle of February. The best part was the trashy Spanish TV show about the royal family. We were very close to booking another hotel [the only reason we didn't was that it was paid for already]. Value?? What's the price tag you'd put on a sleepless night in a dingy slum that's out of way? The people at the desk were nice.
Go to Q!H [right outside the Cathedral] , or NH Plaza Mayor [smack in the middle of the old town], or Boccalino [that I reviewed earlier, since I have stayed there].

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere

The receptionist here was not exactly welcoming. She spoke as little as possible - and it was only when we got to our room that we realised that she had not even told us when breakfast was served. Nor was this, or almost any other information, available in the room.

The hotel was apparently refurbished in 2008, but despite all the modern art around it felt very old fashioned and rather dingy. Only thing that took our fancy was the all-singing all-dancing shower in the bathroom.

Things did not really improve at breakfast, which was a very ordinary buffet presided over by a man who had as much interest in the guests as the receptionist of the day before; and who spent most of his time on the telephone. (We went out to a cafe after our first day)

Only real plus the low price.

Oddly the hotel restaurant was in a different league - really good food and good service, albeit in a higher price range.

This hotel is about a 10 - 15 minute stroll, with luggage, from the bus station. It's an easy walk to the cathedral and other sites. One of the only hotels we stayed at in Spain where we got a queen size bed, instead of two twins pushed together.

As an art lover, i loved the decor of this Hotel, the sixth floor is just great. My single room came complete with an LCD 17" TV, DVD player and DVD collection!!! Bar/lounge area is a little small, but i didnt really use it.

The staff are wonderful, very friendly and obliging with a good level of English.

Fantastic situation too, just 150M from San Marcos and the river, and a 10 minute stroll to the historical centre.

Food is of a high level, their Baked Alaska is to die for. Breakfast, however, wasn't to my taste. I'd recommend breakfast from the cafe over the otherside of the square
