Hostal Sara is located in the middle of the old town about half way between Plaza Mayor and the University. The rooms are comfortably large, recently decorated, and spotlessly clean. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. We'll certainly stay here again. However, as others have commented, noise can seem to travel within the Hostal - one night we were kept awake by an over-excited conversation in the next room. Also, the Hostal's breakfast deal with the next-door cafe seemed poor value, as did the breakfast offers in a couple of other cafes in the street - you could do much better by walking a little further. We found cafe/bars just off the Plaza Mayor the best bet. (in making comparisons, check whether the breakfast is with fresh-pressed orange juice or juice out of a packet!)
We'll certainly stay here again.

The hotel is perfectly situated in the center of the city, and the receptionists were really helpful. The room was nice and perfectly clean.

On the downsides, our room, situated close to the elevator, was a little noisy.
Our only real disappointment was the breakfast. For 5 euros, we only got a coffee, an awful orange juice (the worst I've ever tasted in Spain) and one croissant. Not sufficient to wait until the late Spanish lunch... You can definitely get more or better for the same price in other nearby places.

We read the reports on Trip Advisor and booked it
Everything reported was true but the hotel was even better than I had hoped for
Best value yet on our Spanish road trip, the rooms have everything, Wi-Fi, Air Con, Hair Dryer, Plasma TV, our room (301) even had a bath, better than most of the 4 star hotels we stayed at on this trip, and the whole place was decorated really nicely and really clean
But the best thing was the receptionist - Sandra, probably one of the nicest people that we have ever met, so helpful with everything from advice on restaurants etc to the best historical buildings to visit with an explanation to go with it, she was so nice she even went out and bought us a present, some of the famous magic frogs of Salamanca to bring us luck
It has no dining room for breakfast etc but the pavement/street outside is full of great little places for this, in fact where we had breakfast was that close I could still pick up the hotel Wi-Fi on my phone - Now if your on a Gluten Free diet - Result !! because the cafe neft door has the GF logo on its sign and has GF bread for breakfast and will even make up Tapa's on GF bread as Tosta's
When we return to Salamanca we will return back to Sara's Hostel
The only point that I would mention, having decent Spanish language skills helps because not too much English is spoken around Salamanca and the hotel

Room Tip: Top floor is best (3rd floor) and there is a lift

We got a taxi from the train station. We had been advised not to get off the train at the last station but to get the station before that. The taxi ride was necessary but not too expensive. Hostal Sara is between the Plaza Mayor and the University. ie it was very central for all the main sights. It was down a narrow road with a few shops and cafes, bars and eating places. The Hostal is a whole building - with a manned reception and a lift. It was wonderful. The room was very nicely decorated and a decent size. The beds were comfortable. It was clean. There were chairs and a desk, bedside table and wardrobe. There was also a fridge with a bottle of mineral water. There was heating, which was on, as it was cold outside. The bathroom was lovely, decorated with very pretty tiles. It had a full size bath with shower and a bidet. No breakfast was provided but there were places to get it nearby. Our room was not noisy except for a few minutes in the middle of one night when it sounded like the rubbish collection lorry was in action. The staff were just so helpful and nice. I find it hard to make any criticisms at all. Perhaps only one tiny thing - there was an electrical air freshener in the bathroom which produced far too much smell - over powering.
We ate several times at the wonderful Patio Chico which is almost next door.
Instead of Wi - Fi they give you a cable (no charge) and there is a socket in the room to connect to your computer - Lan. It was very easy and gave a very good connection. But perhaps it might not work with an i-pad without a place to plug in the cable!
I would certainly stay here again

Room Tip: I think one can pay extra for a kitchen. This would be a great thing to do if staying longer than a...

Beautiful location for exploring Salamanca, only 200 m from the Plaza Mayor. The pension is situated in a lively street. Rooms in the front can be noisy late at night. The rooms are very well equipped. The family and staff are very friendly and service minded, but they should improve their skills in foreign languages.

We travelled to visit our daughter who is spending a year in the University of Salamanca. This was a great budget option: a room in the centre of town, looking down on the street, (it was not too noisy) beside the House of Shells. Not a hotel as such - no restaurant or bar or sitting area - but lots of bars and cafes around for breakfast and other meals. Would highly recommend if you just want a nice room to sleep in. Staff were extremely kind and helpful, my daughter was ill and with their almost non existant English and my poor Spanish and a good dictionary we communicated and they gave me great information and advice. Gracias.

Room Tip: Ask for a room looking onto the street
