We stayed for three nights in this lovely hotel. The room (on the 1st floor) was large and clean, with a couple of chairs and table, TV with some English news channels and a large bed. It was a bit harder than I like, but we slept well. I wished we had paid a bit more for a room on the 3rd floor with a view of the city, as that was beautifully lit up at night. Didn't have breakfast, which I thought was pricey at 12 euros, so can't comment on the food. There were plenty of cafes nearby where one could have coffee and pastries for about 5 euros for two people. It was about a 10-minute walk to the Plaza Mayor. We had a car and parked it in the hotel garage for the first two days (14 euros per day), but moved it outside on the Saturday evening when parking in the street was free.

Room Tip: Top floor with a view of the city

Our hotel, Abba Fonseca, is a new, beautiful building that looks like it is centuries old. It fits perfectly with the sandstone buildings in Salamanca. We had a fabulous view from our lovely room. At night the buildings, including the old and new cathedrals are lit up; they are magnificent. It was a little cold and rained at night (and parts of the days) but we left the window open because the fresh air felt better than the air conditioning.

We stayed in Salamanca for two nights when we traveled in October through Spain for a month. We wish we had stayed longer. We had one of our best meals on the trip at the hotel restaurant: beautiful presentation and all-around delicious. We each had a special three-course meal. Initially, we were told the restaurant was closed because of a private wedding. When we asked where the nearest restaurant was located and I complained about this situation, the general manager over heard us and told us that if we waited ten minutes, we would get to eat. It was well worth the wait. We felt guests should have been told about a private affair in advance or upon registering, since there is no restaurant that close.

Most things were wonderful about the hotel, beautiful and comfortable room, nice beds, extremely clean, plush towels, wi-fi in the rooms, good great breakfast and a staff who tried to be helpful but were lacking in some respects. We would heartily recommend this hotel to anyone without mobility issues.

However, for those with mobility issues, this hotel and Salamanca are quite difficult. We are seniors with knee and other mobility issues. It was difficult to get around in Salamanca with all the steps, hills and inclines. But, it was even more difficult to get staff to provide any information on transportation alternatives. We kept being told that taxis would not take us to certain places. This was not true. We were also told about a small train shuttle but they had no information about the times it ran and were told a taxi could not get us near it. It was very frustrating. If we had it to do over, we would have stayed near the plaza instead. The hotel is located a little bit away from the center. It is probably easy walking for most people but for us was an extreme hardship.

My wife and I stayed for two at this hotel and were really impressed with the spacious room and beautiful bathroom. Really fantastic value at the price we paid. Parking in the hotel's own garage was not for the faint-hearted if you have a big car as we did but we managed! Only a short walk to the centre of the city. We can really recommend the hotel to all.

Very nice hotel at the edge of the historic center but far enough to avoid all the noise from downtown festivals and late night revelers. The room was large and had free wifi, but we had to get a new password from the front desk every 24 hours to access it. The spa on the top floor was lukewarm the two times we used it, no big deal. Would definitely stay here again.

What a great hotel: set in the old quarter of the city, it is a fairly recent build but you wouldn't know it. It has been built using sandstone to match the local architecture and in the same early Renaissance style (on the outside).
Location is perfect, as it is 5 minutes' stroll from the Plaza Mayor, while still far away enough from the touristy bustle for you to look out and imagine yourself back in 16th Century Spain.
Service at reception is very professional and friendly.
Room was spacious, clean, tastefully decorated, comfortable, with plenty of wardrobe space.
We used the mini-bar fridge to store our own drinks with no complaints from the hotel.
Fantastic views of the Catedral Nueva, Catedral Vieja and the Universidad Pontifical.
I don't know how many hotels in Salamanca have a pool, if any, but if that is not a problem, I recommend booking here.
PS My wife insists I mention the bathroom, which was large, with a marble finish and quite beautiful (just like my wife, except she is not large or marbled!)

Room Tip: Ask for a room with 2nd or 3rd floor room view of the cathedral
