Who would think that a restaurant that close to Plaza Mayor would be so good? We had dinner in the outside terrace, on a lovely night and I have to say it was an absolute delight. This is a little courtyard just off calle del Concejo, with a handful of tables that create an intimate atmosphere. But what definitely made it for me was the attention of the staff. They are there for you without being intrusive, always looking after the little details. And you could tell by the amount of repeating customers around us that it is the norm of the house.
The food was delicious. My partner had oxtail which was falling off the bone, so tender it was. I had the steak, blue which is how I like it, and it is the first time when they came halfway through the meal to ask me if I wanted it tempered, in case it had gone a little cold as that usually happens when the meat hasn't been cooked much.
It was such a shame there was no space left for dessert, after such an abundant main course...
Will definitely come back when we visit Salamanca next time.

Had lunch here during a day-trip to Salamanca from Madrid on the TA reviews. And boy was this place a treat. We went all out. For starters we had the garlic soup with egg, bread and ham. It was a great find with amazing flavor profile. For mains my wife ordered the beef steak with garlic medium rear. It was cooked to perfection. Juicy, tender one can cut with a diner fork. I had the Castilian beef cheek stew with prunes. Amazingly tender cheeks and the stew was bread sopping good. And yes, Juan Carlos ate here and for good reason, one eats meals fit for a king!

Went here following the reviews, but they don't do meals on Sunday!

Still it's a very atmospheric bar area, dimly lit tables by candle light to enjoy a glass of wine by even if you're hungry!

The patio area is good too; v quiet and a welcome break from the hustle of nearby plaza mayor

Back in Salamanca our first feast was reserved at the Valencia. Chef Jose and Maitre Beatriz never disappoint, and again amazed us with their Traditional Castilian delicacies. They have a three generation advantage, as this historic restaurant has been in the family since 1958.
Try the wild Capón, (Rooster) , in Pepitoria sauce, in the menu since the grandparents, or the stewed Ox Tail, also a classic, ( we asked for sides of white rice and it was the perfect mix for the delicious sauce). If hungry start with "Potatoes for the Poor", and/or the Boquerones (fresh anchovies) and Tomatoes.
So fantastic was our meal that we came back two more times in ten days.
