Holiday Inn Express Barcelona City 22

Very first visit to Barcelona. What a place! Fantastic! Landed at Barcelona airport and got aerobus straight to Barcelona centre. We walked for what seemed like an age before we got to the hotel (once we found our bearings though, this walk wasn't too bad). We arrived at hotel and found that the Llacuna station is literally a minute walk from hotel. Llacuna is on the yellow line 4. This is a great line and passes through some useful tourist areas Jaume I, Urquinanona and Passeig de Gracia. The hotel itself is really nice. Rooms are very clean and the staff are all very helpful, professional and friendly. Rooms are air conditioned and the lighting is soft. Only thing that could be improved would be an extra English channel or 2 on the TV and free wifi. That said, you're not in Barcelona to watch TV and you can always utilise the free Barcelona wifi that is easily accessible throughout Barcelona. The breakfast is great to. All continental choice but there is plenty to pick from and the coffee is lovely. Rooms cleaned everyday and the shower is hot and powerful. Although not part of the hotel there is an anytime fitness club directly under the hotel. I never knew this but had I known I'd have brought some gear to go and train a couple of times. The gym also has a studio and some classes including bodypump. Come out of the hotel and turn left....la Rambla de Poblenou. Fantastic tree lined street. Restaurants, cafés, ice cream parlours, cocktail bars. Loads and loads of choice. Fantastic. Turn right and walk straight down...you come to the beach. If you turn left and go the opposite direction, you'll come to a great shopping centre, loads of clothes shops, eateries, cinema and massive Carrefour (superb superstore, like asda, sainsburys). I'm definitely going back to Barcelona and I'm going back to this hotel. If you're looking for 5 star hotels with swimming pools on the roof, go more central. If you want to go soak up Barcelona and all the delights she holds, you can't go wrong with the HI Express. Fantastic.

A hotel that offers a lot for a little money! Great service, average rooms and very good breakfast. In a quite location, near metro station and a short walk away from a shopping center. Poblenou is a perfect area with a lot of cafés and restaurants very close to the beach.

We stayed here for 6 nights on our first trip to the city.
After reading reviews we didn't know what to expect but we were really happy with our stay here.
Forget what people say about location - it's so easy to get in and out of the centre by metro!

Closest station is Llacuna.
From the hotel turn right and walk towards the large chimney, turn left and walk down the street at its right there.
Your on the L4 line and it's best to buy a t10 pass which gives you 10 trips and it can be used by multiple people. Around €10.40
Best station to get into the centre is Jaume 1 - metros run every 3 minutes up until 1am.
You can, if you fancy also walk the beach front into the centre, around 45 mins but a gorgeous walk on a sunny day.

Honestly really easy and pleasant, so this hotel is perfect for people wanting to get out and about and see Barcelona and come home to a clean hotel.
Turn left when you come out of the hotel and your in Pobleuno which is a great little local district.

Service great and breakfast ok.

Highly recommend

Was a bit wary about staying here, but every other hotel was booked out in BCN. The rooms were very clean, bed was good, internet was slow. The breakfast was a bit disappointing, reminded me of something out of a hostel and skipped it the second day.

We stayed at HIX Barcelona City 22 from 5 May for 5 nights. We were a little apprehensive after reading some of the reviews but had completely different experiences. We had emailed the hotel before with some requests re our room and even though the hotel was fully booked we were allocated what we'd asked for. The room was a good size and we managed to find a home for most of our belongings – believe me we do not travel light! Other bits and pieces we left in our holdall. The beds was comfortable and the shower was one of the best we've ever had, being detachable and with a good flow of water.

The staff in every area of the hotel were very friendly and the reception staff were excellent and extremely helpful. (Many thanks again Jordi!)

Bars and restaurants are plentiful in the Ramblas de Poblenou and this is one block from the hotel, that is less than 5 minutes' walk. How can anyone say there's nowhere to eat! It's a pretty walk along the Ramblas and when going right is leads to the beaches which are very sandy.

A 10-minute walk from the hotel is Glories Commercial Centre, with many shops, a cinema complex and a few eateries, plus an enormous Carrefour supermarket. It's opposite the gherkin-shaped building which is lit up at night.

There is a Mercadona supermarket on the next block to the hotel, on the corner of the Ramblas, and we bought our water there at 60 cents for 6 litres!

We bought a T10 card to travel around, which can be used on the metro, buses, trams and train from the airport. (It covers 10 journeys.) And you can tavel for 1.25 hours changing lines on the metro or transferring to buses without being re-charged. And you can share the card. We also used it to travel from the airport to the hotel. If you decide to do this you take the RENFE train to Barcelona Passeige de Garcia on the R2 line. You then change to metro L4 (Yellow line) heading to La Pau. It takes 5/10 minutes to do the change, depending how much luggage you have. We had a large suitcase, cabin suitcase and a holdall and managed fine. Alight at Llacuna (which is 6 stops away). There are lifts at Llacuna station, and it's a 5-minute walk to the hotel. As trains only run every 30 minutes and we had an early return flight, we took the metro to Urquinacona (5 stops). It's then a 5-minute walk to Place de Catalunya, and finally we took the Aeroporto bus which costs 5 euros 90 each and runs every 10 minutes. You need to make sure you know which terminal you want as one goes to T1 and the other to T2. If all else fails a taxi is around 40 euros!

Breakfast gets very crowded so we tried to be down by 7.45. If you want a lie-in go after 9.30; 9.00 can still be very busy.

So don't be put off by other reviews, this HIX is an excellent base for all the sights and the beach, and in our opinion compared with the bigger hotels, very reasonably priced.

Stayed for here for 10 days - and will definitely be back. The location is a little bit away from the beaten tourist track, but this is an advantage. It's a quiet area, but just around the corner is the Rambla del Poblenou, a beautiful boulevard with countless bars and restaurants frequented by locals. At the end of the Rambla you're at the beach - if you don't want to stroll it's about a 10 minute walk. The Metro station Llacuna is only about 5 minutes' walk from the hotel, and it's only 4 stops to the Barri Gotic, the centre of town. When I asked what wifi cost, they gave me a (free) "IHG Rewards Club" membership, and so it was free (and fast). Otherwise, it's a modern hotel, the rooms were clean, the breakfast was good and the staff friendly and helpful! Recommended!

I would stay here again. It is spotless and conveniently located to a wonderful walking street with many restaurants that have outdoors seatings and it is a just a few blocks from the sea. We could walk to the pickup location for the Hop a Bus tours and yet feel like we were living along side the locals. The staff was very helpful booking excursions and accomodating our sleeping requirements with extra pillows and water.

Room Tip: Top floor always so no one is clumping above you.
