If you like a small bedroom with magenta and red decor and Indian restaurant flock wallpapers then this is the place for you. If you like a bed headboard with 50+ dazzling pink lights shining down on you then book it now!

If taps with handles and knobs that drop off in use are your thing, you won't be disappointed! Trickling showers and unstable water pressure and temperature adds excitement to ablution time - you'll love it here. The washing/changing area will appeal to exhibitionists with a 3 sided glass shower cubicle and a loo that shares its door with the wardrobe. And water wasters will adore the sink with the plug that doesn't close. Wet shavers can use a wine glass to rinse the razor.

If dimly lit hotel corridors serviced by lifts seemingly with minds of their own amuse you then book a high floor. Perhaps a drink at the bar is your perfect end to the day? Well don't rush back because the closest (we could find) to a bar is the perimeter of the 11th floor observation deck where you can buy drinks at the counter. Then if the main area isn't overflowing with residents and locals and you can climb over the people lolling around in the few loungers by the smallest 'swimming' pool I've ever seen you can relax and watch the sun set.

And finally if you like breakfast (which is very good) seated amongst large groups of business people, tea that is served in varying temperatures and methods, and sitting at low tables because all the proper tables fill up quickly, fill your boots!

It looks better in the Thomas Cook/Cresta brochures that we found it to be. We didn't eat there in the evenings as we never saw anyone in the beautiful dining room. We ate outside on the paved area where a few cafes have al fresco dining but one we tried was very expensive (2 paellas £40) and the other was very poor quality.

You could describe Barcelo Raval as 'modern' or you could say 'garish'. It may be in a 'regenerating' area but we found it still 'run down'. It's not an awful place, it's just not a great place.

hoplessly impractical rooms. Also very dark rooms with not enough lighting.

Several in our group reported that it was impossible to turn on the water in the shower. A visit to the front desk amended that.

Good service and an adequate restaurant.

A little shady neigborhood with frequent police car visits.

Design hotel in the heart of Rambla de Raval. Ideal location to explore the city. The desig is taken to the real edge of proper functioning. Lack of storage spaces. Min. space to work at, And after all your closet has the same door as toilet :-) Food is great, we had a dinner there and it was amazing. Not to be missed. Just go there when you are a couple. Not suitable for families. They are known for great Sunday brunches. Enjoy :-)

Room Tip: Go for top floors and the view.

Just returned from a very enjoyable three days at the 'Raval', this was a modern, cylindrical hotel just five minutes walk from La Rambla, with a 360o rooftop viewing platform giving wonderful views all over the city.
Room - Very modern with huge comfortable bed, electrically operated curtains, expresso coffee maker, large flat screen Tv and I pod docking station. Would recommend room on higher floor for better views.
Breakfast - A wonderful choice of hot and cold items available, including champagne :)

We checked in for 3 nights and were upgraded to a deluxe room on the 8th floor, great views looking towards the gothic quarter end of town.

This hotel is clean and very comfortable, the rooms are modern with an odd bathroom set up in the centre, but the space works well. It takes a few minutes to work out all the electronic switches, the A/C reading was stuck on 888, pressing the keys made a difference but not much difference overall (room 815), so it was guesswork.

Love the fact the facilities are right up to date, nespresso machine and ipod dock. I bought some coffee capsules from home, although cortados outside are great. if your iPod etc does not have the old connecter bring a 3.5 to 3.5 mm lead to plug into the back of the radio unit.

Didn't have any issues in the area, hopefully a few years will see the area improve in general.

Coming from Airport, jump the train to psg. de Gracia (euro 3.80) and the get the metro L2 to Parallel down saint Pau and down Rambla Raval (avoid the direct road to Parallel from hotel at night time).

Try Quimet y Quimet of Parallel and Taller Tapas in the gothic Qtr for Tapas.
