Description: Sensi is located in the emblematic Gothic district of Barcelona, from which it takes its inspiration. It is a romantic and cosy restaurant with stone walls, exposed beams and handcrafted lighting, which, combined with the carefully selected soundtrack, creates a friendly and informal atmosphere. The menu is based on Mediterranean cuisine using the freshest seasonal ingredients, designed to delight the senses. Typical dishes include a duck pastry with potato and a port reduction; grilled king prawns with mango chutney and fine noodles, vegetable and sweet chilli; or marinated tuna tartar with sesame oil and crispy leeks. Its modern menu together with professional and attentive service makes Sensi the ideal place for any kind of evening out.

“Rushed and the owner is arrogant!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2014

My husband and I returned to Sensi Tapas as our first experience was very good. This time however everything seemed extremely rushed like they could not wait to get you out of the door to turn the table around. They made a lot of mistakes such as with our drink and food order. When we pointed out to the owner that we were still waiting for one dish, he insisted that we already had it! Overall it was not a nice experience and based on our second visit, we will not be returning.

“Excellent Tapas”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 June 2014

My wife and I discovered this place while walking down Carrer Ample. The food was excellent and perhaps the best tapas we experienced during our trip. Perhaps the biggest flaw with this restaurant is that they know they are good. When we walked in, the staff seemed irritated that it was empty enough that we were able to find a seat at the bar. In addition, they "recommend" you order 2-3 tapas. This is a somewhat non-polite way of requiring a minimum on # of tapas to order. Even though we were clear we only wanted 2, they forced us to order more or else we had to leave. Please be advised if you plan on dining here.

“Simply best choice for quality tapas, even if you're not into tapas ;-)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 May 2014

We tried once, and we couldn't resist returning 2 nights later! That's just superb tapas.
Excellent if you are looking for great food, a cosy and relaxed atmosphere, high quality service and a nice area. Indeed, it has it all.

First note the location and do not mix it up with Sensi Bistro on Carrer del Regomir (just a few blocks up north). Apparently that one is pretty good too, but I noticed travelers posting mixed reviews with the other place. The place did not even show up on the Barcelona Travel Guide while I did my usual EXTENSIVE restaurant search.

Find Sensi on Calle Ample, parallel to the sea road, just on the South end of the Gothic quarter/old city. This is a lively street with many great restaurants (tapas, Italian, just check your TA app), so you will have a back up plan.

Sensi is not too big, a bar for 10 people, a kitchen and room for a dozen tables. It fills up quickly and it gets busy from time to time. We were incredibly lucky to get the last table (no reservation) twice. Reserve if you wish.

This is not your ordinary tapas, extraordinary if you're not Spanish, special if you are. Hints of Asian are mixed into the treats. My girlfriend and I ate like mad men. My significant other couldn't get enough of the Duck Timbale (the house special) a mini tarte of duck. The choricito (chorizo sausages) were juicy, the tartar de atun exquisite. Please also try the Iberico Tataki so yumm. The Normandy pot will surprise you. Swordfish carpaccio, truffle risotto ah well it was just too much :-D

Have a sangria, this is the genuine stuff, not some waterish sweet red wine. Cava is good too.

On our 4 day trip we tried Lobo, Gilda, Txapela, which were really not too bad. But Sensi tops them all! Do not miss.

Don't forget, tourists find this place easily, so it gets full even before 21.00. Want to blend in? Don't leave your hotel before 21.30, stay for 2 hours, and have a drink in one of the many bars in this area.

“If you really enjoy a good tapas”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 May 2014

Some of my friends recommended this place if I really enjoy some good tapas. And indeed, it was delicious.

Even if we were a little bit to early we were expected and could joy an appetizer in the bar while waiting for our table.

Which came afterwards was really of a high level. The tapas we tasted were very good, the proposed wine was ok.

And all this - including a digestive - for less then 100€ for two persons.
