“Nice but Not 5 Star”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 June 2012

Funky, Trendy (feel) Hotel.
Friendly check-in staff but not 5* standards.
In a part of Barcelona that felt like it was 'out the way' of main activities and attractions - no local restaurants / bars I would want to visit.. Need to get a 10 Euro taxi or Metro in the City Centre.
My room was great and great value on 14th floor (I booked this Lastminute) good value however, I would have felt cheated if I had paid anymore. There were no tea/coffee making facilities, no hair dryer or bath robes - all the trimmings I would have as basics in a 5* Hotel.
If you get a deal here - great! If you want 5* and pay 5* then no!

if location is not a big issue, staying at the ME Barcelona is a great idea. Even though, you´re just a few minutes away to downtown, so no big deal.
All rooms are well equipped with hi-tech facilities, trendy style, and yet comfortable and warm. Choose a room on high floors to ensure good city views.
The red level service offered at the upper lounge is a very good added value, too.
and they have the fantastic 2 cielos restaurant, a nice pool and cool bars.
A perfect place for young travellers, couples, single travellers and those searching for a different hotel.

We stayed in ME BArcelona at the end of April and had an absolutely brilliant time. The staff were really friendly and genuinely helpful. Upon arrival we were given maps of the area and given really clear descriptions as to how to get around the area and train times and gave a couple of suggestions for places to go or to eat. The hotel itself is stunning, the bar and restuarant look amazing, and the staff here were again brilliant especially the staff at breakfast and dinner who were just so speedy and efficient! and the espresso martinis at the bar are to die for!

On one of the nights there was a singer in the bar who just made the atmosphere even more impressive and we sat with a couple of drinks for a lot of the evening listening to him.

We unfortunately missed out on the club and the swimming pool but we had a quick look at them as we were leaving and we do regret not going because they looked amazing. The restaurant didn't have much choice but the food was so tasty and well worth it. We purposefully came back early on the final night to eat in the hotel restaurant.

I also had a really unexpected reply to my survey responses which showed a real committment to customers even after our trip was over.

I'm definitely going to use ME again whether in Barcelona or elsewhere.

Room Tip: It was reported that higher floors have a better view but we were on 15 and even this had a good vie...

We stayed at the ME Barcelona on the last day of our honeymoon (via a priceline deal). While waiting to check in, we had the breakfast buffet. Prices were outrageous (22 euro a person) but we got half off by joining the points club. Otherwise - skip it.

During this time, the staff was sending Champagne (Cava), chocolate strawberries and goodies up to our room. They even wrote a lovely congratulatory note on the mirror. All 4 hotels that we visited in Barcelona were aware ahead of time that this was our honeymoon and ME Barcelona is the only one that did something special. We really appreciated this detail.

The hotel is very chic, calming and the modern design is impressive but it is not all that convenient to get to and from. I would have liked to have gone to the swanky bar and pool but we didn't have time. They looked really nice. The view from our 22nd floor room was amazing! We could see all the sights of the city, including a fireworks show.

I love my coffee and there was a huge Nespresso machine in the room. Bonus points! Aveda products, extra bonus points! If we had rented our vespa for several days (and thus had freedom of transportation), I would have definitely liked to have stayed at ME a little longer.

Just returned from 3 nights at this Hotel. Check in was excellent we were greeted at the door and assisted with our luggage, the reception staff were very friendly and efficient and escorted us to the lift. The room was very modern with wonderful views over the city (13th floor) was disappointed that there were no tea and coffee facilities just a mini bar with 5* prices for example small bottles of orange juice 5 euros (maybe they like the number 5) we bought orange juice from the garage next door 1.55 euros.

There was plenty of choice for breakfast, the only problem being that the bacon, sausage and eggs were really cold. The staff did not rush to clear used plates from the table, this also applied to the bar service where if the staff were doing something (slicing fruit for example) they would not even acknowledge you were waiting they just carried on with what they were doing and you had to wait, I don't know about anybody else but I would not call this 5* service.

We did not eat in the restaurant in the evenings but did look at the menu and this did not change for the 3 nights we were there. 5* ?

The pool area was very relaxing the only problem being that as you came out of the lift you had to walk through what they used as a night club and the black curtains made it very dark, in fact on my first day I actually walked in to a glass door, I was not the only one to do this as a lady who saw me stated she had done exactly the same thing a few minutes earlier so be warned.

The Hotel is a 15 minute walk to the beach and a 10 minute ride on the Metro in to the centre of Barcelona. Would probably stay on Las Ramblas if we return to Barcelona as this was in the hub of the city with lots of bars and restaurants.

We did enjoy our stay at this Hotel, maybe I am just being a bit picky with my negatives ........oops forgot to mention ME Barcelona has an award from trip advisor as travellers choice winner 2012 what more can I say.

I've stayed here a few times(work, I wouldn't choose this hotel out of choice). Its very fashionable with a few nice touches and very modern. Whoever designed the hotel hasn't made the fixtures and furnishings durable and hard wearing. There is a lot of white and mirrored surfaces. My bathroom was filthy. The toilet hadn't been bleached in a long time and the floor was covered in long hair. The corridors smell damp. The hotel can be noisy in the early hours.

It also feels quite seedy, there is a sex pack (cock ring, tickler, condoms) by the amenity tray with the tea and coffee! Feels a bit weird.

The pool is nice, a bit Towie but nice. Staff are okay. Pool staff bored and off hand.

Room Tip: Don't go near the lifts

We stayed at the ME Barcelona for 2 days during our visit to Spain. The hotel has very chic and impressive lobby and the staff was friendly and helpful. It has a very modern design which may not be for everyone but I thought the hotel had a pretty cool design.

Rooms
The rooms were very nice in size and the layout was great. We had a really nice view of the city and the hotel was very quiet...we didn't hear any noise and slept pleasantly. The rooms are very modern and sometimes I think comfort was forsaken for design. I think for women this may be more obvious...as there isn't a place to rest your leg in the shower to shave, the shower is nice but there isn't a tub so without a ledge to rest soaps, scrubs, shampoos and all that stuff we use...the small bin becomes cumbersome. Also the mirror with a light close by is mounted on a side wall so its difficult to get a great straight on shot if you are trying to put on make-up etc. The finishes look nice, but showed a great amount of wear. Our sink was peeling, the laminate was coming off the wall in show areas and in general the finishes were all laminate and Ikea like. The room also seemed like it had been empty for a while or not cleaned thoroughly nothing terrible, but a 1/2 used bottle of shampoo in the shower when we arrived and a couple toenail clippings on the rug that made you say "Hmm". We didn't use the pool or go to the rooftop lounge but they were both very beautiful when we went to take a peek. The other guests seemed pleasant enough and the staff was very helpful in providing directions to the beach and other places around the city. A newer mall is within walking distance and had plenty of good eateries and shopping. Overall this hotel is decent but definitely not a 5 star. I would probably try another establishment if I returned to Barcelona.

Room Tip: We stayed in 1110 and heard no noise and slept well.
