“great location but noisy”
Reviewed 11 May 2013

We had a corner room on the third floor, with one window overlooking La Ramblas and one overlooking the entrance to the market. The location of this hotel is great -- across from the Liceu Metro, central to many tourist destinations and restaurants, and right next to La Boqueria Market. The room was very clean and comfortable. The hotel staff was really helpful and responsive. As noted by a few other reviewers, the cons to this hotel are: 1) no counter in the bathroom on which to place toiletries; 2) half shower door that allowed water to drip all over the floor; 4) centrally controlled temperatures in the rooms; and 3) NOISE at night. The noise comes from La Ramblas as revelers walk the famous street at night, yelling and talking loudly and from early morning trucks. The room has a small free-standing closet and no drawers for clothes. There is a safe in the closet for valuables, and a mini fridge. Given its reasonable price, cleanliness and great location, I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: ask for a quiet room

Just had 3 nights at Ramblas Boqueria. Spotless hotel, lovely cleam rooms, firm but comfy beds, well equipped bathroom with hair dryer, free safe, friendly staff. Central location being at the heart of everything is a great plus but can be a problem at night. My son had a room at the back overlooking the market where there was a hubbub of noise through the day till about 9pm- not much of a problem, but the wife and I had a room at the front, which was not too noisy during the day but after 12ish it was very noisy with people shouting at each other across the street on there way home from the bars. We both used earplugs but were still awoken several times each night.
Both our rooms had small balconies, not big enough to sit out on but ok to stand and watch the united nations of tourists meander along the Ramblas. Is this the busiest street in the world? The GF is the small reception desk and lift, 0 floor is the small lounge, breakfast room and rear balcony with chairs and loungers (a sun trap in afternoons) and bedrooms on floors 1,2 and 3.
We paid an extra 10 euros each for breakfast and although it was ok there are better options nearby, particularly in the market approx' 50 feet from the hotel entrance.
I booked the hotel 7 months ago to be sure I would get rooms in a good hotel that was in the heart of the Ramblas and that's exactly what I got. Couldn't find anywhere in the hotel blurb about accessibility but the entrance is level off the street and there is a lift to all floors. the only area accessed by a few steps is the rear balcony.

Room Tip: Front rooms are shaded by the trees, good for watching the world go by. Back rooms have direct sun i...

Very nice hotel, we were sceptical as the hotel was reasonably priced and was right on La Rambla but we were pleasently surprised. We arrived early and were able to get straight into our room, the hotel was very nice and clean and the staff were very helpful. The room was a double room which opened onto a small balcony over looking La Rambla. The drain in the bathroom smelt a little bit but once we had opened the balcony doors and let some air in it was fine. The room was clean and nicely furnished with a small mini bar fridge. We bought some food and was able to have the mini bar emptied to fill with our own things. The staff were also happy to give us plates, glasses and cutlery. The bathroom was modern and seemed fairly new. The water was extremely hot in the shower, children could not have been left unsupervised in the shower. The room had a quirky feature on the ceiling, i'm not sure how original it is but it was very nice. There was only a head high mirror in the bathroom, a full length mirror would have been useful. The hotel has a nice sun terrace on the first floor which overlooks the La Boquira food market which was very nice in the sun. The market was very nice and handy for market - cheap packs of fresh fruit and smoothies for only 1 euro. We did not try the breakfast at the hotel but it smelt nice! Staff were very friendly and always happy to help. The Portugese man (Edgar maybe?) was particualy helpful booking a tour for us

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking La Rambla are noisy - builders starts work at 6am so these rooms might not be suit...

Overall: This is a lovely little boutique hotel that has the advantage of a fantastic location. If you’re looking for a 4 or 5-star hotel, or one that has a full range of services (like a restaurant, gym, etc.), then this isn’t for you. But if you’re looking for a clean, comfortable 3-star hotel with basic amenities at a reasonable price, in a location centrally located for tourism and sightseeing, then this is a good choice. This hotel has a couple of small quirks, but overall, none of them are deal-breakers.

Location: Right on La Rambla, directly in front of La Boqueria market – two very popular spots. The Liceu metro stop is literally steps in front of the hotel, which is extremely convenient. The Plaza Catalunya, where the Aerobus (direct bus to/from the BCN airport) picks up/drops off, as well as the hop on/hop off tourist busses are located, is about 3 blocks away (easy 10 minute walk). The area around the hotel was safe and clean, and is buzzing with activity by both locals and tourists alike.

Hotel itself: Small, but charming and updated with trendy, if not eclectic, décor (i.e., the mural on the 2nd floor with broccoli and other veggies). On the ground floor, there is no real “lobby”, but who cares – all you need is the front desk, and the elevator. On the next floor, there is a small sitting area with chairs, a TV, a book trading shelf, and a baggage scale. All this is next to the breakfast room, which is light and cheery. One floor up is an open patio/deck for guests, with a few chairs and tables overlooking the bustling Boqueria market. The other 3 or 4 floors are guest rooms – half face the front (La Rambla) and half face the back (La Boqueria).

Rooms: The rooms were essentially fine, but there were a couple small quirks (problems?) that I’ll address in turn. We had a room facing La Rambla, with glass doors opening to a miniature balcony in both the main room and the bathroom (although those in the bathroom are not able to be opened). The room was adequate in size (European standards) and had two twin beds, a work-desk and chair, a flat screen TV, a mini-fridge and a closet. The bed was a little hard, and I would’ve liked more pillows, but overall not horrible. The bathroom was modern and updated. As is often the norm in European hotels, there was no shower curtain – only a small piece of glass to help contain the water (which of course doesn’t work). The water pressure was sometimes powerful and sometimes weak, and the same with the water temperature. It wasn’t a deal breaker, but was a bit annoying. The biggest problem with the bathroom was that there was nowhere to put your toiletries, cosmetic bag, brushes, etc. There was plenty of space in the room or on the walls, so the hotel really should consider adding a shelf or two for this purpose. We brought our chair in from the work-desk and put it in the bathroom, just to put ‘stuff’ on. Also, there is no heating vent in the bathroom – so it gets cold, especially if you close the door (to keep the light and noise out while sleeping, as there are no curtains on the bathroom windows). Speaking of heat – the air (hot or cold) is centrally controlled by the hotel. You have a thermostat in the room, but you cannot control the temperature. You CAN turn the fan off or on, though. I think the front desk should’ve explained this at check-in. Our room was freezing at night, and after an hour of freezing and frustration, I finally figured out that I could turn on the fan, and it would at least blow some warm air into the room – I just couldn’t control how warm that air was. Finally, the last thing about the room is the noise. There wasn’t any noise problem with regard to the other rooms/guests – but there is a lot of noise from La Rambla. The louvered doors outside of the windows do help control the noise some, and there are some fantastic blackout curtains on the windows/doors in the bedroom, but there’s just no way to truly ‘soundproof’ the room. The noise is NOT the fault of the hotel – La Rambla is simply a popular place, especially on the weekends, so there will inevitably be noise until about 4am or 5am from all of the people out and about at night. However, just be aware of this fact, and if you sleep light or don’t want the potential noise, it’s probably best to ask for a room facing the back (the market) versus one facing the front (La Rambla).

Other amenities: The hotel has free WiFi throughout, which was a big plus. The service was fast and easy – but you do need to ask for the password at checkin, and your password will be good for up to 4 devices in your room. It was a bit annoying having to enter the password every single time you access the internet, but it was even nicer to have the service in the first place. The hotel offers a continental breakfast buffet, but we did not get it included in our room price because we didn’t think it was a good value as it would’ve increased our room rate by 20Euro a night. We looked at it, though, and it was a very small offering of cold meats, cheeses, yogurt and breads, along with coffee, tea and hot chocolate. They also offer a mini-breakfast of a croissant and coffee for 4Euro, if you prefer. I think you could probably do better by grabbing something from the Boqueria market, or from a nearby café. One nice thing was that the hotel did allow us to have a complimentary coffee from the machine each morning, even though we didn’t pay for the breakfast.

Staff: We interacted with about 3-4 different staff members, and each one was fantastic. They all spoke wonderful English, and were extremely helpful and courteous. They provided assistance with maps, sightseeing, flamenco show tickets, finding a wine bottle opener, and printing our airline boarding passes.

All in all, this is a wonderful little hotel. Sure, it had a few quirks – but the location and the price outweighed all of them. I would definitely stay here again – I’d just ask for a room facing the back next time, in an effort to reduce the noise during the night.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the front (La Rambla) are noisy at night. Rooms facing the back (La Boqueria market) a...

Amazing price for that location. Literally 2 steps from Bouqeria where u can buy all kind of delicious stuff! Also its right in the centre of Rambla street close to Liceum metro station that leads u to all necessary attractions. Gothic quarter is 2 steps away too. I looked around to see if i can pick any other hotel that looks better but Eurostars is the best!
From minuses I can only mention noise if u have room on street side. Thats it :)
Good luck in exploring Barcelona starting from that wonderful hotel !

If we were early risers we would have given a higher rating. As it was, the early morning noise of doors opening and closing and the rumble of the metro were not welcomed. But the room was nice (we had a lovely balcony in the back overlooking the market), the bed was comfortable and since we had our own pillows, the rocks they offer up were no bother. Best of all was the central location. We were able to walk most everywhere and there are loads of nearby restaurants as well. The hotel was very well priced for what it offered.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room on the first floor with a balcony at the back.
