My husband and I were intent on trying the popular restaurants mentioned in guidebooks and on websites, however, the helpful concierge over at Mercer Hotel recommended us to try Montiel. We were a bit skeptical since Montiel wasn't mentioned in our guidebook but ended up not disappointed at all!
Recommended to try the degustation menu -- about 8 to 10 small portions of the chef's creations. Great variety of local and ingredients. Wine pairing also good. Dishes may be small, but once I got towards the end of the tasting menu I barely had room for dessert.
We sat downstairs towards the back, so it felt like we had some added privacy. The dedicated server to our table who was very friendly and knowledgeable about each dish. Mind you this is Spain where dinner is an experience (especially with such an expensive meal). Nothing is rushed, so if you want your meals served and dishes taken away quickly you're better off going to McDonalds.
Great romantic dinner, and absolutely loved it! We walked off the calories by taking a nice stroll back to the hotel.
