“Perfect City Break Hotel”
Reviewed 12 March 2014

Travelled to Barcelona for a friends special birthday, we were a party of four girls sharing two rooms. The hotel is located just off La Ramblas, and is within easy walking distance to everything you need. The facilities were spotless, the shower (a small point, but seriously worthy of note!) was fantastic. All of the staff were courteous and friendly and with a very special thank you to the concierge (Jesus) who looked after us upon arrival, and helped make our stay just that little bit more memorable. We didn't get to see the restaurant or pool during a 2 night stay, but if I go back to Barcelona, I would definitely stay here again.

As previous reviewers have said this hotel is in a perfect location for getting the most out of a break in Barcelona. Immaculately clean, excellent staff and very secure. Beds were comfy and the shower was great. We booked room only and enjoyed breakfast in the sun in the nearby Plaza Real. No bar in the hotel but the mini bar was well stocked and there are countless bars, cafés and restaurants within minutes walk. La Rambla is very noisy and hectic but we can honestly say that we were mostly unaware in our 2nd floor side room.
We used the Areobus 1 which conveniently dropped us in Plaza Cataluyna. We then walked down La Rambla to the hotel. Tickets are 5.90 Euro each. The whole transfer took about 30 mins.

This hotel, perfectly situated on las ramblas, was fantastic for our stay. Whilst quite a small hotel, it was very clean, the room contained everything you would want from a hotel (including satellite TV) and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We did have a problem with the lights in our room; the fuse kept tripping and everything would go off but the staff were always very helpful and sorted it out for us.

In terms of location, you are 20 seconds from las ramblas and you are half way down the stretch so you can turn left or right and walk 10 minutes either way to cover the entire street! Whilst the street is noisy, we never really had an issue from the hotel room as we couldn't really hear anything during the evening/night from our room.

The only small issue was that the 'double bed' was just two singles pushed together but they wouldn't stay together, creating a gap in the night which you would sink into!

Other than that, I would highly recommend this hotel.

A small, modern and clean hotel right off Las Ramblas steps from La Boqueria market and Liceu metro station. The staff are friendly and helpful. Great breakfast - a selection of fresh breads and pastries, fresh fruit, sliced meats and cheeses, juices, milks, teas (bag and loose leaf) - available in a light and airy room downstairs. Would stay there again.

The location is perfect. There is no better spot to start sightseeing Barcelona. Close to metro station and all important things to see. The hotel is clean and very new. The breakfast is good. The hotel is a bit noisy between the rooms and from the corridor, but you don't hear the street noise. The rooms are good, not too big but everything is included (even a bath).
There is free WIFI with a good connection.

This hotel was perfect for what we were after. We had just 2 nights and 1.5 days in Barcelona and so we weren't bothered about amazing views and huge rooms, just somewhere good to stay. Even if im not in the room for long i still like a certain standard of accommodation and this was perfect-incredibly clean, modern and a decent sized room with a nice bathroom.

Its situated just a couple of minutes walk from the nearest metro (Liceu). This line will take you to the main station where you can get a train to the airport, whole journey takes about 1hr total. As we were short on time and flew in at around 9pm we decided to get a taxi from the airport which was about 36 euros, so the metro/train option is a cheaper option at around 12 euros for 2 ppl.

Hotel is easy to find and check in was good. View was of the side street but as i say, we didnt book this for the views. If this is something you are after then the W hotel overlooking the port is the one, but is about £400 more per night! Despite being located on a road off the Ramblas, we didnt have any issues with noise while staying at the Hesperia. I did hear someone shouting one night but that was it, certainly no ongoing noise that would interrupt sleep. Beds were comfy. We paid £135 for 2 nights which i feel was a great price. It was out of season in January though. Im sure prices soar in the summer months but you will be paying for the location.

At 12 euros per person we decided not to opt for breakfast, instead we went to the Bouqueria market next door where we had a fresh juice for just 1.5 euros (so many flavours to choose from) and some pastries from the bakery. The market has the best fruit ive ever seen, HUGE strawberries! And there are many stalls where you can sit and drink cava and eat tapas, which people were doing at 10.30am...

My recommendations of what to do and see in such a short amount of time would certainly include going inside the Sagrada Familiar-it is stunning. Having been to Park Guell once before, id still recommend a trip up here as the views are fantastic. The port is pretty cool, especially when the sun was out which luckily it was, as you would hope when in Spain!

The El Born district to the right of the Ramlas had the greatest selection of quirky bars and independent restaurants and little shops, the Eixample shopping district has your high street and designer shops and some nice bars but we found many to be shut. Dry Martini Speakeasy bar was recommended but was shut and we could not fine Boca Grande and Bobby Gin-they looked pretty nice according to their websites so that was a shame!

We did find Milk bar in El Born by the port- its quite a small bar with friendly staff, lit with candles and does great cocktails and gourmet burgers. Cera 23 on Carrer Cera (just off the Carrer L'Hospital that the Hesperia is on) is also tiny but does a pretty good Raspberry Mojito. And a restaurant down a passageway off Carrer del Carme was a good find although no idea of its name! Tapas and cava wise im assured that Can Paixano (La Xampanyeria) is the best and oldest but sadly it was also closed when we went (huge big wooden doors if it is closed, people spilling out when busy no signage). But these are merely a tiny few of what the city has to offer. And actually, although i like to have an idea where to go beforehand, we did waste time trying to find these recommended places so sometimes is pays to just go with the flow!
