“Good location, Bad service”
Reviewed 20 August 2012

This hotel was perfectly situated in the Gothic quarter and Rambla with many restaurants around. The room was adequate & clean with a reasonable size bathroom but a very small room - thank god we also had a balcony which overlooked the main road and double glazing windows kept out the majority of street noise. The staff were not the friendliest or most helpful but we didn't have too much to do with them. Barcelona is beautiful and a joy to visit. Would go back to Barcelona but would look for a different hotel.

Even though the check in time was at 14:00 the room was available at 16:00 ! We felt very angry cause we were sooo tired cause of the long trip we had. One bath towel for a double room ! No toilet paper the next day! Poor breakfast for a 4 star hotel. Noisy due to the metro. Problem with the room access cards. The two good things were that the room was clean and the very good location of the hotel.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms are less noisy.

The good- location was excellent and walking distance to el born, gothic, rambla and the port. Also near the metro.
- the rooms were modern and clean.

The bad- the fridge/ mini bar didn't work
- the room was ground floor and the balcony window was broken and wouldn't lock. When I notified staff the would get someone to fix it the next morning but they never did and therefore I didn't sleep well.

I have to admit I was a little overwhelmed with the number of hotels available in Barcelona and being our first time visiting there we didn't have a good perception of the "lay of the land." We consulted with a travel agent while in Holland and they booked Barcelona Colonial Hotel. We were pleasantly surprise upon our arrival. The location could not have been better. If you enjoy walking there is a lot to see in the immediate area. We took advantage of the hop on-hop off tour buses which had a stop 2-3 short blocks away. The rooms were nicely appointed but small. We had the pleasure of staying on the 6th floor and had a large balcony where we could sit and have a glass of wine or lunch on our own. Being on a busy sreet in the center of town had a few drawback-sirens/traffic noise at night and people talking a little to loud. Overall we enjoyed our stay and have already recommended this hotel to friends of ours.
Downside-no wifi signal above the 4th floor :>( Had to sit in the lobby for connection.

Room Tip: Request rooms on 6th floor so you can have the balcony. Room #610 seemed more spacious then ours...

Really good location to explore Barcelona. Metro goes from couple hundred meters and is really the easiest way to go around. Hotel it self was clean and quiet enough, views were nothing to rave about. Would stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for a big room

We recently got off a cruise and stayed here for two nights. I was very disappointed. The lobby is lovely, but our room was dusty, dirty and never cleaned properly. Dirty used glasses were never cleaned or replaced. The bed was never made and we found the bedspread on the FLOOR of the closet. We had a room on the 4th floor and we could hear cars, conversations, ambulance and police all night. It was very hot that week and the management turned the air conditioning so low from the desk that it felt like 90 degrees in the room. We requested additional towels and were brought unfolded, wet towels that did not appear clean . It is a long walk down narrow questionable dark alleys to Las Ramblas, and the walk to the Hop On Hop Off bus took 20 minutes. They charge you for a safe and Internet. Refrigerator in the room did not work. This place was a big disappointment!

Stayed at this hotel for two nights in June 2012. On first impressions it was only a 5 min walk from Jaume metro station & looked smart from the outside. The reception area/lobby was clean, airy & well decorated. The reception staff were friendly & helpful throughout our stay. Having just read a recent review - yes you can hear & feel the subway below but not to the extreme that it would disturb you, we only felt it on a couple of occasions, plus what does it matter when your not visiting Barcelona to spend all day in your room?!
The hotel is in an excellent position for visiting the seafront/harbour which is a few mins walk (go right when leaving the hotel & walk straight on till you see the sea!).
Its about a 15 min walk to Las Ramblas (go left when leaving the hotel then left again passed Jaume metro entrance & keep walking straight on then you'll find Las Ramblas - you can't miss it!). The city sightseeing tour bus stops just after Jaume metro station which is excellent if you can't be bothered to walk back from Cataluna square!
Our room was a twin on the 3rd Floor with a lovely balcony which had views to 3 different sides. The room was spacious, airy & very clean with plenty of wardrobe space. The bathroom was a little on the cramped side but had an excellent shower to make up for lack of space.
Would 100% stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony for fabulous view of the city - though think these may be limited.
