“fantastic location and helpful staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 June 2013

The hotel is in good location in the gothic area next to the old cathedral. We arrived quite late and the staff were very helpful. Room cleaned daily to high standard. Breakfast seemed expensive at €19 when there are lots of cafes nearby. The staff were always willing to help.
The only drawback was there weren't enough chairs on the roof terrace at times when it was busy.
We would definitely stay there again.

We stayed 4 nights at this lovely hotel and enjoyed the very central location and the helpful and friendly staff. Our room was cleaned beautifully every day and although it faced inward and had no view to speak of it was quiet and big and being in the gothic quarter we were out almost all daylight hours. A short walk for shopping, visiting museums, the cathedral, good food, lovely plazas and streets, and La Rambla as well as close to public transport including the Aerobus. Internet connection was good and free, breakfast was a little pricey for what was on offer. Recommended if you especially want to be active shopping, eating, sightseeing and also want to be able to walk/stroll around.

We stayed at the Catalonia Catedral for 4 nights at the end of May. This is a very nice hotel in the most perfect location if you want to be in the heart of the Gothic quarter, on the doorstep of the Cathedral.
This was our first visit to Barcelona and the Catalonia Catedral was a great base for our stay. We didn't use the restaurant, bar or eat breakfast there (as there are so many wonderful restaurants and cafes to experience in the city), so can't comment on this. But the staff we did meet were always very helpful and friendly, especially on reception.
The rooms are nice with modern furnishings. We had a room looking into the internal courtyard, which meant it was very quiet at night (plus really effective black out curtains made for a good nights sleep). Obviously no view, but this was fine as we didn't spend much time in the room.

My only minor negative comment (and the reason for not scoring 'excellent') was we felt a slightly rushed housekeeping service, there wasn't a problem with cleanliness, but we did have to ask for milk and loo roll (both not replaced) and also an item of clothing went missing from my parents room, it was returned 2 days later (laundered!), turns out the maid had accidentally scooped up in bed sheets. But these are all very minor things and wouldn't prevent us from staying again.

Last couple of tips: if travelling in party of 4 it's cheaper to get a taxi from the airport than 4 tickets on the aerobus (if you do get the aerobus this stops v close in Placa de Catalunya). The area outside the hotel is mainly pedestrianised so cabs will stop near the cathedral / bank. If you don't know the area you might need a map to find the hotel, but its literally 2 mins from drop off.

We booked through 'easytobook.com' where we found the cheapest deal. Interestingly we couldn't find a way to book directly with the hotel, but we found a telephone number for them and called to check that all legit (as never used this company before). If you're worried about booking with an agency then the hotel will happily verify booking for you.

If you've had enough of tapas ;) there is a fantastic Vietnamese restaurant directly behind the hotel!

Hotel is in a great location in the heart of the gothic quarter, close to sightseeing, shops, and not far from some really nice restaurants. We booked a superior room and it really was very nice, with a separate living area with sofa and second TV and a lovely little sundeck leading out to the pool. We were travelling with a baby and the hotel provided a cot with lovely comfortable bedding, it was the nicest hotel cot we've ever been given when travelling. The furnishings are very modern, huge and comfortable bed, lovely bathroom with fabulous huge shower. The hotel is quite expensive and despite how nice the room was it didn't feel very good value, breakfast was not included and was extremely expensive at EUR 19 per person, and despite being a superior room in a 4* hotel there were no added comforts such as robes or slippers. They do offer water and chocolates at turn down and the hotel was very kind in helping us with milk for our baby when we arrived and the shops were shut. Also when we arrived early the hotel promised to call us if our room was ready early and indeed they did call us an hour before the usual check in time which was very helpful. We did order room service from the catalonia service which is outside the hotel and serves all their hotels - the packaging and quality of the food was very good but unfortunately having waited an hour (despite a 40 minute promise) the food was entirely cold. We did complain and when we checked out we mentioned this again and the front desk did kindly give us a discount. Good rooms, good location, but very expensive.

We stayed here for 4 nights with a 6 month old. The location is great and we were able to return to the hotel room frequently for rests without traversing the whole city. Only had to use the metro one day to get to Sagrada Familia. Would recommend for sure .

Overall we loved our stay in Barcelona and the hotel location contributed to that, however I would not say it was a 4 star experience.

Positives wise the service was very good. Mark on reception was particularly brilliant - always helping to arrange transport, dinner reservations and providing good recommendations.

On the negative side there were a number of little things that amounted to a below par experience. Housekeeping was poor, our
complimentary water was not in the room on arrival, coffee and tea were not replaced each day, my bath towel was taken away one day and not replaced. The hotel pool was also not heated which may sound like a whinge but for a 4 star hotel you would expect use of the pool to be a relaxing experience.

There was also not much storage space for 2 people on a 5 night stay, a number of ants were in the room (unsure how they got in) and the key card to get back into our terrace from the pool area did not work (despite flagging it up to be fixed within our first hour).

This sounds like a lot of negatives but they didn't spoil what was a great trip and the helpfulness of the front desk made up for this. However, a superior room with roof top terrace is not cheap for 5 nights and as such I would have expected much higher quality.

We had actually booked another hotel when we read the negative reviews on tripadvisor and managed to cancel in time to avoid charges. Following the reviews we then booked at the Catalonia Catedral and it was an excellent choice. The room and bathroom were spacious, clean and modernly decorated, staff most helpful and the location excellent - we were able to walk everywhere. We would definitely use the hotel again. Cannot comment on breakfast as we stepped out to a different coffee shop each morning.
