“Location, Location...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 June 2013

This is a trendy, modern Hotel in one of the best locations in Barcelona. I chose this purely basis the reviews on Tripadvisor and for the most part, they are pretty correct with a few small exceptions.

The location in Barri Gothic cant be better. 1 minute from the Cathedral, 5 mins from La Ramblas, 5 mins from Catalunya and a 10 min walk from El Born (great restaurants) means you cant get a better location. This is a pedestrian only area with only Taxis being allowed to ply here. The atmosphere cant be beat....
The Hotel is very modern and has new rooms with very modern decor. Very large, clean Bathrooms with strong showers. We were staying with our kids and booked 2 Superior rooms. One of these was very large with a separate sitting area and the other was a much smaller room. I trust it was a superior one. On the first day and night, we encountered AC issues with our kids room. I brought it to the notice of the reception that their AC was not cooling. This was at about 5 pm. Clearly, nobody bothered. When we got back at 11 pm, the room was boiling and their room got changed where the same issue carried on. Our kids slept with virtually no AC on the first night . The next morning is when things got better after i blew my fuse. I told them I was a senior Tripadvisor contributor (power to all Tripadvisor contributors) and would ensure that I posted what I had experienced. The kids room got changed and things were fine post that).

On the plus side - apart from the location, modern rooms, ambience, the staff were generally nice too, Free Wifi.
The misses - the Ac experience, the fact that we were supposed to get newspapers daily (we got them in one room on 2 days out of 4), there were supposed to be free cookies (dont want to make this a point but am mentioning as it is part of their package) but none provided on any of the days, the fact that there was no one to help with the luggae at 12 pm at night on day 1 are not things you expect to see in a Hotel ranked No. 19 in Barcelona.

This is a good Hotel, not a great one. I had a good stay, not a great one. Next time - a different Hotel.

nice hotel in absolutely great location. good comfortable bed, window that opened, and when closed blocked out the noise, curtain that blocked out the light, so great sleep! With air conditioning, great bathroom and shower, etc. Friendly reception, otherwise a bit soulless, but, as said, the location was what made this hotel. Didn't use the restaurant so can't comment, as there were tons of places around to eat and drink. Would definitely recommend it.

We were in Barcelona for 4 days in June. The hotel is a great location in the heart of the Gothic Quarter easy walking to the beach and great restaurants. The staff was very friendly and our rooms were nice and clean.

Really enjoyed our trip to Barcelona and part of the reason was this hotel. Location was so central. Love the pedestrian streets in the area.

Service was great (I must admit one of the front desk told me incorrect info a couple of times) but the rest trumped her. There was a misunderstanding with hotel booking and Maite was very patient in explaining. Alex was invaluable. We went to him for everything!

We took 2 cabs getting there. One knew its location, the other did not and stopped us at the Cathedral. Thankfully, we had the TripAdvisor Offline app which I highly recommend any traveler to download. No Wi-fi needed and it can point the direction of your destination.

The hotel is in good location in the gothic area next to the old cathedral. We arrived quite late and the staff were very helpful. Room cleaned daily to high standard. Breakfast seemed expensive at €19 when there are lots of cafes nearby. The staff were always willing to help.
The only drawback was there weren't enough chairs on the roof terrace at times when it was busy.
We would definitely stay there again.

We stayed 4 nights at this lovely hotel and enjoyed the very central location and the helpful and friendly staff. Our room was cleaned beautifully every day and although it faced inward and had no view to speak of it was quiet and big and being in the gothic quarter we were out almost all daylight hours. A short walk for shopping, visiting museums, the cathedral, good food, lovely plazas and streets, and La Rambla as well as close to public transport including the Aerobus. Internet connection was good and free, breakfast was a little pricey for what was on offer. Recommended if you especially want to be active shopping, eating, sightseeing and also want to be able to walk/stroll around.

We stayed at the Catalonia Catedral for 4 nights at the end of May. This is a very nice hotel in the most perfect location if you want to be in the heart of the Gothic quarter, on the doorstep of the Cathedral.
This was our first visit to Barcelona and the Catalonia Catedral was a great base for our stay. We didn't use the restaurant, bar or eat breakfast there (as there are so many wonderful restaurants and cafes to experience in the city), so can't comment on this. But the staff we did meet were always very helpful and friendly, especially on reception.
The rooms are nice with modern furnishings. We had a room looking into the internal courtyard, which meant it was very quiet at night (plus really effective black out curtains made for a good nights sleep). Obviously no view, but this was fine as we didn't spend much time in the room.

My only minor negative comment (and the reason for not scoring 'excellent') was we felt a slightly rushed housekeeping service, there wasn't a problem with cleanliness, but we did have to ask for milk and loo roll (both not replaced) and also an item of clothing went missing from my parents room, it was returned 2 days later (laundered!), turns out the maid had accidentally scooped up in bed sheets. But these are all very minor things and wouldn't prevent us from staying again.

Last couple of tips: if travelling in party of 4 it's cheaper to get a taxi from the airport than 4 tickets on the aerobus (if you do get the aerobus this stops v close in Placa de Catalunya). The area outside the hotel is mainly pedestrianised so cabs will stop near the cathedral / bank. If you don't know the area you might need a map to find the hotel, but its literally 2 mins from drop off.

We booked through 'easytobook.com' where we found the cheapest deal. Interestingly we couldn't find a way to book directly with the hotel, but we found a telephone number for them and called to check that all legit (as never used this company before). If you're worried about booking with an agency then the hotel will happily verify booking for you.

If you've had enough of tapas ;) there is a fantastic Vietnamese restaurant directly behind the hotel!
