“Great hosts!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 February 2013

We spent only a very short time at the beautiful house of Hetty and Henny, but we will be back for sure. They made us feel at home immediately and they even made some tapas for us, since we arrived very late. They are very talkative and their house is just more than lovely. The room we stayed in was huge! And the beds are very comfy. The next morning they showed us around and we were amazed. Especially the cellar and the little chapel, we liked. For us it is the perfect place to stay when we want to enjoy the country side as well as the beaches and Barcelona. Thank you for having us!

It was fun sharing a night with Hetty and Hendrik and they run a first class operation. Finding the place was a bit difficult as the road system has been modified, but they're working on improved directions, and one really needs to have a vehicle to get there. The breakfast was more than excellent. But the most fun was just spending time with the two of them. It's probably more suitable for the better weather seasons as many of its attractions are outside, but the interior of the house is beautifully done.

After reading the reviews of Mas Xipres, I decided this would be a great place to take a short break from the intensity of Barcelona. I was definitely right!
My wife and I stayed there for two nights last week, in the middle of a week-long anniversary celebration in Barcelona.
Hendrik and Hetty were amazing hosts, very helpful with any questions or requests.... The Masia (Farm) is very nice. We stayed in a separate "house", which was quite spacious, with a very comfortable bed, and wonderful, soft, warm linens (again, this was last week, so already quite cold). So comfortable in fact that we overslept one night and did not awake until 11 AM!
We had dinner there both nights, very, very good, and a very good value.
Highly recommended, and if we are ever in the area again, we will certainly try to stay here!

This place is a short 45-1hr drive from the Barcelona Airport. To enjoy the Spanish countryside I would recommend this place to anyone. Hetty & Hendrik were amazing hosts, which made our stay very special. We were the only 2 guests they had for one of our nights so we were upgraded at no extra cost to one of the suites. Our plane did not arrive until late in the day so they also asked if we would like dinner prepared when we arrive. If I can give only 1 comment about this place, it is eat the food! We had one of the best simple home cooked meals we have had in years. It was the best 19euro we spent on food.

This place was once a vineyard so as you can imagine, there are some picturesque locations throughout the property. From eating breakfast beside the pool to drinking Cava in the shade of our terrace, to eating dinners in the old wine cellar this place offered us some time to relax and enjoy the beauty of the Catalonia countryside.

Pros
Location – quiet and relaxing atmosphere
Location – trust the directions on the website not a GPS (note: you need a car to get to this place)
Room – clean and quite large
Bed – one of the best beds on our trip to Italy and Spain
Food – As mentioned before, eat here… Hetty is an amazing cook
Service – Hendrik is an exceptional host who is ready to do whatever he can to make your stay memorable
Internet – Wifi worked fine

I would recommend this place to anyone staying in the Barcelona area. We have memories that will be with us forever and if we were ever back in Barcelona, we would stay here again without question. Our only regret is we only stayed here for 2 nights… My wife and I wish it would have been a week based on our time at Mas Xipres.

We recently had our wedding of about 60 people at Mas Xipres and had an absolutely brilliant time. From the planning stage through to the goodbyes, Hendrik and Hetty were very kind and flexible providing a great host service. The venue itself is beautiful and provides a great natural setting in the countryside; perfect for photos. All the tapas and other dishes were very well prepared and our guests loved the food, as well as the drinks that were constantly topped up by the very helpful wait staff.

We also had a breakfast buffet the day following the wedding which was a huge hit with all our friends and family who dug into more great food and sunbathed by the pool.

All in all, a perfect venue with great hosts to match. Highly recommended!

Mas Xipres is an amazing slice of calm after the hustle and bustle of Barcelona. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone who wishes to take a couple of days to recharge. Hetty and Hendrik are wonderful hosts and excellent cooks, should you choose to eat at the masia for dinner (there is not much else around, so eating there is advisable unless you plan to be in Villafranca, Sitges or another larger centre for dinner). While it may first appear that there is not much around, you will have no difficulties at all filling your days - just ask Hetty or Hendrik if you need any ideas.

Just a couple of points of note:

1. Your GPS will NOT be able to locate Mas Xipres, and will struggle with a lot of the locations around Mas Xipres. A lot of the roads are either new, or are dirt roads that are not recognised. Make sure you plan your route well and bring an old fashioned paper map to cross check against your GPS. What we ultimately discovered is that if you set your GPS (we had a TomTom) to the town centre of Sant Pere Sacarerra, it will take you to El Pati Bakery & Pastisserie (which is well worth a visit itself). Turn right HERE down the dirt road; you will go past a school on the right and the driveway to Mas Xipres is on the left.

2. For rainbow travellers: Hetty and Hendrik lived in Sitges for 2 years and so we have no doubt that they are rainbow friendly. While I booked for 'my partner and I', we had twin beds made up. Unless your partner steals the duvet and you would like to sleep in twin beds, make sure you are clear that you would like to book a double.

Room Tip: The studio room is around the back next to the chapel so does not have anyone passing by if you woul...
