“Not a hostel”
Reviewed 18 January 2012

This is a smal company that owns a few flats around Barcelona. The place you go is one of those flats, where you get a room and access to a bathroom and a Kitchen. We were not very fortunate as we had a room which window faced the whole were the lift is, dark and with no ventilation at all (Barcelona in summer is hot and humid). The flat had other rooms with views to the street, but according to the owner we paid "only" 50 Euros, so we couldn´t have access to the street, therefore we had to be happy in the dark with no ventilation. Barcelona is a very expensive city, but we couldn´t afford to pay more for a double room. Even if there were no guests in the rest of the flat, the rooms with views to the street (and natural light) were locked with a small locker, and only with the keys the owner kept with himself, could give us access to the natural light. That was not very terrible, but this was: Every morning we were woken up by the screams of an old lady (she was also crying every morning), and we could hear that since 5 am through the hole that our window faced (the area where the lifts are). To reply her, another neighbour was yelling at her saying "¡deja de dar la vara!" (stop annoying!). So as you can imagine, our stay in the Barcelona residence was not what you expect from the beautiful Barcelona. Other than that, the location was not very bad and we could find a nice wok restaurant down the road and a nice bakery where to have breakfast.

Room Tip: Don´t think this is a backpackers or hostel, this is a room in a Barcelona flat

most awful windlowless room in basement (it looked like a storage room) next to the lift shaft. The bathroom was tiny, painted black, smelled, toilet had no seat. The 'cot' was single bed unsuitable for a baby. We asked to move - got double room, which was better, but overall, wouldn't never recommend this place.
I was trying to do my review on hostelsword and it shows that my booking was cancel so I couldn't do my review there.

The Barcelona Residence is actually a bunch of rooms in various apartments along a block in Barcelona, so it's operated slightly different than the average hostel. The location was EXTREMELY convenient, and although there isn't AC, we were there in August and it wasn't an issue. I would recommend this place to anyone, just make sure to note that it costs 25 Euros to do your wash - that was the only negative about this place. Other than that, very good spot to stay.
