Stayed here at the end of August and the place is beautiful. We had a room with access to a shared bathroom - no problem at all, never had to wait and it was always spotlessly clean. Staff were lovely, friendly and very helpful. Only tiny negative was the breakfast which could of done with more choice but then who really minds that when you're in a city with so many tapa's bars around!

Oh my, what a wonderful surprise to arrive at Casa de Marcelo in Barcelona after too many hours on a plane. Marcelo was lovely and the casa was cute, clean and very comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful.

I will be bringing my family back in the coming years as the location was fantastic!!!
Thanks for starting my vacation off right!

Room Tip: I loved room #4 the best! Quiet and spacious.

Like all the previous reviewers we very much enjoyed our stay at Casa de Marcelo and also highly recommend it for its cleanliness, location, and friendly and helpful host and staff. We stayed here for a week - in room 2 (1 night) and room 4 (6 nights). Neither room has an en suite so we had shared use of a bathroom and extra toilet, but our experience was that it was never a problem, albeit we seem to be earlier risers than most. Room 2 is very small and, in our view, wouldn't be suitable for a long stay as to be in your room means being on the bed! Room 4 on the other hand is very comfortable, looks out on the quieter back lane, has a couple of chairs to sit on, and is very roomy even with a king sized bed. There is a very small front balcony in the dining area which is nice for a drink and people watching, but no actual sitting room apart from the dining table. Wi Fi is provided, although coverage was patchy in our room, but there is no TV or DVD player for those who like to relax in that way after a hard days tourist activities. Continental breakfast - an array of teas, plus fresh coffee, fresh juice, a good selection of fresh fruit, lovely fresh-baked bread with sliced cheese or jam or Nutella spreads - is served at the dining table and was very nice, but might have been improved by the addition of some yoghurt or cereals or, on occasion, some sliced ham to complement the cheese. One issue for us was that breakfast is only available from 9.00 until 11.00, which is quite late by our standards. Apart from waiting around for breakfast before setting off on the days activities, if you have an early departure, either for travel or for a day trip out of Barcelona, say to Montserrat, you have to make your own arrangements to get breakfast elsewhere. It would be nice, in such a situation if at least some fruit could be made available to the travellers before 9.00. The Casa has an array of drinks available to purchase and also provides other services, such as washing and printing of documents, for a fee. Charges are not exhorbitant but are slightly more than might be expected in a B&B, and tea and (instant) coffee in our experience are usually provided free of charge. There is no in-house laundry to do your own washing but clothes washing and drying is available at €15 per load. That is only a little more than charged by the nearest laundromat ( Lavomatic, Consolation del Mar, 43-45) but for the budget-minded you can wash your own at the laundromat for €8. If these small issues are not going to bother you, you will have a very pleasant time at Casa de Marcelo.

We stayed at Casa de Marcelo for four nights and can honestly say that Marcelo went out of his way to make sure that our time there was comfortable and enjoyable. We were contacted before our arrival to make sure we knew where to go and he even spoke to our taxi driver to guide him in when we arrived. Marcelo is very protective of his guests and advised not to use the metro because as he says " it is the pickpockets office".
The rooms are very nicely decorated and we had the balcony room with ensuite bathroom both of which were spotlessly clean. The bed was a little hard for my old bones and the noise from the nearby bars a problem on the first night. We just made sure the window was tightly shut after that and the noise was not a problem. However, that could be a problem in hot weather as there is no air conditioning just a fan.
The breakfast in the sunny dining room was very good with fresh fruit, grainy toast and homemade jams and was a great opportunity to mix with the other guests. Nick always made sure that we had everything we needed and kept the coffee coming.
The location of Casa couldn't be better and is within walking distance of the beach, many restaurants and boutiques and other attractions such as the Picasso museum and La Rambla.
We took advantage of the Turistic bus which was a wonderful way of getting a feel for this large city. Marcelo organised our tickets for Segrada Familia so we didn't have to stand in line and wait for what can be hours.
Great location with the friendliest host and staff. Well done guys!

Room Tip: If you don't mind sharing a bathroom, perhaps one of the back rooms may be a better and quieter...

El Born is the perfect location to experience Barcelona with great restaurants, quaint bars and close to all the usual attractions and beach. Marcelo and his team ( Nick) are wonderful hosts, nothing was too much, it's your home away from home. We had the most amazing dining experience thanks to Marcelo recommendations; Cal Pep and Gravin just downstairs were excellent and the same for Kaiku ( for paella) which is on the ocean fifteen minutes walking from CasaMarcelo. Lovely job Marcelo, keep up the good work.

We had a lovely 1 night stay at Casa de Marcelo. The hosts were extremely friendly, the location is really excellent - right in the heart of the old town, and a short stroll to the sea front. The breakfast was also super - fresh fruits, lovely bread, juices, jams, cheese, in a room with a little balcony with the sun streaming in.

From start to finish Casa de Marcelo was an incredible experience! My boyfriend and I recently traveled to London, Paris, Barcelona, Morocco (Marrakesh), Madrid and Portugal (Lisbon). Before our arrival, Marcelo provided us with great instructions to get to house from the airport. Casa de Marcelo is in the perfect location, El Barrio del Born.It is within walking distance to the renfe "train station", the beach, park, zoo, great restaurants and Las Ramblas.

Marcelo was very welcoming upon our arrival. This was the first time we had traveled to a foreign country and had stayed outside of a Hotel. We wanted to have a local experience, a more "homey" feel in Barcelona. As novices to such an experience it can be a bit overwhelming. Marcelo treated us like we were family and made us comfortable about not only the way things work in the house but the area as well. He spend a lot of time with us and was very patient with all the questions we had.

Once we settled into our room, which was very comfortable and clean, we took more of his time to ask him questions about the area and advice on any recommendations he had on sights to see, places to eat, etc. He helped us put together a roadmap of sights to see within our short stay there. That was invalueable to us because we were able to accomplish so many things in a short period of time. In terms of food reccomendations he "hit the nail on the head" each and every time.

The staff was also as nice and friendly as Marcelo. We overslept one day because we had been traveling a lot the last few days and they kept breakfast out until we woke up which was past the time they served breakfast. They knew we were tired and didnt leave us hungry.... :) A gesture that small goes a long way and reiterates the "feel at home" feeling you get from Casa De Marcelo.

Overall, this was a great experience. We significatly appreciate the time people who visted the place took to write reviews on tripadvisor because that helped us make our decision to stay at Case De Marcelo. Hopefully our review will help others make a very wise choice when looking for a place to stay in Barcelona. Casa de Marcelo is the perfect place to stay!! We loved it and hope to visit again!

Room Tip: We choose a room (#3) which has its own bathroom. The main bathroom however was very clean.
