Owner description: Steel Donkeys are the first and only alternative bike rides of Barcelona. We're not about dry historic facts and the same daily routines that characterise other mass market bike tours. We're about getting on a bike and exploring the hidden corners of the city, like flea markets, futuristic skyscrapers, vintage shops, secret courtyards and local beaches... Our guides are young, knowledgeable locals who were either born in Barcelona or have lived here for several years. We like to talk about the real experience of life in the city, modern politics, culture and stories. But most of all we like to have a fun relaxing day out on a bike with our new friends... you! We ride with a maximum of 8 people, offering a more personal experience, greater mobility and sustainability (as this way we don't contribute to the congestion of mass tourism). When you ride with us you'll never feel like just another tourist on the treadmill. Hope to see you soon in Barcelona!

Our tour guide was Edu. He knew a lot and told us a lot of things we wouldn't have known or seen. For lunch he took us to a authentic Spanish food market and helped us order local dishes to try which was a nice touch.

The ride was really nice and went at a good pace that was suitable for everyone (even thoses who do not bike often).

We highly recommend this tour and was one of the highlights of our trip to Barcelona :)

Barcelona is bike-friendly, so it makes sense to explore it like this - especially when the tour takes you away from the crowded tourist spots. For example, I never expected former industrial district of Poble Nou to be worth seeing!
The bikes themselves are good and maneuverable, so the ride was a treat in itself.
Also, a bike tour is a great way to meet new people - the group is small, and the pace is comfortable, so you get a chance to chat to your companions.
And of course, thank you Maria for being a great guide!

My boyfriend and I have just returned from a short trip to Barcelona. Looking for an alternative tour for seeing the sights I stumbled on Steel Monkey Tours. I booked the tour before we left with Maria, our guide for the day made everything so easy. We missed out the main tourist areas and saw things that we perhaps wouldn't have done on our own! The bike ride it's self was a breeze and we covered a huge area. Maria was a great guide/host and gave us a few names places that were god to eat at, we followed her advice and she was right!

I would recommend this tour to fellow travellers who what to get out of the busy Rumblas and see a few alternative sights!

All in all a great time was had

Thanks Maria

Valeria took us down streets we wouldn't have found on our own and shared interesting facts not found in the guide books. She gave the tour her personal touch which made it special. We would recommend Steel Donkeys as a great way to see the city.

Bicycle touring is our favorite way to get around foreign cities. For our first trip to Barcelona in 48 years (the city has changed), we hired Milos Stipcic of Steel Donkey Bike Tours to lead us on 2 4-hour private adventures around the city on bike. It was fabulous. Milos is an architecture graduate student and an expert on the buildings in Barcelona, both ancient and modern. He is also a great teacher of Catalan history, customs, and the travails the region has with the rest of Spain. It was a real privilege having a private tour for both days: we moved at our own pace and did just what we had interest in. I can't imagine a more enjoyable way to see this amazing and sprawling city.
