“Poor service, misleading offer”
Reviewed 20 May 2012

Only location of the hostel was as it is stated in their offering. There are no rooms with bathrooms (even though they offer it), rooms are facing a super loud street. Very small rooms. 24/7 reception is a lie - there is one guy working and sleeping in the hostel and is expected to be awake 24h per day but when he is asleep at night there is noone to open the door for you and you might end up waiting hours to get into the hostel building at night, because there is a limited number of keys that you can get per room! also managing bookings was a complete mess and all the response was "happens sometimes" with no additional compensation for that. Additionally hostel was not too clean (i.e. towels in toilets were not changed during my 4-day stay and were disgusting). 3 showers and 2 toilets for 30 people - a lot of mess in the mornings and evenings. Only location, which is next to La Rambla, makes me give 2 not 1 points overall.

We were in the AWA for a university course with a group of 18 people. First we did not get what we booked and had to take a 6 and a 10 bed dorm room instead of 3x6 bed dorms after 3 hours of discussion instead of sightseeing.
Then we got only 2 house keys for the ten people. As we went back home in three groups, those without the key could not enter the hostel although it is promised to be a 24/7 reception. They even had to sleep at another place without being reimbursed. After complaining about that, we were assigned to be liars and that we rang at the wrong bell.
Additionally all the 18 of us had to get up at the same time and share 3 showers and two toilets which is by far not enough.
Then they put us on the guestlist of the club "Soutton". When we arrived there and said our name and the hostel, the bodyguards told us that there is no such promotor and that we are not on the guestlist.
Over all, it was a very bad stay, and especially the nightguard "Gold" was not reliable and still sleeping at 10 in the morning when some of us wanted to check out one hour early. I strongly recommend to look for something else!

Went here last week with my spouse. We stayed for 3 nights and slept one. The "host" was playing weird ambient music through the night really loud, and drunken people were screaming etc. In general, this is a hostel for very young people, who do not spend time at the hostel. It's basiclly a very "hippie" hostel. The lock on the door was similar to those that little girls use on their diaries, so it was absolutely not safe to leave anything to the room. I give this place two "stars" due to the great location, and the fact that the host was very nice and friendly. As a city Barcelona is quite similar to other big cities in Europe, but cheap and enjoyable. The hostel is worth a visit if you're staying for a couple of nights and do not wish to pay extra for private bathroom etc. Oh wait, the lock in the only shower room was broken, so you needed to be when washing up...

It's a cheap option for people staying in dorms. You are more like a guest in someone's house here than in a hostel. It's a small space so you will interact with other travelers and staff. It was warm in the spring so it probably wouldn't be best to stay in the summer. It's a really fantastic location, walking distance from a lot of sights. There is no sign for the hostel but you can ring bell 2.2 at its address to get into it. You should receive more info in an email after booking. There is also a 20 euro key deposit so make sure you have this on hand. There's also free internet.

CONS: Lack of privacy, no locks on dorms, no lockers, tiny kitchen, only 2 bathrooms (only one decent shower but hot water is constant), really warm, a bit dirty (but not too bad if you're not picky), small dorms

I would not recommend getting a private room here - you don't have privacy. Try Ona Barcelona (very nearby) for a cheap private dorm.

Room Tip: Don't get a private dorm - it's small and you don't get too much privacy

My friend and I stayed in a private room here last year and were pretty shocked, the large double room with balcony that we booked at the living room hostel turned out to be a cramped skanky room on this hostel, right next to the kitchen and the air conditioning consisted of a window looking out onto a gap between buildings with sewerage pipes running through, smelt great on a hot day! The doors on the room would barely lock and when they did u could still get in if u wanted to, to add to this the front door was never locked. Pretty terrible all round!

Close to metro and rail line. Good & friendly staff. Room a bit dated. But sufficient if you just need a place to sleep... Barcelona has so much to offer and see

We stayed in the AWA happy hostel in Barcelona (affiliated with the AWA Barcelona central hostel). We booked a private room for 60 €. The room was next to kitchen (noisy). The room was really small and you felt claustrophobic. No value for money (in case of the private room)
