My wife and I stayed in the Gothic Quarter last week and wanted to make the most of our short two days there by taking a guided tour. After our great experience at the Dali museum in Figueres with guiding.es we decided to use them for our tour of the Gothic Quarter as well. We were incredibly satisfied with our decision.
To start with the tour consisted of the two of us and our guide, a 12 year resident of Barcelona who came to Spain from Bulgaria to study tourism. It was apparent that she was in love with the city and had dedicated herself to learning all there was to know about the city, the culture and history of Barcelona. Half of the tour took us to areas of the Gothic Quarter that the other massive group tours saw (places where we ran into groups of 25 or more -- groups so large that headsets were required to hear the guide). The other half of the tour was far more personal sharing century old specialty shops, taking us places to show us answers to questions we asked and showing us historic restaurants and businesses.
The gothic quarter feels large but it isn't. It seems like it should be a place that can be self-explored. However, after doing that on our first day in Barcelona and then taking the guiding.es tour on the second day we realized exactly how dense the history of the small ancient city is. Only with a guide as passionate and knowledgable as ours were we able to truly understand the history of such an important part of Catalan history.
I highly recommend the Gothic Quarter in Barcelona. I also feel that if you are going to visit it and want to truly understand the place you have to use guiding.es for your tour. They are excellent at what they do and we feel incredibly fortunate to have been able to spend a few hours with our guide.
