Owner description: The Museu Picasso in Barcelona is a key reference for understanding the formative years of Pablo Picasso. The genius of the young artist is revealed through the 4,251 works that make up the permanent collection. Furthermore, the Museu Picasso, opened in 1963, also reveals his deep relationship with Barcelona: an intimate, solid relationship that was shaped in his adolescence and youth, and continued until his death. The Museum is very rich in regard to work from the formative years in the life of the artist; it is practically exhaustive up to the Blue Period. The Museum also houses an important representation of works from 1917, and the series Las Meninas (1957) as well as a comprehensive print collection.

They only have some old scetches, nothing of the real work. You must be a real fan to be able to enjoy this museum. I practically ran out.

The Picasso Museum has a nice collection of Picasso's early works. Be sure to rent the headphones. Without them we wouldn't have known nearly as much about the exhibits.

Prior to arrival I wasn't certain whether I would visit this museum. First, the rest of my family is lukewarm, at best, about Picasso's work. Second, I thought it would be very small. Third, was it better than other attractions we could see? How did we end up going? We were nearby, it was raining and at that particular time it happened to be free. It was kismet.

In the end, I was glad we went. They had a very nice collection of his early works and of his beginnings as an artist and his development. We did not have time to see everything as the collection was far bigger than anticipated. It had a very representative sampling of the different genres of his work and quite a few of the pieces were very good. They even had some of his ceramic work, which you don't see everywhere. The building was a fine old one. It enhances the experience when the building, itself, is a work of art.

Is this a must see? Yes, if you are a Picasso lover. No, if not, but interestingly, even the anti-Picasso members of my family enjoyed it. So, if you have the time and nothing else you want to see more, why not?

The Museu Picasso, on Carrer Montcada, occupies 5 medieval stone mansions with an incredible display of artwork - but the collection concentrates on Picasso's formative years & specific transitions, such as his Blue period.

Few places to sit and admire the few larger paintings.

This Museum is not for everyone. Those who have more than a passing interest in art will find it fascinating. Don't expect to find a comprehensive display of all of Picasso's works. Rather come to this Museum to see the incredible, raw talent right from the beginning, right out of the box. Here is an artist that shows genius even as a teenager. Enjoy.
