Owner description: The Basilica of the Sagrada Familia is a monumental church devoted to the Holy Family: Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Construction began in 1882, based on plans drawn up by the architect Francisco de Paula del Villar, and Antoni Gaudi was commissioned to continue the project in 1883. The Temple has always been an expiatory church, built only from donations. As Gaudi said: "The Expiatory Church of the Sagrada Familia is made by the people and is mirrored in them. It is a work that is in the hands of God and the will of the people." In 2010, Pope Benedict XVI consecrated the site as a minor basilica.

“Breathtaking”
Reviewed 29 April 2012

Number one Barcelona site to see on any trip, however short it is. It literally takes your breath away, and well worth the 20 minute queue around the block!

“In one word, "Wow"!”
Reviewed 29 April 2012

In one word, "Wow"! Anotoni Gaudi was an amazing architect with this his most extraordinary opus. This is a organic original that is not finished, but is actively sitll being built upon. The cathedral is a beautiful, one of a kind masterpiece. A must see for anyone traveling to Bacelona. Our family of four took a walking half-day, whirlwind tour that ended at this site. Even our two teenaged boys thoroughly enjoyed it. Make sure to see the museum below the cathedral. It contains a large scale model of the project. The model is also still being actively built. We can't wait to go back to see the finished church.
