Owner description: The Basilica of the Sagrada Familia is a monumental church devoted to the Holy Family: Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Construction began in 1882, based on plans drawn up by the architect Francisco de Paula del Villar, and Antoni Gaudi was commissioned to continue the project in 1883. The Temple has always been an expiatory church, built only from donations. As Gaudi said: "The Expiatory Church of the Sagrada Familia is made by the people and is mirrored in them. It is a work that is in the hands of God and the will of the people." In 2010, Pope Benedict XVI consecrated the site as a minor basilica

We pre-booked a guided tour of Sagrada Familia (I would certainly recommend that you book all types of tickets in advance). Irina was our guide and she was very good. The tour lasted around 45 minutes and we saw all the main sights of the church. Well worth the trip

You can take the metro right to the door. Up close it is stunning and incredible the detail in the structure. Didn’t go inside as there is massive construction going on.

The grandness of la sagrada familia will blow your mind, some parts of it look like they grew out of the ground! You must do casa Mila or the gaudi museum before though in order to get an insight on gaudi, to be able to really appreciate his work!

If you come to Barcelona, you simply must see the Sagrada de Familia, there is nothing else like it in the whole world. Designed by Gaudi in the modernism style, it integrates elements of nature and man in unique expression. The sheer size and complexity will astound you. The interior feels like an immense, sheltering forest. You must also go up in the tower tour, we did the Nativity facade. Bring your most well-rested pair of legs that you can! This requires a lot of walking and standing (staring in awe), and the towers have elevators up but you must walk down through tight circular stone stairways. You are up high but you feel safely enclosed in the stone walls so it wasn't frightening. I saw one young girl who was afraid when she first got up, but ended up coming down just fine. The views of the city as well as the structure you are climbing in are worth it.
