As you can see from the photos, this hotel is luxurious and located right on the sea. We had a beautiful view of a marina and the Mediterranean Sea from our 11th floor room. The decor is brown and silver, luxe modern. The fresh flowers throughout the public areas are all in white and add a lot of glamor. As one of Marriott's best hotels, all of this was expected. What I didn't expect was the personal attention and genuine friendliness of all the staff. From the reception desk to the concierge to the doorman, everyone was lovely. English is spoken very well all over the hotel, which was good for us because our Spanish is minimal. Even better, everyone seemed happy to chat and ask about our plans and our trip, etc. Very welcoming staff.
We did have a few issues with our room. The safe would not unlock, the sink drain wouldn't stay open, and the shower faucet came right off in my hand. But with one phone call, the staff responded IMMEDIATELY, with great courtesy. A manager was at our door in minutes. He wanted to give us a new room, since we'd just gotten there, but the hotel was 100% booked. He was very apologetic and stayed while housekeeping and maintenance worked on the problems. It is hard to be upset when all the staff are sincerely and quickly trying to set the room to rights. We weren't inconvenienced more than half an hour or so, but the manager still sent champagne and an apology note to us. Hotel Arts gets an A+ for handling a problem so quickly and nicely.
There is a casino on site, and being a hotel guest gets you in without a cover charge. We didn't stay long, though, because the casino lacks ambiance. It's very plain with industrial carpeting and a basic bar. Still, if gambling is your thing, this would be convenient.
We used the metro and the bus system to visit La Sagrada Familia and Las Ramblas. The concierge provided the metro maps, and it was all very simple to use, even for non-Spanish speakers like us. The bus stops right outside the hotel, and the metro station is maybe two blocks away from the hotel. Inexpensive and convenient. We took a taxi to the cruise terminal, and the cost was low. (It was just a week ago, but I've already forgotten how much--maybe 20 Euros.)
In short, this is a highly-rated luxury hotel, and it deserves its good reputation. The views of the sea are spectacular, the ease of transportation around the city is great, but the best part of all are the friendly and helpful people who work here.
