“very nice hotel”
Reviewed 10 May 2012

stayed here before a cruise while spending several days in Barcelona. The hotel is very nice. We arrived on early after an overnight flight and our rooms were ready. The staff is very professional, friendly and helpful. Our room rate included breakfast each day which was one of the nicest buffets I have ever seen with pretty much anything you would want - fresh fruits, breakfast meats, omelets made to order and pastries. On our last morning there we were able to get a late checkout which enabled us to spend some extra time in the city before embarkation time for our cruise. My only complaint was the 4E per cup for the in-room nesspresso machine. If I had not read a prior review for this hotel I would have not know about the charge - seems to me that with the price we paid for the rooms that it would have been complimentary. The location, while not centrally close to the major city sights is just a short walk to the metro which is very easy to use. The view form the room was very nice - overlooking the marina and the sea.

First time in Barcelona. So i was a little confused as to where to stay initially - near the beach/marina/boardwalk or nearer centre and closer to cathedrals, shopping, Ramblas etc.
If you chose beach. Then only choice is this or The W if u can afford.
Great service: Attentive, special gift for celebration and great concierge service.
Rooms: pretty decent. Funny how Bang and Olufsen now looks a little dated. Decent bathrooms and great shower.
Reception: upstairs on 1st floor (bag drop on ground) was really busy. Queues of people. Very popular with (well heeled) stag weekends - not a big issue, but worth mentioning.
Good food/breakfast.

Top tip: Expeess checkout - you must use it if you plan to check out near midday.

Stayed here 5/1-5/2 after our cruise. We had an ocean view club level room. I can not say enough good things about this hotel and the level of service we received. We got in before 11:00 am and were able to check into our room early. The view from our room was stunning, overlooking the marina and ocean. The room amenities of Acqua di Parma, was a nice treat.

With club level access, we had our in room coffee (Nespresso) included as well as wireless internet. The food / drinks were fresh and tasty and the staff were pleasant and helpful everytime we visited.

We did the American Express plan, so had a continental breakfast included each day. The buffet they laid out had a lot of variety. In addition w/the AE plan, we also received a $100 hotel credit which we used for spa services. The spa here was very nice. I was a little hesitant at first reserving this hotel, but am so happy we did. The location was wonderful, the staff helpful and the accomodations were first class all the way.

Yes, it was expensive, but I really do feel we got alot of value for our money.

Room Tip: If possible, reserve a room high up and w/ocean view. In addition, club level access is a great val...

As you can see from the photos, this hotel is luxurious and located right on the sea. We had a beautiful view of a marina and the Mediterranean Sea from our 11th floor room. The decor is brown and silver, luxe modern. The fresh flowers throughout the public areas are all in white and add a lot of glamor. As one of Marriott's best hotels, all of this was expected. What I didn't expect was the personal attention and genuine friendliness of all the staff. From the reception desk to the concierge to the doorman, everyone was lovely. English is spoken very well all over the hotel, which was good for us because our Spanish is minimal. Even better, everyone seemed happy to chat and ask about our plans and our trip, etc. Very welcoming staff.

We did have a few issues with our room. The safe would not unlock, the sink drain wouldn't stay open, and the shower faucet came right off in my hand. But with one phone call, the staff responded IMMEDIATELY, with great courtesy. A manager was at our door in minutes. He wanted to give us a new room, since we'd just gotten there, but the hotel was 100% booked. He was very apologetic and stayed while housekeeping and maintenance worked on the problems. It is hard to be upset when all the staff are sincerely and quickly trying to set the room to rights. We weren't inconvenienced more than half an hour or so, but the manager still sent champagne and an apology note to us. Hotel Arts gets an A+ for handling a problem so quickly and nicely.

There is a casino on site, and being a hotel guest gets you in without a cover charge. We didn't stay long, though, because the casino lacks ambiance. It's very plain with industrial carpeting and a basic bar. Still, if gambling is your thing, this would be convenient.

We used the metro and the bus system to visit La Sagrada Familia and Las Ramblas. The concierge provided the metro maps, and it was all very simple to use, even for non-Spanish speakers like us. The bus stops right outside the hotel, and the metro station is maybe two blocks away from the hotel. Inexpensive and convenient. We took a taxi to the cruise terminal, and the cost was low. (It was just a week ago, but I've already forgotten how much--maybe 20 Euros.)

In short, this is a highly-rated luxury hotel, and it deserves its good reputation. The views of the sea are spectacular, the ease of transportation around the city is great, but the best part of all are the friendly and helpful people who work here.

I stayed here for two nights at a business event. This is a great hotel with wonderful staff in a great location. But, and it is a big but, any extras are very expensive. I did wonder whether to write a review as the sort of people that would stay in this luxury hotel would not be the sort that worriy about the price. Nor would they write in TripAdvisor I thought. But I see many reviews so let me add my comments.

There are many positives, as mentioned by other reviewers. What lets the show down, in my opinion:
- there is a nice Nespresso coffee machine in the room but you pay four euros for each capsule. In many hotel stays around the world, rooms with coffee makers have always included at least two coffees per day in the room rate
- another couple ordered two mojito drinks at the poolside and were surprised to be charged forty euros
- a friend used the hotel sauna and was charged forty euros
- the outdoor pool in unheaed. Ok for summer but very chilly in May

So if you don't think about money, this really is a wonderful hotel. If you do watch your pennies, then be prepared for a big extras bill.

Stayed here June/July 2011 for 3 nights. The location is great, overlooking the port and beach. The food served within the complex is also very good. We ate in the bar on the top floor as we were holding an event - the views were brilliant. The staff were a mixture of Catalan, Swiss, Brazilian, Italian - all very polite. My room was 13th floor - huge - and absolutely fantastic. Clientele - American, rich Europeans and corporate parties. Overall - fantastic

I have stayed here a number of times over a 3 year period. The views are incredible and the staff are both inviting and helpful.
The bar and restaurant provides a great list of freshly made cocktails, juices and amazing food. In the summer, the terrace is great for a dip in the pool or to watch the sunrise/set with a glass in hand.
A bit pricey at times, it is a great way to get away from reality for a while.
