We stayed at Hotel Colon August 8-11, 2014 before boarding a cruise. We absolutely loved the hotel as it provided all the comforts we needed along with a perfect location. This is def a classic/vintage hotel so if you're looking for all new, American style hotels, look elsewhere.

We got a nice corner room that did not face the Cathedral. The streets were quiet and the only noise I heard were delivery trucks at times. It didn't bother me one bit. We had two small balconies that were lovely. The room was big and clean. We had three people so two beds and a pull-out sofa bed. The beds were not the greatest but we were tired and had no problem sleeping. My mom used the sofa bed and she had a hard time with that however when she mentioned it to the front desk they immediately sent up a new bed and that was much better. The bathroom was spacious with a large tub. All very clean.

Location can't be beat. Located across from the Barcelona cathedral it is a lovely plaza and convenient to the Gothic Quarter, Ramblas and Plaza Catalunya. There is also a "TrixiCab" stop right next to the hotel and we did a 30-minute tour with them. Super fun and cheap. There is also a stop in the corner for the double-deck tour bus. It's the red-line and you can buy your tickets at the front desk (saves you $2)

There is a Starbucks close by but do yourself a favor and try some of the Bars across the hotel (next to Cathedral). I wish I had the name of the place but it was recommended to us by one of the doormen and it was fantastic. We enjoyed our breakfast there every morning - try their patatas and their "pan con tomate".

The front desk staff is really nice and helpful. They may seem a little grumpy but they are truly sweet and really nice. The doormen are awesome and so helpful too. I loved the staff overall. The only place I felt a little weird was in the restaurant. We dined there for dinner once. It's really good but a bit pricey. Service was efficient but lacked attention to detail and friendly customer service.

Also, the hotel provides free Wi-Fi which was wonderful and worked perfectly. The cab from the airport to the hotel cost us 17 Euro which I thought was great. I had originally booked a private car through the hotel but the company had a mix-up with the times and therefore we just took a cab (which btw, I don't blame the hotel for this at all ... once they realized I wasn't crazy, they apologized profusely). The cab from the hotel to the port cost us 20 Euro, cab from Hotel to Sagrada Familia cost us 10 Euro.

I will def return to Hotel Colon and will be sure to recommend it to any friends going to Barcelona.

We were originally booked into the Colon's sister hotel but upgraded to the Colon and upgraded to a room on the 2nd floor (209) overlooking the Cathedral. Room was clean, shower good however there is a terrible repetitive noise as the water drains away, awkward how they have positioned the toilet and bidet which means you are unable to sit straight onto the toilet. Free wifi. Barcelona never sleeps and the square outside is busy all the time but closing the balcony door blocks that out, but I would recommend embracing this as it is a great people walking spot.

The view and location with balcony opening up to the cathedral was certainly what made this hotel. Staff were very helpful.

The location of the hotel is really good, close to most of the turistic points in Barcelona. Apart from that, the service in the hotel is really slow. I got disappointed because I made a mistake in the reservation, I was traveling with my wife and I made a reservation for a single room as I got confused making the reservation...It was my fault but when I spoke with the hotel to change the room or maybe to get an extra bed they did not react at all. The check in was at 14.00 and they didn´t gave us the room until 17.00. In other hotels when they don´t have the room they invite you to some drinks while you wait but is not what they did.

The single room is enough for one but not for TWO! They charged a supplement of 45€ per day for my wife and we where really uncomfortable in that bed, they only gave us one more towel and some shampoo. We thought the hotel will give us another room as they told us in the check in but they didn´t. We stayed for 5 days

My son bought us a bottle of cava and he ordered for us when we arrived at the room but the bar closes at 11pm so the bottle was already in the room when we arrived. I expect some strawberries with chocolate or something else as they knew it was my wife birthday, but we just got the bottle my son bought... in that small room. We enjoyed but it could have been better....

To sum up, I expected more from this hotel....

I won´t come back again.

Dear guest:

We are terribly sorry about the incident during your stay at the Hotel Colón.

We´d like to let you know that we have received your suggestions. On the matter of pricing, as this is a very touristic area, hotels prices are determined by the availability.

We are very thankful you chose the Hotel Colón for your stay in Barcelona and we sincerely hope to have the chance, in the near future, to show you our improvements.

Please don´t hesitate to contact us for your next visit, and we´ll make sure to arrange any especial request.

Kind regards,

Great central location. Hotel dated. Forget eating here...we went to Starbucks for breakfast across the street. We stayed 2 nights after our Princess Cruise to the Mediterranean. My daughter and grandson had a room on the 2nd floor that truly stunk (was never fixed nor were they given the option to change rooms) - our room on the 5th floor had a small but nice balcony. There is a top floor balcony with a nice view and chairs with a wading pool for toddlers. Rooms/bath were clean. Spa looked nice, but we didn't use.

We stayed at this hotel last week for three days, August 9, 10, 11 - 2014. We picked this hotel because the internet showed they had a new pool. I asked where the pool was when I got there. I was told they don't have a pool. We saw the pool on the internet, so we decided to go exploring. One elevator had a 7th floor button but would not take us there. The other elevator only had up to 6th floor. Not sure how they can show a pool, others can write a review on the pool....yet we were told there is no pool. Big disappointment to our Spain vacation.

Dear guest,

First of all, thank you for having chosen the Hotel Colón for your recent stay in Barcelona.

We are sorry to learn that your stay with us did not satisfy all of your expectations. Our hotel haven't got a pool; what you find is the particular spa pool where you can relax with excellent views of the Cathedral, but not swimming or playing sports.

Again, we deeply regret not having met all your expectations this time but hope you will afford us a second chance to make amends.

Sincerely,
Hotel Colón.

Very clean hotel in a great central location. Our room was on the third floor overlooking the Cathedral Plaza- yet was very quiet when we closed the windows. This is not a "W" or Ritz C. This is an authentic hotel in a very old building. If you want "new" and American- you should be at one of the previously mentioned hotels. The breakfast buffet was incredible at the hotel, but the price was not included in the room rate.

We have visited Barcelona three times, this is the first time we stayed at the Colon Hotel and I would recommend it. Obviously the location on the square right in front of the Cathedral is excellent. It is also conveniently located to the Jaume 1 Metro, shopping, the Gothic District, great restaurants, etc. It offers a very walkable location to the desirable tourist locations throughout Barcelona. Our room was very comfortable and quite spacious. Free wifi, great air conditioning, nice beds, quiet rooms, bath tub and nice storage. We had a "side street" view and not a view of the Cathedral. That was fine for us as we were not in our room very much, but if you would prefer, request an upper room facing the Cathedral. We paid about 220 Euros per night for 3 people (they provided us with an extremely comfortable roll-away) and this included breakfast. The breakfast buffet was of great quality and included salmon, iberico ham, freshly squeezed OJ, fruits, eggs, etc. One of the best parts of this hotel is their 7th floor rooftop which overlooks the square and Cathedral and offers a 360 degree view of Barcelona. You can see all the way to the ocean. It is absolutely beautiful and quite relaxing to sit at one of the rooftop tables and enjoy a cava! You will also find a large "sitting pool", steam shower, sauna and showers on the 7th floor. So if you stay at this hotel, don't forget to visit the 7th floor for an amazing view of Barcelona!!

Room Tip: Higher floor facing Cathedral if you would like a good view.
