“A hostel? really?”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 March 2013

I spent a weekend after the MWC in Barcelona and loved this place. Really well located, 2 streets away from the train to the airport.
The "hostel" is located in the first floor of a normal building. Decoration is simple but elegant.
I was given room 5 which has a balcon. The bathroom is nearly the same size as the room and it faces the terrace of the building (but has curtains for privacy) and the street. I found it was quite cold, but very nice as well.
The room does not have a table to work, but you can use several outside the room, where they also offer free tea/ coffee/ water and a bit of fruit.
It did not have wardrobes either but you can use some sort of hangers and also some typical IKEA Expedit bookshelves that you can use to keep your things in order.
Breakfast in the cafeteria downstairs (not belonging to them) was really nice.
Internet connection was not great so had to look for some alternative place to work... ended up enjoying the city instead!

My friend and I came to this hostel because we had friends who lived less than a block away, but we were glad to have found this place! It's in a wonderful location, walking distance to everything you need to see in Barcelona. The staff is very helpful, and the place itself is very charming.

We looked at the pictures and were deceived. The rooms are TINY and bathrooms VERY COMPACT. Thin walls ensured that we could hear our neighbours flushing and the door bell ringing all night long. Extremely noisy. Toilet did not have a proper flush and the pot was shaky. Small cockroaches in the bathroom.

To make matters worse, the manager - Alex - was rude and not at all accommodating. At the time of booking he said that he has 'upgraded' us to a superior room, but when we reached, he said all the rooms are the same, despite the fact that other slightly better rooms were available. Due to lack of proper flush facility, the toilet cistern/macerator started overflowing and water poured into our bedroom under our bed. Instead of apologising, Alex got mad at us!! He was aggressive and rude, and asked us to checkout and look for another place, despite the fact that it was their bathroom that was faulty. No ventilation or window in the bathroom and we were expected to keep dirty toilet paper in the basket, as the toilet does not have a proper flush!!

Not even basic facilities like drinking water or tea/coffee. One tattered old kettle sits with dusty cups. Alex insisted I drink water from the bathroom, which was cloudy. After a flight, bus ride, walking to the place, you at least expect water to be available, especially when you are paying 100 Euros a night (this was the discounted rate!). There are fancy pictures of breakfast, but the place does not provide any breakfast.

We could not sleep properly on a single night due to noise and ended up wasting our precious holiday dealing with hostal issues.

Alex's other colleagues were more helpful and tried to help. But overall, certainly avoid!

Room Tip: And if you land up there, certainly avoid rooms 1 and 2. Oh, and room 9 has no daylight!

The guest´s comment does not reflect the actual facts, giving only his side of the story. His attitude once he arrived to our facility was one of dislike and disapproval, demanding services one would expect from a 4 or 5 star hotel, to the point that he was shown various rooms for him to choose. Management offered him to cancel his confirmed reservation without any charge in order for him to search something nearby that would please his demands, he then decided to stay for 3 nights and on the second night he demanded an upgrade at no cost which we were not able to offer. Finally on the last night his toilet overflowed, when we asked if he had thrown any items in it (in order for us to fix it) he reacted in a very inappropriate way which surprised our staff since we always approach our guest in a very pleasant way. When the maintenance clerk checked the toilet he found items nobody would ever dispose in a toilet, when we informed the client of this information he started cursing and calling our staff names. We could have charged the guests for this extra service required on the toilet due to his actions but we decided not to. We would also like to add that the guest never mentioned cockroaches while he was here which really makes us second guess the veracity of this remark. Finally we would like to state that the mistake he made when he decided to book a property that is not qualified to offer 5 star amenities is causing very bad publicity on our excellent reputation on you website (that we have earned through hard work) with a damaging and bad intended comment. We would like to recommend also that in the future if this individual would like to get 4 or 5 star service then he should book a property with the correct qualifications.

Location of the place is great. Casa Batlo was a 5 minute walk away. Hospitality of the front desk was restricted to a 'hello' and a sufficient friendly nod. Cleanliness of the place was also great. Positives end there though.

We had a street facing room and the noise throughout the night made sleeping really hard. We complained about it in the morning and were advised to shut all the shutters, all three shutters, that either indicates a safety concern or their awareness of the noise. Either way the shutters were closed the following night and did little to stifle the street noise. It's a shame as this soured our stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that does not face the street.

The beauty of the spaces, the friendliness of the staff, the location and the quietness! Near La Pedrera and other amazing sites! Great places to eat nearby (e.g. 5 Jotas)! The neighbourhood is very quiet and family-like. Nice little cafés with good prices and a leisurely pace which is quite relaxing after the buzz of the city's most central spaces (which, by the way, are only 2 streets away ;o)) If I ever return to Barcelona ( and I will!), I'll certainly stay here!

The hotel is very well located, 5 minutes from passagei gracia, 15 minutes from placa catalunya. The persons at the desk were very friendly and helpful... The place is clean and wel taken care of. There is a very beautiful terrasse which we didn t have the chance to enjoy because of the weather. I believe it is a great place where to have your breakfast. Common facilities can be used to eat there for those who need to drink coffee before going out in the moring.
I am supposed to return to Barcelona soon and will definitively try to book a room there.

Room Tip: Our room was a little noisy because of street noises, especially traffik noises in the morning. For...

this little gem is well located in the eixample
district of Barcelona, just around the corner from Gaudi's Casa Batllo. The hotel is small and intimate within a lovely building with a gorgeous facade. Our room was very comfortable and clean, and had a window facing onto the roof terrace. We found the staff to be wonderful, friendly and extremely helpful, they provided great recommendations on how best to make the most of our visit with places to see and at which to eat, nothing like some local knowledge!
