“Adequate for Short Stay on Budget”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 August 2012

I rented a two bedroom / two bath apartment from Aug 7 to Aug 15 2012. I had asked for a quiet apartment and was given unit 831 (3rd floor, Apt 1 which faces away from the street to an inner courtyard, compared to Apts 2 and 3 which are are facing the street, and Apt 4, which is also facing the back). With the rear apartments (which are a bit smaller than the front apartments), there is no noise from the street.

I’ll start with the good things:
1. The location of the apartment is very nice, about five large blocks away from Plaza Catalunya and parallel to La Rambla Catalunya (where there are many nice restaurants on the pedestrian walkway). There are a couple small markets nearby and two larger markets about 10 minutes walk each way.
2. There is a taxi stand in front of the building, which was very convenient.
3. The dining area (really just part of the living room) has a nice size rectangular table good for use as a desk.
4. The kitchen is large (for Europe) and is furnished with a washer/dryer and good size refrigerator, plus microwave, range top, oven, and dishwasher.

Now, the bad things:
1. The internet is very slow. You cannot watch even a small low-resolution video, such as on facebook or CNN. You cannot make an IP phone call. All you can do is basic email and basic web page loading. And you have to reconnect with the user name and password every time your computer or phone goes to sleep. It became quite annoying.
2. The elevator is extremely small and old, requiring multiple trips one bag at a time to get luggage into the apartment. It requires manually opening an exterior metal grid door and a pair of old wooden interior doors. And the elevator is not to the street level. There are many steps between the front door and the elevator. At times, people do not shut both sets of doors to the elevator, which makes it unusable, and you have to walk up and down the stairs.
3. Services are essentially non-existent. After five days, they provide you new towels and do a very superficial cleaning of the bathroom (almost a “why bother cleaning”). They did not change the bed sheets when they changed the towels.
4. The actual size of the apartment is much smaller than the pictures make it appear to be.
5. The apartment is relatively new, but is looking a bit worn and is due for a refurbishment of paint, flooring, and furniture.
6. The quality of the air inside the apartment is poor. The air conditioning cools just fine, but the air itself is stale and dry. (Our noses felt constantly in need of cleaning.) Furthermore, there is a vent in the kitchen that must be connected to other apartments and the smell of smoke was present at all times. Luckily, there is a door to the kitchen to keep the smell from coming into the other rooms.
7. Although there was no noise from the outside, noises could be heard coming from another apartments, including a child running in the apartment above (seemingly nonstop), someone singing, music, and someone working in a kitchen (klank, klank).
8. The small living/room dining room (including an area that must have once been a balcony and is now enclosed) is barely big enough for four adults—if you really like each other—but it’s really just too cramped.
9. The second bedroom is extremely small (barely room for two small, smaller than “twin” beds). It is not really for adults. And the second bathroom is off of a hallway and so the apartment is not suited for two adult couples. We used the second bedroom as a closet/dressing room and the second bathroom as the bathroom for my partner.
10. The primary bedroom is also small (but at least room enough to walk around the bed). The bed however is not an American King. It is two small beds joined together, with a length that cannot be more than 6 feet long. (We are not tall and our legs were off the bottom). The bed is way too hard and the pillows are way too small. The primary bedroom is attached to a little area that probably was at one time a balcony that has since been enclosed. There is a table and a narrow table in the balcony area. I used this as my closet and dressing room because the actual closet (which is inside the bathroom) is so tiny as to be unusable except for possibly a few-days stay.
11. The kitchen includes a rectangular table and four chairs that are not useable because they are crammed into a tight space. We pushed the table against the wall and were able to use it a place to sit groceries and laundry.
12. The utensils and pans and other items in the kitchen were quite used and worn. The pans were so dirty and not cleanable that we purchased a new skillet for our use during the stay, leaving it as a gift for the apartment.
13. The bathrooms were not as clean as they could be.

Overall, it’s a decent apartment for the money, but I would not stay there again. If you are a couple or perhaps a couple with one or two small children, and you are accustomed to living in tight quarters and you are on a tight budget, it might suit you fine. We are a couple with no children, and I would describe it as “adequate for a short stay on a budget.”

Dear Mr Markaldie,

We are really sorry to see your Sixtyfour experience was not good as it should. It is our goal to consistently provide superior service and accommodation and your comments are very important to us.

First of all, we would like to inform you that the apartments facing the backyard are bigger than the ones facing Passeig de Gràcia. The apartment 831 is a 90sm apartment, which is just 10sm smaller that the one shown in our video and photos. On the other hand, the apartments overlooking Passeig de Gràcia are 80sm apartments. We are sorry if the layout and size of the apartment did not meet your expectations.

We do really apologize for the Wifi connection and we inform you that we are working on it to improve it. As soon as you reported it to us, we apologized and reimbursed the whole amount paid for it.

As it is showed on our website, Apartments Sixtyfour are touristic apartments, so no hotel services like: daily cleaning, 24h in-house reception, concierge service… are included. On the other hand, there are a few extra services, like cleaning service, that can be arranged at a charge, before your arrival. Apart from this, once a week we offer towels and amenities replacement for free. As all our apartments are equipped with washing machine and dryer, our guests can clean and dry the sheets and towels during their stay.

We are deeply sorry if any other guest bothered you. In our Standard of Condunct, it is said that from 9pm no noise can be made and in case this happens, we ask our guests to let us know to sort it out. We are sorry that nothing could be done since no information regarding this matter was given to us.

We thank you for your feedback which it will make us improve in our service standards in the next future.

Best regards from Barcelona,

Àlex Barba

I cannot fault my experience at Apartments 64. The location is right in the heart of Barcelona and within easy walking distance or short taxi ride of all the key tourist spots. The apartments were very well laid out and ideal for families and/or those looking for an alternative to a hotel. I would certainly stay there again and would not hestiate to recommend them to other travellers.

A great place and good location! Secure and very clean environment. Close to all attractions and museums to visit, even from walking distance. It was like home away from home, we enjoyed and will be back...

We had never stayed at a apartment before, but will certainly will again. It was so spacious and certainly exceeded our expectations. There were four of us and it was nice to stay in the same area without having to get two rooms which we would have had to do at a hotel and at half the price. The apartment itself was well decorated and having a kitchen and washer and dryer was such a bonus. The building is located in a very central upscale neighborhood. There are plenty of great restaurants and shopping right out the front door. The only down side was the lobby which is a bit dreary but may be updated soon. I would certainly recommend these apartments they were GREAT!

During a months trip to Europe with three other couples we stopped off at Apartments Sixtyfour on our last leg in Spain. It was so refreshing to have an apartment in contrast to a hotel, we were able to wash clothes, have meals in the apartment and generally regroup.
If you arriving at the main train station - Sants Estacio change to the metro and take the green line to the station Passeig de Gracia. The apartments are a few minutes walk from the metro stop.
The apartments are spacious and have two bathrooms which is fantastic if you are sharing with another couple, there is a washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board and hairdryer, you are also provided with some toiletries. We did not find the noise in the front apartments a problem.
The procedure for checking in is to ring the agent when you arrive at the train station or airport, they will then meet you at the apartment and explain everything to you. At this stage you pay the remainder of the balance of the cost of the accommodation and the security deposit. We had Alex looking after us and he was fantastic, nothing was too much trouble. We reported a kettle that was not working and within a matter fo hours it was replaced. If you are leaving early onthe last day it is ok just to leave the keys in teh apartment.
The only negative to mention is that if you have decided to purchase internet connection as an extra be aware that the connection is not always reliable.
Overall I would highly recommend this accommodation.

I stayed with my friend last week at Aparment Sixty Four and with a long experience in renting apartments in Europe I can say this was one of the most pleasant stay for me. First of all the apartment was large enough and having tow bathrooms always helps. It is nicely furnished and very clean, also the one i stayed in was very quiet ( not facing the street) and i understand that sometimes this can be a problem in Barcelona. The amenities included anything a person would want but i whish they would have a cofee machine of some sort or even a filter. The best thing about this apartments is the location, you are close enough to the center but not in the middle of the most crowded parts. I enjoyed having coffee( instant) on the small balcony , very nice feature. Also the furniture and the design are very pleasant.
I whish the information we received were more clear, maybe they will work on it. I mean we were announced that we need to pay a deposit which in the end proved to be smaller which is great, but they wanted it only on card. Also they announced that you can have house keeping only if you pay extra, even though a cleaning lady came one afternoon, which was great again but we would have preffered to know about it , so there are small details which i think can be improved.
Also the nightmare with the keyes, most of the guests could not open their own doors(((((, I HAD TO EXERCISE !!!!!
With all the above i would stronly reccomend this place and i plan to come back

Room Tip: Ask for a apartment facing the back of the building

We really enjoyed staying in this apartment. It was well equipped, and was a nice change from small European hotel rooms. This is a great location in Barcelona, near the metro, and we enjoyed walking the Passeig de Gracia. We used the washer and dryer, which are small, but it was nice to wash clothes in the middle of our trip. The staff was friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again.
