“We loved Ana Mayoral's guided tour in La Sagrada Familia”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 November 2013

We purchased our tickets while on the "Hop on Hop off" bus tour, which is a must! in Barcelona.

We heard of the "La Sagrada Familia" tour while on the bus and purchased our tickets for Thursday 14 3PM tour.

We were blessed having Ana Mayoral as our tour guide!

We arrived at Julia Travel's agency at 3:00 PM promptly and we had no problems finding the address. We used our iPhone to locate the address, plus we got the correct directions from the staff on the bus... so we didn't have any issues getting there.

We checked in with one of the staff whom was validating the tickets. Once this was done, they asked us to await across the street, right in front of the part, which faces the basilica.

There was approximately 46 people in total and it was divided in two groups. The tour guides where fluent in both Spanish and English, and our guide, Ana Mayoral, translated perfectly both languages (I'm bilingual).

We started our walk towards the basilica from the agency at around 3:15 PM. We arrived the 'group tour' entrance where she provided us with the tickets to get in, then, they provided head sets which would allow us to hear her clearly... this is the best part! because no matter how far you were, you could hear her clearly.

Ana, took her time in describing in detail the significance of all of the sides of the structure, the history behind the basilica, responded to questions on the building materials used, historical dates and visits of well know, capacity questions, architects involved in building this fascinating and beautiful basilica and much more. She was very patient answering all questions presented, was always very professional and friendly, patient with those whom stranded away and new how to manage the large group.

Our tour ended approximately at 5:05 PM and it was overwhelming, so much to see! We then had free time to take photos and visit the gift shop.

Overall, we were very happy with the service Ms. Mayoral provided via Julia Travel agency.

“Julia Travel - La Familia Sagrada Tour - WORTHLESS!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 November 2013

We spent 2 weeks in Spain and had excellent tours as we traveled from Madrid to Cordoba, Sevilla, Jerez and Granada. When we reached Barcelona we enjoyed the Barcelona Turisme tour of Gothic Barcelona and our tour of Montserrat and Oller de Mas Winery was fun and interesting.

Unfortunately, our final tour, Sagrada Familia - Jump the Queue, booked with Julia Travel, was dreadful.First, it was difficult to find the office, even using the printed directions that came with our tickets; many other tourists complained of the same problem, in fact, many people were walking up and down streets and the square looking for the office.

Once at the office, we were ignored. There were several employees standing around doing nothing and one who was sitting at her desk, slowly working her way through the long line of tourists. Twenty-five minutes after the published start of the tour, Julia employees were still unsure who and how many would conduct the tour! Once this was finally determined, the guides took off toward the church, with everyone trying unsuccessfully to keep up with them. By the time the large group reached Sagrada Familia, there were only 45 minutes left before it closed!

Instead of the 2 hour tour that was advertised, we had 45 minutes at this amazing structure! Not even close to the amount of time that was needed. What a disappointment! And we were charged approximately $40 each! What a rip off!

I have read similar complaints about Julia Travel and have seen the company's responses, so I fully expect them to have excuses for this too.

“Awful staff problem”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 November 2013

We went on the Hop-On Hop-Off Tour in Barcelona. When we inquired about another day at about noon, the associate told us she was too busy to deal with that at that point. We switched busses and asked the guy on the bus and he said we were too late and it had to be done by 4:00 pm. We told him what happened and he said tough but he wouldn't do anything for us. He was so rude that I asked him his name and he refused to give it to me. He told me I was a bit-h. My husband heard this and went on the bus and took his picture to show his boss. He went ballistic and tried to choke my husband with his camera strap and break his $5000 camera. The bus driver finally had to pull the guy off my husband! When I called the Julia travel company, they said they didn't have a manager there and didn't even apologize for the guys behavior! I have attached pictures to verify this event really did happen. What awful customer service this company has. I have been on MANY Gray Line Tours and this was the worst service EVER. They need to work on their staff and make them wear name tags for easy identification and accountability of their behaviors.

“Highlights of Barcelona”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 October 2013

We booked several tours through Julia travel (their tours not third party). We did the highlights of Barcelona (full day) and Freixenet/Stigas (1/2 day). The highlight tours of Barcelona were exactly that an overview of what is to see. However, the afternoon and morning were entirely different experiences with some common items anyone should be aware of.

The major difference was the tour guide. In the am the guide did NOT adhere to the schedule and waited for some people to return to the motor coach (after having said there was a few minute grace period. At one stop it was over 20 minutes which caused us to miss some sights. The afternoon we actually left one person who did not return after 10 minutes and had a much better experience.

A common item is language. Even though both tours were primarily english speaking the guides both started in Spanish (the first 1/2 day was 90% english speaking), the afternoon was about 60% (with 3 other languages). This means that as you pass points of interest you may MISS the place entirely by the time the explanation is provided.

That being said we would have had to take taxis to several of the points which would have cost more. Also it was a highlights which means no time to really explore. If the morning tour had followed the schedule and both tours had started with the language of the majority of the visitors it would have been okay

Thank you for taking the time to post your review.

Please be assured that we fully appreciate the points you have raised and would, once again, like to offer our sincere apologies for the disappointment you have expressed.

Regarding the difference between the morning and the afternoon GUIDE way to deal with the waiting time, I agree with you that 20 minutes is too long. We reminded our guides that we have a schedule to follow, so there is a global procedure on how to deal in these cases.

Otherwise are the languages used as all our tours are done, at least, in English and Spanish. Sometimes in the tour there are more English speaking travelers and sometimes there are more Spanish speaking travelers and our guides always tell the same in both languages or at least they try to do.

Thank you once again for your feedback and we hope that we will be able to welcome you again soon for a hopefully improved and more enjoyable experience.

Kind Regards,

“Abandoned by the guide”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 September 2013

We booked a half-day tour of Barcelona through Marriott, which was handled by Julia Travel. The guide was fine till the end (more on that below) although the tour, while nominally in English, was actually done in three languages which limited the amount of information that could be conveyed.

The real problem, however, was that the guide abandoned us along the way. We were instructed to be at a certain location at a certain time. We were there but he never showed up and we ended up having to take a taxi back to the hotel. This was particularly surprising since we were part of a small group and he could have easily recognized our absence.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review.

Regarding the languages used, all our tours are done, at least, in English and Spanish. It can be done in three languages depending on the group nationalities

I’m concerned about being abandoned by our guide, It would be very helpful to receive more details of your trip through an email as to which tour saw it and which day.
However let me point in all our tours everything is scheduled, this is a regular tour departing and arriving at scheduled times. We must follow the program to be on time at the different places we are going to visit.

We understand that there may be some unforeseen delays which delays the return of the passengers. So before we departs, there is a courtesy waiting time of 15-20 minutes; once this time has been passed, the bus heads to its next destinations, as there are more passengers on board who complied to the meeting.
