We stayed here for 3 nights in a double pension room. The location is on a side street from La Rambla and in the Gothic Quarter. It's close to several good restaurants and cafeterias. The rooms are the basic, the bed was a little hard, but it was sufficient for us. A weary part of the hotel is that you need to give the front desk your room and safe key each time you leave the hotel. Nothing happened, but I was a bit uneasy with that part. I wish the hotel breakfast had better selections, since the hotel also has a cafeteria. But for the price and central location, I would still recommend.

My husband and I spent 5 nights in this hotel in early September. My rating is completely based on proximity to the happening spots in Barcelona and the quality of the accommodations. This is a no frills kind of place but it has everything you need - a bed and a bathroom. The bathroom was a nice size and very clean. The room itself was also a nice size and the wi-fi worked very well. I honestly can't think of a single complaint. The staff was nice and helpful. If you like very cute, frilly hotels then this may not work for you. But if you care more about location and simply having a place to sleep then this is definitely a great spot.

nice, clean, very good situation, not expensive.

only thing : don't take the breakfast with the room, soooo bad.

But the worst...... following an error in ma reservation on booking, there were two room with my name.
They didnet told me till the last day and then asked my to pay for one more night, corresponding with the fisrt night in the other room, that was obviously empty !!

if i had known this as soon as arrived i would have benen staying one night less, because i didn't have enough money... or i would have had time to contact booking or i don't know...

it wasn't honest. i had to pay and it was a very unpleasant experience. And more, they told me it was my fault (Why would i have taken 2 rooms with my own name??? obviously they wanted to make money)

But i had to take my plane, i payed and i left. F****.

I stayed at Hostal Fernando for 3 nights in a single room (september 6-9 2013):
The room is small, but very clean and calm (no noise from the streets)
The staff are very friendly and helpful
The breakfast is good
As for the location, it is the best you can get, since it's close to the main attractions in the city and in the middle of the central entertainment (La Rambla street).

We are an Indian family of 3 members (husband, wife with teenage daughter) and spent 4 nights in a triple room with breakfast from 27 June to 30 June 2013.
The location of the hotel in the heart of Bari Gothic area or old part of the Barcelona city (on Carre Feran) at the same time just minutes away from the ever bustling Las Ramblas walking street makes it very convnient for exploring the city. Plaza Cataluniya is about 10-12 minutes walk from the hotel as is the Picasso Museum, Columbus Monument, Marine Museum and host of other attractions such as Barcelona Cathedral, Boqueria Market & Placa St. Jaume. The breakfast provided was quite good and adquate with variety of options available. The staff at the reception (Mr. Owais and others) were most helpful and attentive to all our queries and resolving any minute problems we faced. They arranged a packed breakfast for the last day as we left very early in the morning even though we informed abut the same late night as we arrived late after a full day tour. Besides, there were plenty of dining out options available around the hotel with all type of cuisines available and Placa Reial nearby added to the quality dining options.
The only thing that needs improvement is the old and shabby decor of the room interiors though all basic and requisite amenities were available including toiletries and the whole establishment was quite clean and well maintained in general.
Would surely recommend for travellers with tight budget or those who want to have a decent but not luxurious stay in a conveniet part of the city.

Room Tip: Choose a higher floor room on the front side

place was small, but good value. Our problem was one staff member who was incredibly rude. Had very poor English. When we asked to have a voucher printed, he flipped out telling us to go "around the corner" to do it. He called his colleagues "stupid" because they had told us this wouldn't be a problem. Accused of sending 15 pages to be printed which wasn't true! He fell over himself apologizing when others were around. Neither I or my 2 friends would stay there again despite the value and location. No one needs to be treated like that.

We stayed at Hostel Fernando for 5 nights in July 2013. It is in a great central city location very near the cathedral, La Rambla and a metro station. It has a 24 hour reception and the staff throughout the hotel were friendly and extremely helpful. Our room was right at the top and we heard no street noise at night and it had a t.v., safe, hairdryer, ensuite and was cleaned daily and kept very clean. There was always hot water in the shower whatever time of day and there was aircon in the room. There was a varied age group at the hotel, not just backpackers, and there is a lift so suitable for people who might find it difficult to climb up stairs. Breakfast was included in price and was a typical European style ... cheese, ham, cereal, croissants, toast, fruit juices, tea, coffee etc ... on a help yourself basis. There was a common room, luggage lockers you could use for free ... great on your last day when you want to go out in the city after you have checked out. There's wifi and two computers you can use for l euro. The free walking tours ... we did Runner Bean and I would really recommend doing one, was informative, fun and full of useful tips on what to see and where to go in Barcelona ... also collect you from the hotel lobby. We felt very at home at Hotel Fernando and would highly recommend it. We paid 82 euro a night for two of us in a triple room and we felt this was really good value.
