“Central location provides a comfortable and reliable stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 February 2014

Four of us stayed here for 3 nights in November 2013. Overall, it was a great stay with a fantastic central location for tourists, solid basic amenities, and a very helpful front desk. We paid a very good price, and I would stay here again if and when I return to Barcelona.

Location:

There was some construction being done on the outside of the building, so it was hard at first to discern where the hotel actually was - it’s on one floor of the building above a sports memorabilia store. The building is across the street from the Plaza de Catalunya, which is the starting and ending point for Barcelona’s Hop On Hop Off busses. It’s also about a 5 minute walk to Las Ramblas so you can easily experience Las Ramblas but avoid the noise when you want to sleep.

Room:

Our four-bed room looked fresh from recent hotel renovations and was clean and comfortable. Like most city hotels, the room was small and there was not much space to move around with our luggage inside, but we spent most our time outside of the room anyway. There were two beds, a couch, and a pull-out mattress that stood up to become a fourth bed. The two beds had very new mattresses and the couch was a good firm bed, but the pull-out mattress didn’t have much support and sank down a good amount in the middle (like a cheap sofa bed). The view was blocked by scaffolding on the outside because construction was being done on the building, but the construction only went on from late morning to late afternoon when we were not in the room. The bathroom was very new and had a modern look. The thin walls become apparent when you have noisy neighbors - we had some young people in the room next door who were loud going in and out of their room.

Front Desk:

The front desk was staffed 24 hours and was very helpful - we booked our Hop On Hop Off tickets through them and had a cab called when we had to catch our flight. The attendees all spoke good English and were able to give great restaurant recommendations to us. There is a public lounge area for guests with a TV, couches, and tables that has a great homely feel.

Accessibility:

While the hotel floor has recently been renovated, the elevator in the building has not - it was small and cramped, and there are a lot of stairs if you’re up for the climb.

Internet:

The Wi-Fi connection in the room was fast and reliable. There are computers available for public use in the lobby for a small fee.

Breakfast:

There is no formal breakfast offering - tea, coffee, and drinks were available at a small cafe bar in the lobby. We went to a nearby McDonalds and other bakery shops in the mornings for coffee and breakfast.

Thank you very much for your kind review.
The location is indeed the most central in Barcelona, on a corner of Plaza Catalunya, the central square of the city.
Come and see for yourself!

Stayed here for one night with my wife and friend while in transit to Vietnam. Booked hotel at airport tourist info kiosk and paid 5.50 Euros convenience charge. The hotel is right on the Plaza Catalunya so the location is great. Walk out the front door and you're on the Ramblas. Hotel is on 3rd floor of elevator equipped building. Aerobus runs from airport to Plaza Catalunya. 25 minute transit time.

Rooms are very clean and very modern. Flat screened TV. Great bathroom with shower. Comfortable, new mattresses. Some noise issues as building is set above a subway route but nothing that will keep you from sleeping. Hotel offers free WIFI. Also: hard wired desktop with printer, laundry, lending library, tv room, bar and cafe. Set price breakfast option available but local cafe competition make a walk downstairs more economical. Dutch fellow by the name of Alfred runs the show with a firm hand. Good guy. Very personable.

Minor issue with bathroom door lock not working. Staff is very helpful and friendly. We paid 55 Euro for the night. We would definitely stay here again as the location and price were a good fit.

The location of the hotel is perfect to reach all the main attractions of Barcelona. Despite facing the Plaza Catalunya, the room was very quiet and provided for a good rest. Although the hotel is tiny, it is very cosy and makes one feel like home. The staff is very welcoming and friendly, willing to help. All in all, a great choice for me.

The Hotel Ginebra is a fantastic hotel and is situated in a perfect location to get around Barcelona.

We booked this hotel after reading reviews on here and the communication between us and the staff before we went was second to none. They were very accomodating and made sure that everything was perfect for when we got there. This trip was for my 40th so we wanted everything to be as perfect as it could be.

The Hotel Ginebra is situated on the Plaça de Catalunya, which is the heart of Barcelona and ideally situated for easy access to Las Ramblas, the Metro etc. When we got to the Hotel it was quite weird cause the Hotel is actually situated in a building that also houses businesses. The building is beautiful and has lots of old fashioned design inside and is really beautiful, it also has one of those old school elevators you see in the movies with the cages around, and this was great cause the Hotel is on the third floor.

We checked in and the staff couldn't have been more helpful, very friendly and made you feel welcome all the time, chatting to you whenever they saw you. The rooms are small, but a beautifully furnished and you can tell they have been recently renovated with really modern bathrooms en-suite as well. As I said the rooms are small but I feel that it's a base and perfect for what you need. The beds were extremely comfortable and had memory foam mattresses.

If I had to give it a criticism then they are busy cleaning all of the buildings on the Plaça so there was scaffolding and also a massive IPhone dust sheet over the building which hampered the view, but as I said, it was a base and all we did was sleep there, so for the location, price, service etc. I couldn't complain.

There are bar facilities and tea coffee making and also a lounge for visitors to sit in, and the staff again were helpful when my wife wanted a cup of tea late at night or we wanted a beer when we came in late at night.

There is a small supermarket underneath the building for any essentials you may need and also a wonderful sportsbar right underneath which we had two fantastic meals in. There are plenty of cafes and McDonald's, Burger Kings etc. if you want a breakfast before you set off for the day.

This was for my 40th so we went and watched Barca v Villarreal at the Nou Camp, which was amazing and the metro system is really easy to use. We also went to the Sagrada Família, which was immense, but you need to pay to go in it though to get the true feel of it, you will not be disappointed. We also went up to Montjuïc Castle via cable car which again was brilliant and the views of Barcelona are a photographers dream. We were there for 4 days but to see everything in Barca you probably need 4 month. It's a beautiful city and by far my favourite.

Overall Hotel Ginebra was fantastic, it's location and view of Plaça de Catalunya are it's strong points and also it's lovely rooms and staff add to it's appeal. It is 100% value for money and when I go back to Barcelona I wouldn't stay anywhere else, well done Hotel Ginebra!!

First of all Happy New Year.
Thank you very much for this very generous review. We try to make our guests happy. It does not always work, but it a great pleasure to receive this kind of feedback and to know we have done a good job.
One piece of info for potential new guests: the publicity of Iphone has been replaced by a publicity of Turkish airlines, with a large picture of Leo Messi. So when you get off the airport bus, you can look across and see it.
The council is painting the facade of the building, as it is considered one of the most important corners of the city. These buildings always have to stay 100% in excellent shape, as they are a billboard for the beautiful city of Barcelona.
All the best for 2014
The entire staff of Hotel Ginebra.
