“Great for the Money”
Reviewed 24 June 2012

The staff was wonerful, and most everyone spoke some English. The location is great, just of Las Ramblas, particularly if you are there for a shorter trip. The rooftop deck/bar was very nice to have, and the food was decent, prices were also not too bad. There is a new pool, but it is very small so dont expect much except to cool off (but this is very common in Barcelona hotels). The rooms did lack nearly any windows, so natural light was virtually inexistent, but we found it no problem. The rooms were well sized, modern, and very clean. There was also free water and juice in the room everyday. Wifi was available in-room for a fee, or in the lobby or rofftop for free. Overall it was a great hotel.

Stayed here for three nights in a standard room - the smallest, with a double bed, for which we got a good price online. The room was small, but perfectly adequate, as we didn't want to spend a lot of time there.

Very nice building, stylishly decorated rooms. Everything was very clean, everything worked fine, good shower, polite and helpful hotel staff, excellent location for central Barcelona, very near to the metro. The only downside was the silly price asked per day for in-room wifi. We just used the free wifi in reception, which worked OK.

We didn't eat here, but had drinks at the rooftop bar, which was OK.

We'd stay there again without hesitation and would recommend it.

Room Tip: If you want a big room, don't take a standard.

The hotel was magnificent! Beautifully decorated rooms with many hi-tech facilities! The location was perfect, just 2 minutes from Las Ramblas , everything was just a few minutes away. We didn't try the breakfast because we could find cheaper choices just outside the door. We didn't have a window apart from a balcony door opening inside the hotel but we didn't really care!! We had a lovely time in a beautiful historic hotel with smiley and helpful staff!

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience with us. It is very rewarding to know that you have enjoyed your stay and that our staff was helpful and charm.
For your next visit to Hotel España I recommend you to taste our buffet breakfast, it is only 12.50 € per person and you have a wide offer of fruit, bread, pastries, ... served in the most emblematic room in Hotel España: Las Sirenas, Modernist style which its mention must be given to the mural painted on the wall, with its sea motifs, attributed to the painter Ramon Casas.
I hope to see you soon in a near future.

The hotel is located right off the Ramblas - which depending on what you like could be a good thing or bad thing. It was a bit too centrally located in terms of major tourist traffic. The building dates from 1900 if I recall correctly and has been beautifully restored. The rooms are modern and nicely decorated, however our room was way too small for our comfort. I think our room was a Superior category (the Standard being the smallest) and it was very cozy to say the least and the bathroom felt cramped.

I would recommend paying a bit extra for a larger room or for about the same price of a room upgrade at Hotel Espana you are better off at the Hotel Condes de Barcelona, a sister property located on the Passeig de Gracia which I also stayed at and preferred for several reasons: location (very central but in a calmer and classier neighborhood), large bathrooms and the regular (not deluxe) rooms were nice and big. The service at this hotel was friendly, but there was only one front desk clerk who looked overwhelmed at times.

I would not recommend this hotel if you have a car. We learned the hard way...there is no on-site parking at the hotel and the cost to park at the closest public garage was 40 Euros per night!?

First of all I would like to thank you to share your opinion about Hotel España with other visitors.
I do also recommend to book a superior or Deluxe room if your stay is going to be for more than two nights. They are larger than the standar, and have also included on the room rate the minibar with juice, water and snaks.
As we are located in the middle centre of the city, close to Las Ramblas and the old part of the city, I would also recommend you to arrive the hotel by taxi or public transport. However, if you come by car, our front desk will inform you about the nearer one. Cordially.

Very nice, ultra modern decor, friendly service, descent price. We didn't like that the window in our room went to an atrium, and the walls were pretty thin. Internet service was around 8 euros for 24 hours, which wasn't too bad. Overall a very nice hotel, in a great location.

My wife and I stayed 3 nights in this hotel and we really enjoyed our stay. The bed is comfy, rooms are stylish and staff were great.

However, the free internet access was only available next to the hotel's reception downstairs. No wifi in the rooms.

If you don't need the internet that much during your travel, then Hotel Espana is highly recommended as the rooms are very comfartable and the internet is available downstairs.

Thank you very much for giving your opinion on Hotel España. We take your comments very seriously and we daily work to offer our best to make our guests feel confortable and pleased.
About the wifi, as you clearly comment, is free in all the hotel (terrace, hall, bar, ...), except on the rooms, where we offer the possibility to have higher and faster connection.
It is very rewarding to know taht our staff were helful and charm, we hardly work on that point.
I hope to see you very soon in Hotel España again.
