“Fabulous location, great vibe”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 June 2014

We absolutely loved Hotel Espana. The location cannot be faulted. This is a fab part of town. The room was charming, clean and well serviced daily. The staff are friendly and the rooftop bar with plunge pool was such a bonus. We didn't try the in-hotel restaurants but they look very stylish. Decor throughout is gorgeous. The hotel is close to loads of fantastic restaurants, so you will be spoilt for choice. I would definitely book this hotel again. For light sleepers, I would recommend ear plugs if you book a street facing room. Barcelona itself is INCREDIBLE.

Arrived early morning from the US. The area around the hotel is congested with traffic so be prepared to sit in your taxi! I was celebrating my 50th and had requested an early check-in. Front desk was great and was able to accommodate. I chose the hotel because of the architecture - you won't be disappointed. Both restaurants for breakfast, and Fonda's for lunch and dinner are stunning. Hallways and rooms are very small and claustrophobic -- there isn't any room to unpack or put your medium size suitcases. We had a walk out to an interior terrace which was lovely (we eat take out outside one night) but slightly noisy (the neighboring residents had a dog who wouldn't stop barking). Service was always polite and attentive.

The property is old and on first impressions, quite welcoming. Sadly, it's lush and expensive modernization resulted in rooms that are elegant, but cold. In our room, there were no windows to the outside - only to interior courts that were covered by glass. The room was small, which you should expect in the centre of Barcelona, but the lack of natural lighting gave the room a rather cloistered feeling, and we didn't enjoy returning to it after a day exploring this wonderful city. At night sounds from the courtyards easily reached up to our 2nd floor room. The staff was efficient and courteous but mirrored the coldness of the remodelling. Overall, not a bad hotel, but not one I'd return to.

Room Tip: The rooms that face the two courtyards suffer from a lack of natural light.

Enjoyed my visit to the city that i left my heart and i never get back.. Barcelona baby !! who doesn't love Barcelona ? All the historical building, lovely ambiance, great food, incredible sangria, and amazing people.. I stayed in this luxury hotel in a fantastic location at the heart of Barcelona Las Ramblas. because i just wanna make the easiest way to walking around around Barcelona.. Staff were helpful, nice rooms but small, near the metro station, lil bit noisy because near the main area, and easy access to anywhere.

Room pleasant, didn't get cleaned. Roof terrace cramped and no view, pool more of foot spa and breakfast not worth bothering with, better to eat out. Intend to return to Barcelona but would stay in one of the bigger hotels next time.

Dear Jane,
First of all I would like to thank you for choosing us for your stay in Barcelona. I am very dissapointed to hear we did not fulfill 100% your expectations.
About the room cleaning, there must have been a missunderstanding because rooms are daily carefully cleaned.
I take good note of your comments in order to improve service and prevent situations like the one you describe be repeated. In the meantime, I hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back at Hotel España.
Looking forward to having another opportunity to demonstrate you the high standard of our services and facilities. Cordially yours.

Enjoyed our stay here, hotel is in a fab location, price reflects the standard of hotel and location.staff helpful and friendly.
Rooms are small but have everything you need for a short break. Standard room has no window to outside and the noise seems to travel in the hotel so not that quiet a place.

Dear Hannah,
First of all I would like to thank you for having chosen Hotel España for your recent trip to Barcelona.
We appreciate to have your feedback since we are always concerned by the remarks and satisfactions of our guests.
Due to its status as a historical building, standard rooms are some of them rather small, so for a long stay I would recommend to book superior rooms.

I look forward to welcoming you back to our Hotel very soon. My best regards.

What a architecturally stunning hotel this is. Very aesthetically pleasing. Located well just off La Rambla with the metro station 'Liceu' close by. Rooms are quite small, but the bathroom is a decent size. Our window was opposite a hostel and up until about 1am (when they went out) we were able to hear them partying in their room. This wasn't too much of an issue though. Another issue with the location is as you walk left out of the hotel, it is an area known for prostitution...we walked down there at about 9pm and saw ladies 'offering' themselves to men as they walked past. This was a very uncomfortable sight.

Furthermore, on our last night we wanted a drink in the bar as it was raining...only we went down to be told that we are unable to, due to a 'private party'. This was wine tasting for a group of random people. As a result, we sat in reception waiting for the rain to pass. I understand that we are unable to encroach on a private function, but when the bar is empty as they are tasting in the dining area, they should have been able to cater for those whom have specifically chosen to stay at Hotel Espana for a holiday. If not, then have offered room service at least.

However, we had a lovely stay at Hotel Espana. The roof top terrace is a really nice sun trap area too, which when quiet, is highly recommended!

Room Tip: Standard rooms are fine for two, a little small, but when in Barcelona how much time will you be spe...

First of all I would like to thank you for taking the time to write us to share your experience at Hotel España.
I am happy to know that above all you enjoyed your stay but I really apologize to hear that you could not enjoy the bar area while a private party was taken place. It was a very exceptional situation, and the rain that day obliged us to close the terrace bar. We will pay all our attention for things like that not to be repeated in the future. I do really apologize for the inconveniences we might have caused.

I remain at your disposal for any further assistance you might require and hope to welcome back at Hotel España in the near future. Yours cordially.
