“Perfect place and perfect location”
Reviewed 9 July 2013

Stayed in 3 different places in Barcelona during our 4 day trip, and this place was excellent. 1 min walk from La Rambla, beautiful room (we had a double room with double bed), great breakfast included and balcony. Free access to computer and WiFi as well (althoug we did not get the WiFI to work). I can really recommend this place!

Stayed there for a week in early June 2013 Good location, being central, and close to most tourist attractions. Hotel amenities were basic, though in need of major upgrade even to warrant a 2 star rating. Breakfast was included in the price, but it lacked choice, variety and sometimes quantity. I think you dare not ask for a second cup of coffee! The staff generally were stern, unfriendly and sometimes very rude, with a dislike for smiling and saying "Good morning". One exception, a charming female receptionist (Italian, I think), who was friendly, helpful at all times. Unfortunately, she was on duty on rare occasions.

If the hotel upgraded its basic amenities, trained the staff in how to be friendly and corteous to its visitors it could improve its rating and warrant its 2 star rating.

Room Tip: Book a room on the street side, but above second floor level. Please note that when in your room it...

Stayed here for 2 nights and found it very pleasant. They staff were very friendly and happy to help with anything. They all spoke English very well. Breakfast was simple but satisfying enough, and the rooms were clean and adequate for our needs. Maybe on the small side for some people, but considering your out for best part of the day and only realy sleep there it's worth it. The airconditioning system worked fine and discovered if you left a credit card size piece of plastic in the wall slot you came back to nice cool room. The only downside was that the aircon had a funny smell to it, but the windows opened so if it became a problem for you just open the windows instead! Excellent location if you want to be in the heart of everything especially shopping areas.

We stayed only one night--our last in Europe before flying home. It is just a minute walk from the Placa de Catalunyna where you catch the aerobus to the airport. The room we had, 401, was spacious, although the bathtub was quite small. the shower was fine. It was a basic room--nothing to make your heart race, but solidly comfortable, clean and quiet. I really appreciated the nice reception and the ease with which we got in and out of the place. For ambience, I would prefer further into the El Raval or Barri Gotic areas, but for the price, this was a great find, particularly close to metro, buses, restaurants etc.

We stayed at the Hotel Cortes for just a night before embarking a cruise in Barcelona, and what a find it was!! This family-run place is quite modest in the reception area, but all rooms have been modernised and ours was extremely comfortable; the bed was of good quality, the bathroom nice and fresh and storage space was generous, with a safe included

Breakfast was just the usual continental pastries, etc, but the coffee was superb and everything went well

The hotel is on Santa Ana Road, just a step away from Plaxza Catalunya and the location is perfect for everything; it's also quiet as the road is narrow and little-visited. There's even a superb little restaurant very near the hotel, also called the Santa Ana ... leave the hotel, turn right and it's about 50 yards down on the left. Excellent food, great prices and lovely staff

We had researched for a good hotel, using maps, AAA, and wanted to be in the heart of Barcelona. This hotel proved to have it all. We checked in very early - 7:30 AM, after just getting off our cruise ship. of course our room wasn't ready until 1 PM, but they had a locked room to store our luggage. The desk clerk gave us several good tips on what to see, and circled items that were of special interest.
We had requested a room with a view, and we had a balcony larger than our room on the fifth floor, with a table and chairs, + a chaise lounge chair.
ONLY DRAWBACK. The cooling/heating system didn't work. in the middle of the night, the room was very hot, even thou we had the system on COOL. By shutting the system off, and opening the door to the balcony, did we finally get back to sleep.
The breakfast, provided with the cost of the room, was a typical European breakfast, and the attendant was very "on top" of everyones needs.

Room Tip: Ask about the heating/cooling system.

Hotel Cortes certainly isn't the trendiest in Barcelona, but it's a comfortable nights sleep in a fantastic location. The hotel is just a block away from placa de catalunya, an entrance to both passieg de gracia and la rambla. When we arrived, something had gone wrong with the booking which meant I'd reserved the room for one person. I'm not sure what happened, but it wasn't our fault or the Hotels, I'm blaming easyjet who I booked with. They were very understanding and managed to rearrange so we were able to stay in the same room during our stay. The room was clean and comfortable. We didn't get how to work the safe but found everything was left in its place after the maids had visited. The breakfast was really basic, but it was free so couldn't complain. The kitchen attendant was very kind and makes a lovely coffee. Only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is the shower. The shower was very small and uncomfortable. Not nice if you're someone who gets quite claustrophobic, but other than that everything was great!
