We were in Barcelona for a cruise and spent a couple nights in a hotel. we went to the Biennal because they were offering a special , two 3 course meals for 10 euros each. Although no one spoke English , the waiter figured out what we wanted. It was really good, I had the fish and potatoes plus dessert, and my wife had the spaghetti dinner. with wine the bill came to 21 euros. Naturally this is not the usual price but the food was really good and if we get back to Barcelona this will definitely be on our list.

We enjoyed the Veg Tapas options on offer here. Nachos was topped with a unusual but tasty salsa. Aubergine tartare served with tomato bread was excellent. Plus usual tapas options for vegetarians - peppers, patata Bravas etc.

Service was great and it was evident that the restaurant is popular with the locals.

Located on the pedestrian promenade "Rambla del Poblenou" (not to be confused with La Rambla, Barcelona's central business avenue), La Biennal is in the less touristy Poblenou area of the city. The street is lined with eateries, many of them touting tapas and paella, but of all the ones we tried during our 11 day stay La Biennal was by far the best. Go with what is in season and on the menu of the day. They have menus in English, French, Spanish, and Catalan, and all the waiters could manage in English. We enjoyed both the classic tapas like croquettes and pan con tomate and innovative ones like "eggplant tartare." We ate there three times in four days, it was that good! The calamari was the lightest and crispiest I've ever had and the iberico ham, which we had several times all throughout spain, was the most melt-in-your-mouth.

Their menú del día, as of June 30 2013, costs under 13€, and for that we got a very good gazpacho and a delicious slow-cooked lamb lag, plus warm bread and nice tasting wine. The service was good and prompt. It was stuffy inside and we were seated under a giant air conditioning unit, so when asked if it was possible to turn it on, the waiter did it right away.

We only had beer and papas bravas. My husband loved the spicy mayo and he said it was the best he had in the area.
