We've returned to the Expo Hotel three times and love it. There are faults but the good stuff is outweighed by the bad.
The location is excellent, next to Sants station for easy access to train connections, the airport train and the metro. Also very close to Tarragona and Espanya metro so you have more choice of connections. The neighbourhood is quiet but safe and there are bars, restaurants and shops nearby for all you need. The park next to the hotel is lovely and just past the Parc Industriel the area has great squares and streets for tapas and beers. Walking distance to Espanya which has the great Arenes shopping centre and more great views, the palace on the hill and the magic fountains. For those who like walking, it isn't a hard walk to Catalunya, Las Ramblas and the old town and even the port and beach if you're energetic!
The rooms are simple but fine and have all you need. Comfy beds with decent pillows, two arm chairs, brilliant balcony (get a high room looking into Montjuic for best views) and all toiletries you could want. The mini bar and room service are ok. This time I was disappointed with the cleanliness of the bathroom, lots of marks on the floor, splashes on the tiles and cup marks all around the sink when we arrived and a damp smell but usually it has been ok. The TV is ancient but we don't watch it on holiday. The wifi connection was terrible this time, could only connect in some parts of the room, often disconnected and couldn't use it on the balcony. I think they need an upgrade.
The best thing about the place is the roof terrace, pool and bar. Plenty of sun loungers, fabulous little splash pool, amazing views and nice beers and cocktails on the roof. Even on cloudy days it gets lots of sunshine and is petfer for relaxing and making the most of a break before or after exploring Barcelona. We tried the new burgers on the roof bar and they were fine but I wouldn't have again.
All in all, this hotel is simple with some brilliant features like the balconies, roof terrace, pool and excellent location. We'll be back again and would recommend it to others.
