Expo Hotel Barcelona
Ranked #334 of 515 Hotels in Barcelona
Reviewed 8 August 2014 via mobile

We've returned to the Expo Hotel three times and love it. There are faults but the good stuff is outweighed by the bad.

The location is excellent, next to Sants station for easy access to train connections, the airport train and the metro. Also very close to Tarragona and Espanya metro so you have more choice of connections. The neighbourhood is quiet but safe and there are bars, restaurants and shops nearby for all you need. The park next to the hotel is lovely and just past the Parc Industriel the area has great squares and streets for tapas and beers. Walking distance to Espanya which has the great Arenes shopping centre and more great views, the palace on the hill and the magic fountains. For those who like walking, it isn't a hard walk to Catalunya, Las Ramblas and the old town and even the port and beach if you're energetic!

The rooms are simple but fine and have all you need. Comfy beds with decent pillows, two arm chairs, brilliant balcony (get a high room looking into Montjuic for best views) and all toiletries you could want. The mini bar and room service are ok. This time I was disappointed with the cleanliness of the bathroom, lots of marks on the floor, splashes on the tiles and cup marks all around the sink when we arrived and a damp smell but usually it has been ok. The TV is ancient but we don't watch it on holiday. The wifi connection was terrible this time, could only connect in some parts of the room, often disconnected and couldn't use it on the balcony. I think they need an upgrade.

The best thing about the place is the roof terrace, pool and bar. Plenty of sun loungers, fabulous little splash pool, amazing views and nice beers and cocktails on the roof. Even on cloudy days it gets lots of sunshine and is petfer for relaxing and making the most of a break before or after exploring Barcelona. We tried the new burgers on the roof bar and they were fine but I wouldn't have again.

All in all, this hotel is simple with some brilliant features like the balconies, roof terrace, pool and excellent location. We'll be back again and would recommend it to others.

This is a great hotel to use as a base for a visit to Barcelona. Transport is great, there are plenty of shops and restaurants around if you don't want to go into the centre for a meal. It has a rooftop pool and sunbathing area which has fantastic views. There is also a rooftop bar and restaurant. A couple of negatives, the pool chairs could do with being renewed, most were badly cracked/broken, cushions would also be an added bonus. The other negative was, each room had a balcony, but no furniture. Even a couple of folding chairs would be brilliant. Overall, I would go back. It is tired in places, the carpets in the public hallways could do with being replaced, or a good clean, but the rooms were a great size and for what we paid you couldn't really fault it

Room Tip: We had an executive room on level 6 which faced the station, so we also got a good view, but high ro...

Fantastic location to the Sants Station; making it easy to find the hotel after coming off the train for the airport. hardly any walking involved. Since we were using the metro more than a few times a day the location was great for this too. Roof top pool was enjoyed a lot as was the free wifi in our room. Staff we met were friendly and pleasant. Breakfast buffet was fantastic. Huge array to choose from and the restaurant bar has great views of the city and the most gorgeous burgers. Rooms were always clean. Cannot fault this hotel at all. Hope to stay here again.

Good location just 5 minutes walk to Sants station and metri Tarragona or 10 minutes walk to Plaza de Espanya. I stayed in a room on the 6th floor and facing Montjuic so the view was beautiful. Quiet area in the evenings so whether you find its location as good or bad will depend on the purpose of your stay.

Driving towards the hotel we were quite surprised by the exterior of the hotel (concrete) and got a but worried! However once we were in the hotel we were completely relieved as it was very modern, clean etc.. Staff were very helpful and the bar stuff were very friendly. We stayed in a triple room, very basic but clean and cosy. Bathroom was clean and the room had a handy walk in wardrobe to store our clothes. We stayed for 5 nights and found the hotel very comfortable. The walls are thin in the hotel so if your next to people moving beds about and making loads of noise it can get irritating, however this only happened on one evening. Beautiful views from the terrace and lovely food at the restaurant. Always had sun beds available. 5 min walk from the metro and a 15min walk to the fountains. Perfect! The guided bus also stops at the station which comes in handy! I would definitely stay here again and recommend to others!

We stayed for three non-consecutive nights on a business trip. The major plus of Expo Hotel its proximity to the train station, as we traveled daily by train and its walking distance to other sites in Barcelona.
Breakfast buffet is generous, delicious and extremely diverse.
To add the very friendly staff, the spacious clean rooms.
Recommended.
