We stayed at Barcelo Sants for two nights at the end of May. As we continued our trip to Santa Susanna by train, the location of the hotel was perfect for us. Having read the earlier reviews here in Tripadvisor we thought that hotel had an entrance inside the station, but we could not find that. We were forced to go outside and find an entrance there. We arrived quite late in the evening and noticed there was a bit tense atmosphere around the Sants station. No one at the reception desk mentioned anything but soon we heard on TV news that there were massive demonstrations going on right outside Sants station and people were advised to avoid being outside at night time around that area. We thought this definitely should have been mentioned to all hotel guests at the reception desk upon arrival because for those guests who don’t understand Spanish it must have been very confusing to hear gun shots, yelling and sirens in the middle of the night.
The service during our check-in wasn’t particularly polite. We were asked if we wanted a twin room (which was already stated in our booking) and we said yes but arrived to a very small double room (or a single?). As we are two girls and we wanted a twin, we went back to the reception desk and never got even an apology! The second room was a twin and very nice in every way. All the amenities worked well and we loved especially the electrical curtains that ensured us to sleep well.
The hallways were very badly lightened and despite the space theme we would have been grateful to have a bit more light. Also air conditioning would be a must there. Now the hallways were stuffy and it felt a bit hard to breath in there.
Breakfast was amazing and there was something for everyone. Because of a dentist conference, the breakfast room was a bit too crowded and busy on both mornings we stayed there. We weren’t impressed by the Nespresso coffee served at the breakfast so we would have hoped to have some old fashioned normal black coffee there. Also there were times when the serving plates were empty and they were filled very slowly if at all.
As said in here earlier, the toilet in the room is not ideal for two people staying in the same room. The sliding door is paper thin and you can hear everything through it. It’s very nice to have two sinks and mirrors, but having them next to the bed is weird. It’s not nice to wash your hands in the middle of the night next to your friend sleeping and waking up to that.
If getting a reasonable price, we could stay in Barcelo Sants again. The location is quite handy and we personally prefer staying in a hotel located outside the very core of Barcelona (Ramblas, Plaza Catalunya…) Moving around the city is easy and also the train connection to the airport is very smooth.
