The hotel is in an excellent location, close to decent shopping and some good "non touristy" cafes and restaurants

The room was nice, clean, what you'd expect from a Ren, however a bit dated in styling. It could definitely use a facelift however its not "run down" by any means, simply dated in its styling in the rooms.

Breakfast is surprisingly good and lots of choices.

I found the staff to be very helpful and nice, no issues at all.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights prior to a Princess cruise (June 29-30). The hotel is very nice, modern, but the service in general was poor. There were several other pre-cruise guests that we spoke to later who had the same experience, so I guess they did not do reviews/reviews yet. The "restaurant" area on the ground level - you could die waiting for service, even just a cup of coffee. At least 15 minutes each time, and when we got up to ask the woman behind the bar sitting area, we were told to go back to our table, someone would get us coffee. And she was standing right in front of the coffee machine (both mornings) when we were told this. The biggest issue was the toilet in our room got clogged around lunch time of day 2, and we told them at the front desk - were told it would be taken care of. Well we returned to our room 10 pm, nothing had been done. Called downstairs, someone came up and he said he would be right back with someone else to fix it. 30 minutes later, never returned. Called front desk - oh, our maintenance people don't come back on duty until tomorrow morning. Really? Next morning - complained to a manager at front desk. Promised to put some points back in my husband's account, and to send someone right up to fix toilet. We went to breakfast - returned at 11:30 am to check out - you guessed it. Toilet still not working. This is a hotel that requires 40,000 points per night to stay there - and we had no working bathroom for almost 24 hours. Did I mention my husband is a Platinum Marriott rewards level? As for some points given back later, they tried to retract what they had told me at the front desk, so had to hassle with them to actually get the points back that they had promised. Also, taxi strike the day we left - and I heard from others that the front desk people could have cared less when guests were inquiring about getting to the ship departure area, etc. Someone needs to do some major customer service training.

It's what you need. Quiet dignity tastefully decorated. Perhaps a bit dark as far as rooms go, but definitely well maintained. Quality fixtures and beautiful marble floors. Many TV channels and music too! Good variety at breakfast but did not see it well used at other times.

Room Tip: Seems like any room would be quiet

We stayed here before boarding a cruise out of Barcelona. Smaller Renaissance Hotel located only blocks from the action but felt like you were more in a local neighborhood which was nice. Not in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Barcelona but a 5-10 minute walk put you right in the center of all the action!

Nice, modern property. Nice to have complimentary Wi-Fi in the lobby area. Nice sized bathrooms. The Navigators (concierge staff) were great in suggesting nearby neighborhood restaurants just a block or 2 from the hotel versus sending us to the very busy touristy spots. We were lucky to be able to check in when we arrived on an early morning flight from the US.

They have a nice rooftop terrace where we sat a few evenings to enjoy. There is a small grocery store right across the street where we bought some bottled waters and sodas (much cheaper) for our room fridge which came in handy.

The Navigators were also helpful as the day we were supposed to leave on the cruise, there was a taxi strike, and we were able to secure a transfer by shuttle bus to the port with other guests also trying to get to the port.

Overall, a great experience! We would stay here again.

I chose this hotel because of the location while in Barcelona. Good choice for the location. Our room was a superior room on a high floor and seemed to have everything we needed. The staff was friendly but there was something unusually impersonal about our service--as if there were staff everywhere but no one really ' in charge' of assuring guests were taken care of..

Busy, hip, modern hotel with great wi-fi and what would have been a decent breakfast buffet if not for the surly, poorly groomed and inattentive restaurant manager who all but scowled at each new couple arriving for breakfast. Tables were not cleared quickly enough, juices would be empty, not enough servers and the MUSIC. Ouch! If I wanted to have my morning coffee and breakfast at a bar in South Beach I am sure I could find one, but no one and I mean no one would want the music blasting that was playing every single morning throughout our meal. It was beyond offensive and I love pop music. There is just a time and a place and....a decent volume level.

So the restaurant for breakfast gets 1 star because I could barely survive and although it was warm they opted not to air condition that area of the hotel which was odd. The room gets 4 stars, maybe 4 minus if I could. No one came out to help with bags when we arrived. Ding for that, too. Rooftop bar is great and service up there was great. 5 stars. Bed comfort gets 5 stars. Bathroom looked great with lots of marble everywhere including floor to ceiling, but poorly designed tub surround leaked when showering and made for lots of a wet marble slip 'n slide--not good. I guess it was a mixed bag.

My first choice had been the W Hotel where I had reservations until I rethought my objectives which were to be right where I could walk to everything but not in the Gothic Quarter. I would choose a different hotel next time in Barcelona as this one did the job but missed the mark on too many counts.

We did have a great Friday evening at the bar downstairs with good food and great cocktails thanks to the terrific bartender (woman) who handled the crowd and her job extremely well.

You might get a good deal but keep looking. Worth the $$ I paid, but if you are traveling all the way to Barcelona from the U.S., find something nicer if you can. The breakfast alone is bringing back painful memories just typing this review!

Dear Sir,

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback and share your experience during your recent stay at Renaissance Barcelona Hotel.

Our location is indeed incredibly convenient, ideally located in the city center just one block away from Paseo de Gracia and minutes away from famous cultural and historical sites such as La Sagrada Familia.

Thank you also for the kind words about our ambassadors, we will definitely pass on your kind words to our bartender, we love to hear about the professional and friendly service she provided to you.

We very much regret learning you encountered an uncharacteristic number of issues resulting in a disappointing and unsatisfactory experience. We always hope to have the opportunity to address any customer concerns during their visit so we may have an opportunity to rectify them before departure. We take your experience at our hotel very seriously and we have passed this information on to the proper managers.

We hope to regain your trust and to have the opportunity to welcomimg you again in the future.

Spent two nights in this hotel with my girlfriend.

Good things:
-The navigator did a superb job recommending us restaurants and clubs.
-Breakfast was good, but the waitresses were a bit slow. The good thing about this is that it gives a good and calm atmosphere to eat your breakfast, since they don't rush around.
-The hotel bar and the terrace offers free Wifi, and are great places to chill after a long trip in the city.
-There is no such thing as a minibar, but the room has an empty fridge and there is a decent supermarket on the opposite side of the street.
-Good overall design. Pleases the eye.
-Good location.

Bad things:
-There were a few pee stains left on the toilet from the former user of the room. Makes you wonder how well they actually clean the rooms, but the stains were gone after the clean up the next day.
