“Good hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 August 2014

This hotel was very good a bus (L77) from terminal 2 straight to hotel but back only goes to terminal 1 and free airport transport to terminal 2. Receptionist speak excellent English and are very helpful, towels are provided for swimming pool which was very clean although a few more sun beds would have been nice. The kitchenette was adequate but we were only given 1 pan and 1 frying pan for cooking although there is a microwave. The rooms were cleaned and new towels provided every day. There is a supermarket close by and a tram stop nearby which costs 10.30 euros for 10 trips (1 trip into centre of Barcelona). I can highly recommend this hotel.

I would recommend anyone to read through reviews posted here by others, because you'll get a very good picture of what this hotel is like. I learned more than half of the things I needed to know beforehand just by reading reviews on Tripadvisor, but I'd like to share some that I fully only understood while there.

First of all, the noise isolation is really, really poor in rooms. It's not just neighboring rooms you'll hear but anyone walking the corridors. We were lucky enough that it was relatively quiet when we were there, but even so it was sometimes difficult to fall asleep.

In our room (booked for 1+2), I guess the expectation was that one of the kids would sleep on the living room sofabed. I took one look at it, and decided no way. It was old, looked quite uninviting and didn't feel comfortable even just sitting on it. Luckily the kids are still small so all of us just slept on the joined beds in the bedroom.

The breakfast is awesome, and most of the time if you compare room rates with- and without breakfast you'll see that it's fairly priced when "baked in" to the rate. What you don't get is omelettes, bacon, breakfast sausages or any of the other fatty foods. If that's what you prefer for breakfast, you might want to look elsewhere. However, the selection of cold cuts, pastries, fresh fruits and juices was tremendous. The breakfast room was never crowded when we were there, and the lone staffer was efficient in refilling any empty serving trays. Overall I'd give the breakfast a 4/5 stars. Breakfast was a bit later on weekends, but I believe the hours on all days were generous from something like 7...7:30 up to 11:30am.

In the evenings you can buy the hotel 3-course menu and eat in. We were told the price is 11.90, and in the lift it said 14.90. So I assume it's something along those lines. Some reviewers had complained of no food available on Sundays, but actually the hotel staff can assist in ordering pizzas, burgers etc. from a local Telepizza restaurant. Just ask the staff for the brochure, if your room doesn't have one. So checking in on Sunday you will not have to starve until Monday morning.

The room has a fridge and a minibar. Suffice to say, if your stingy then you'll fill your own fridge with drinks bought from the nearby Mercadona supermarket. On Sunday's it's closed but otherwise open until 9pm. Traveling with kids I truly loved being able to have snacks, water and other cold beverages in the fridge

The wi-fi signal was abysmal. I could barely get connected anywhere in the hotel at any hours of the day, whether it was our room, the lobby, breakfast area or pool. Granted, you *could* connect in all of those places so kudos for that. You won't be doing any business while there though, just your slow-paced basic surfing and emailing.

Cleaning staff and the hotel lobby staff were both very helpful. There's a lot of variation as to how much English they understand, but it didn't seem to deter them from trying to help. Checking in and -out was a breeze, as was getting us the utensils or get towels changed as needed.

The pool is small-ish, but nice. The opening hours are from 10am to 9pm, which I felt was unfortunate because I would've loved to get my early morning swims. I assume the reviewers that complained about the cold water are perhaps from U.S., because to me the temperature is exactly what you can expect from a non-heated pool. If you have very young kids, bring your flotation devices because the shallow end is 1.00m and the deep end was maybe 2.50...3.00m deep. Note that swimming mattresses were prohibited, but most smaller toys are OK.

The gym was old with ancient ellipticals and bikes but if you prefer free weights then you can manage just fine.

Finally, the location of this hotel cannot be emphasized enough. Sure, you can get to the hotel easily with L77, for which we found the stop at the airport T2 close to check-in desks 60-70. I used a bit of extra time to wander around looking for T10 vending machine, which turned out to be quite far away at the Renfe-station. From airport is the easy part of coming and going to the hotel.

The more difficult one is when you want to visit the city. It's simple to catch the T3, then switch to L3 but it will take you more than 1 hour each way. Rack up those lost hours for your stay, and you might just have spent an entire just commuting. You can try using buses, but while you might save a few steps you won't be saving any time.

If you need quick access to the city, but don't want to pay downtown prices then look for a hotel that's within walking distance from a subway station.

For me the pros of Hesperia Sant Joan far outweighed the cons, and depending on the kind of trip I was planning I might stay there again. The hotel has an atmosphere of an old business-hotel, but I would say this is better for family and solo travellers, not so much for business or anyone that likes the bustle of big city and its nightlife.

We were amazed at the size of the rooms and value for money, the rooms are cleaned to a high standard and staff are great very helpful. Even tho the hotel is a little distance from the center the transport links are so good it doesnt make much difference, there are local shops restaurants and bars and also a supermarket. Would def return

It was overall a pleasant stay! Friendly staffs, Clean room and kitchen. There was a direct bus from airport to the hotel (about 30 mins) so wouldn't complain about the location. Great value for money!

We were there from 4~9 July .at the first we faced with a nice girl as a reception ,but anfortunatly due to long distance to the city centre and getting crowded metro, we have lost our passport in subway(stolen),then when we wanted another reception ,look like old woman ,to scan police report to mail for embassy ,she told us that it would be charged 2.5 euro and also never ask us about our situation .
But at the check out time again the nice girl help us to print our booked ticket to get Madrid to go embassy.
Conclusion:
1-Far away from city centre and get tired to go and back city centre about 1 hour.
2-cheap behavior with customers same as business company.
3- to visit Barcelona city as 24 h live city ,the hotel should be near city centre to avoid getting tired in come back to hotel.
3- some of reception have unlikely behavior.

We have stayed there for three nights.
- The suits were very noisy, because the is no carpet in and outside the suits.
- The ceiling were dripping water!
- The wireless internet was terrible.
- They didn't give us a double bed although we had booked 2 month before! Seems the number of double beds are very limited.
- The place is way out of the town!
- The area is not feeling safe specially after 11 pm.
