This is a basic 3 or 4 star hotel. Nothing great about it. However, it serves the purpose for delegates attending the Barcelona conference centre. It is a pleasant 10 minute walk from the hotel.
The rooms are clean, and tidy. Free internet (via a cable present in the room).
The staff were very helpful (did a fair amount of photocopying for me free of charge). So for a short business trip, a decent hotel.

The location is great if you have an ocean view. The rooms were large and nice bathrooms. The TVs were very small and old. Great location for walking along the ocean.

The beds were large, but very hard. Had a difficult time getting a good nights sleep.

No free internet plus kept getting booted off of it while the minutes were being used up. Complain to get a refund.

Stayed again at the Hesperia del Mar in Barcelona because no other hotel near the congress centre had rooms available.
Sadly found my earlier impressions reinforced. Worst was that they put me in a plain stinking smokers room with the simple excuse that they had no other. Reservation for non-smoking ignored.
Rather noisy corner of the city, so opening the windows for fresh air doesn't improve sleeping.
Decent breakfast, moderately decent service.
A survivable hotel, but nothing to look forward to.
A hint: For dinner go out to the avenida and then towards the city until you hit the Ramblas Pobre Nous. Nice restaurants there.

Was there on business for a week and stayed at this hotel which was about 15 mins' walk from my office. Despite that, if you are a tourist, you might find this hotel quite convenient since it's just 5 mins away from the beach and there's a direct bus to Placa Catalunya just outside on the main road. That is also where the Touristic Bus green route stops at (only operates in summer though) so it's easy for you to hop on instead of heading to the city centre.

I don't speak Spanish nor Catalan so it was rather difficult to communicate with the staff there. The young lady at the front desk was quite friendly and accomodating but the other was kinda aloof and could hardly manage a full English sentence. It was worse when it came to the housekeeping staff because on the first day I checked in, I had some problems with my room and sought their help but they didn't understand what I want and I had no idea what they were saying. It was frustrating to say the least.

As for the room, it was fine for one person but it was too bad that I got a room which faced the street rather than the sea. With regard to breakfast, it was passable but there weren't a lot of variations on a daily basis. Imagine eating almost the same thing for 7 straight days! If not for the fact that I had to rush to the office in the morning, I might have gone elsewhere for my breakfast. I wonder why but the restaurant and bar were closed at night during the week I was there so I had no way of trying their dinner which they mentioned on their website.

If you are looking for a no-frills hotel which is near the beach, I think this might be suitable. Otherwise, you might be better-off looking for somewhere else.

The Hotel is conveniently located, not far for the metro station and just across the road from the beach.

The services are very limited and I do not see where they can rate this hotel as 4*, 3* would suit it better. There is no restaurant, the bar was closed, the outdoor area for breakfast closed, no outdoor area to relax or enjoy the nice weather. Internet wifi is only in the lobby and the lobby area is not very welcoming and had very limited seating area so you wont spend hours there surfing the internet.

The room is small and dated, looks like a hospital room, the air conditioning was not working very well, old Tv set, bed was big but very uncomfortable (we could feel the springs). No iron or iron table, no tea or coffee in the room. We had no space to put our luggage either.

Overall, I feel that this hotel is a bit overpriced for what it is. Good location but we would not be staying there again.

My boyfriend and I stayed in Hesperia Del Mar for 5 nights. It's a nice 4 star hotel, not too luxurious and pretentious, but elegant and friendly.
We arrived at Barcelona airport (El prat) at about 10 in the morning. We then took a taxi which can be found just in front of the airport entrance. The driver knew where the hotel is located and in 25 minutes we arrived in front of the hotel. The taxi ride costs 25 euro. You can also reach the hotel by using the AeroBus shuttle service to Plaza Catalunya, and then take the metro to station Poblenou on line L4. The line L4 does not stop directly at Plaza Catalunya, so you can either go 5 minutes north of the piazza on foot, figure out the metro changes. The shuttle costs 5.35 euro, one way. The metro costs 2 euros per ride, but you can by a 10-ticket carnet for 9 euro (so much cheaper). From Poblenou station you can reach the hotel on foot in 10 minutes.

The check in starts at 2pm, but you can leave your luggage at the hotel and go to the beach. We changed the clothes in the hotel toilet and went to the beach which takes 5-10 minutes on foot. The hotel staff is very nice, they speak english perfectly and some of them speak Italian too. Our room was at the 4th floor. The bed was pretty comfy (with 3 pillows). There is a desk, a TV and a minibar.
The size of the wardrobe was enough to place 2 small pieces of baggage full of stuff inside. It also contains a little safe. Bathroom is large with a bathtub, hair-dryer and some small gadgets (sponge, toothbrush, shower cap, soap). The room is small, but clean and sound-proof. The breakfast costs 13 euro per person, but we preferred to eat at other places.

Next to the hotel there are some places where you can eat for a good price (kebab, grilled chicken with rice, tapas). There is also a bank and a couple of groceries stores. A supermarket is found just south of the Poblenou metro station. There is a pharmacy just next to the hotel.

The area is pretty cool and quiet. You can see a lot of people walking around, skating or biking which looks fun! The beach is good, clean and supervised by the police; there is some fitness equipment and showers. Of course there are lots of bars, restaurants and clubs, you have lots of choices!

Overall, it was a positive experience, we really enjoyed our holiday in Hesperia Del Mar. However, the last night, we were woken up by the fire alarm. Luckily there wasn't a real fire, but some [--] was smoking in the hotel...

Last tip: the water in Barcelona is not good, it tastes like chlorine, so buy some bottles of mineral water as soon as you can!
