“Very basic, but great location, modern and clean”
Reviewed 3 September 2013

The hotel claims to be 4 star and what it provides is almost a 4 star standard; the problem is all it provides is a room. There is no swimming pool, only a few rooms have balconies (which I think are an extra charge), no bar as there was a notice saying the bar and restaurant were shut for the duration of our stay, and the rooms themselves were on the small side. The wifi was only in the lobby which only had about 6 small tables to sit at when using it.
On the plus side, the staff were lovely and were very helpful with booking excursions and giving travel advice etc.
The location was great as the beach was about a 5-10 minute walk and was across the main road. Port Olympic was about a 15minute walk and had a variety of nice restaurants. There is a small-ish supermarket in a 5min walk. Train station 5-10min walk. Bus stop into Las Rambla right outside the hotel.

To sum up- the location is great, however the lack of facilities within the hotel lets the hotel down. Even the television wasn't much entertainment as all the English channels had Spanish voice overs on. The tv was in hotel mode therefore I wasn't able to manage any settings to try and change that. And the man at reception didnt know either.
If youre looking for a hotel purely for sleeping in then this hotel is good. However, if you like a bar or games room or just an area for socialising within the hotel, then this isn't for you.

My fiancée and I have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Hesperia Del Marcia.

We were very impressed with the hotel. It was exactly as advertised, the room looked exactly as it did in the pictures on the website and the staff were friendly, helpful and spoke good English. We hadn't been to Barcelona before and felt we were well positioned to go out and see what the city had to offer whilst also having a relaxing beach-side holiday. Most of the complaints about this hotel seem to generally stem from the fact that the people staying there hadn't actually done any research about the hotel before they booked, or indeed looked where it is on a map.

Some people have commented that the hotel is located far away from the centre of Barcelona. Whilst this is true, we actually enjoyed our stay even more as a result of being away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre (and the pickpockets!). The hotel is located less than 5 minutes walk from a fantastic beach where we went on a couple of occasions to enjoy the fine Barcelona weather and a dip in the Med.

There is a pharmacy and 2 bars located within 50 yards of the hotel which were both great for food and drink and reasonably priced. A five minute walk away you can find Rambla del Pabladou. This is a long pedestrianized street consisting of shops, banks and approximately 20-30 bars and restaurants.

It's very easy to get into the city centre from the hotel. There is a stop right next to the hotel for the 41 bus. The bus is very regular (we never waited more than 5 minutes) and takes 20-25 minutes to get you to Las Ramblas. The bus is air conditioned and costs 2 Euros per person for a trip. However, you can buy a 10 ticket pass for less than 10 Euros which we did and covered our transport for the duration of the holiday. You can use this ticket on buses and metrolink.

Top Tips:

Whilst it is true that you can only access the Wi-Fi in the lobby, our room was on the 1st floor and we could still access the Wi-Fi so, if this is particularly important to you, it might be worth asking for a room on that floor.

There is a Mercadonna supermarket nearby that was far cheaper than any of the smaller shops we went in (and the mini bar!) for drinks and snacks. It's worth asking for directions at reception if you're looking to save a bit of money during your stay.

Parc De La Ciutadella is a very nice place to walk through. The harbour at the bottom of La Ramblas is also quite nice for a wander/drink by the sea.

We got a taxi from the hotel to and from the airport. It cost 35 Euros each way which is perhaps something to take into consideration when booking.

We found the hotel modern, clean and comfortable, the breakfast buffet was lovely with eggs etc cooked on demand not kept warm under a light as so often is the case. The staff were helpful, efficient and very polite.

We chose the hotel as it seemed like a good option for our city break. It is close to the beach which was lovely for an early morning stroll. The bus to the city centre stops right outside and the metro is five minutes walk away. We brought a ticket for nine euros which allowed us ten trips on the transport services (five each but it can be for as many people as you like!). This was excellent value for money.

I would recommend the hotel as a convenient and comfortable place.

I really liked my stay. The Hotel is especially great if you want to use the beach. If you came for sightseeing, be prepared to spend 30 minutes untli you are in the City center (bus or walk+Metro). Friendly staff. The room service is sometimes a bit late, and if you don't pay attention, your romm might be "forgotten". But that's not a real issue - I can recommend the hotel, would stay there again.

There are 4 stars on the outside of this hotel. At least one, if not two should be removed. The "business center" consists of an old, slow, not upgraded computer that is barely breathing. WiFi is only available in the lobby, not in your room. You are given one bar of soap which doesn't last for two people. It's great soap, but disappears quickly. The fire exit was blocked by a table from the restaurant loaded with salt & pepper, glasses, silverware, etc. When I asked reception to remove the table for safety reasons, they told me it was a "staff" area. Everything was clear marked as being the main fire exit. It was the only way out without passing through the below-ground lobby. We were here 4 nights. I wouldn't pick this place again.

Room Tip: Avoid street-side. Lots of traffic going to the beach.

My friend and I stayed for one night after a cruise. The hotel was lovely, the room big and comfortable and the breakfast excellent, cooked as required. We were allowed to keep the room until 4pm. the next day. The staff at reception were polite and helpful. It took two buses from there to Las Ramblas, 2 euros each way. The bus stop was right outside hotel. I would stay there again if necessary. Good location just across from beach

A small group of us stayed in this hotel for 2 nights at the end of April 2013. The hotel itself is very pleasant and clean and the staff are very helpful. Although we booked the room on a room only basis, we did upgrade to breakfast for an additional 11 Euro per person per night. However, while breakfast was enjoyable, there are a number of bar/restaurants within 100 metres that serve a more substantial breakfast at a lower price. The hotel is a good 40 minute walk to the Ramblas but it is on the main bus route and one of the Barcelona City Sightseeing routes also stops outside the hotel. The nearest Metro underground station (Pobelnou) is a 10 minute walk away. The beach is literally a 2-3 minute walk across the road and a fairground is located about a 15 minute walk along the beach. The only drawback with this hotel is the location. It costs about 10 Euro each way from the hotel to the Ramblas so if you factor this into your hotel costs, you may get a more centrally located hotel if a city break is what you are after. I would certainly stay here if I wanted a break that gave me the best of a beach location and access to the city is incidental but not if I wanted a city break.

Room Tip: Most rooms in the hotel have a sea view but there are no balconies/terraces. The location of the hot...
