Very nice and clean facility, good central location, very helpful and courteous staff. Spacious room and bathroom. Interior rooms facing the courtyard are quieter. Staff speaks good English. Helped us with sightseeing ideas and tickets. Would stay there again.

Room Tip: Interior rooms are quieter

We checked in to the Condes De Barcelona on Friday, October 18, 2013 for two nights prior to our cruise. First problem was when we arrived there after a very long, overnight flight, the taxi driver asked us which building we were staying in. There are two parts to the hotel right across the street from each other and we had no idea which one we were staying in. So we got out at one and went inside (no one met us at the curb), four large suitcases in tow. Once inside, we were met by someone who told us we needed to be at the other building, and left us there with no offer to help us with our luggage. So we schlepped our stuff across the street and checked in. Our reservation said we had breakfast included, so when we inquired as to where that would be, we were told we did not have breakfast included, even though I had an email confirmation from our travel agent. We were too tired to question it further so we went right up to our room. I had emailed the hotel a few weeks prior to our arrival, requesting an early check-in because we knew we would be tired after a long flight. I had also requested a quiet room because I had read here on TripAdvisor that some rooms can be noisy. We were happy that they honored our requests and we went up to our room on the seventh (top) floor.
The room was an 'Executive' room which means we paid more money for a bigger room. It was a nice room with a nice sized bathroom. However, as we were getting settled, I noticed that the glasses that were upside down on a tray with a coffee maker had about two inches of dust on them. I decided not to complain about it because I was pretty sure the whole hotel was probably just as dirty and we were tired and too excited about being in Barcelona and our upcoming cruise to let that bother us too much. I decided not to look too closely at anything else. The next problem came at night. As I mentioned, we were on the top floor because I had requested a quiet room. However, they neglected to tell us that the bar that was on the roof of the hotel was open until the early morning hours and that there would be a LOT of noise. It was horrible - kept us awake until about 3 am both nights. There were chairs scraping and thumping all night long. If that was their quietest room, I hate to see what the noisy rooms are like! Unfortunately I started our cruise exhausted from an overnight flight and then two nights of almost no sleep. We loved Barcelona, and if we ever go back, we will be staying somewhere else!

I stayed in the part of the hotel that is lower down Paseig de Gracia, perhaps the other side is better. The hotel's location is obviously fantastic, no doubt about that whatsoever. The room however (751) was way, way below 4* standard. Double bed was 2 singles stuck together but not with double linen. Curtains half off their track so couldn't be closed. TV and every fitting was hanging half out of the wall. Furniture (drawers, surfaces, chairs etc) were beyond washing or repair. Bathroom was better but still mouldy and shower attachment designed for people not over 1m tall. On the bright side the terrace was enormous and had great views. Breakfast was OK but cramped and there was nowhere else in that part of the building to get coffee, for which you cross the road to the other part which seemed a bit better.
You can definitely find far more charming, comfortable and cared-about places very nearby.

Room Tip: if you really have to stay here I advise you to avoid room 751 (unless there's a renovation)

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Condes de Barcelona. The location truly is fabulous, as you have easy access to shops, restaurants, the metro, and the bus. It's an easy walk to Las Ramblas, as well as to the Barri Gothic, El Born, and Gracia sections of the city. We stayed in the original building and found our room to be spacious and clean. The bathroom showed its age, with cracked porcelain and stained grout in the tub/shower, but there was plenty of counter space.

During our first three days at the hotel, the service was not what I expected from the staff of a four-star hotel, largely due to the harried reception staff (who also served as the concierge). No matter which employee we approached, they seemed impatient with our questions and provided vague answers. We had asked rather typical, tourist type questions but didn't get specific answers. However, on our last full day there, the gentleman at the desk (whose name I unfortunately don't remember), was immensely helpful and provided thorough, detailed answers (i.e. the exact bus number to take to Park Guell and the location of the bus stop).

I would recommend the hotel primarily due to its location and its comfortable, spacious rooms. The rooftop terrace on the building across the street was also lovely, with beautiful views of Casa Mila and the Passeig de Gracia. Drinks are overpriced, in my opinion, but the views are wonderful.

Room Tip: Rooms on a higher floor, facing the side street (not Passeig de Gracia), are quiet and enjoy the mor...

This was our first visit to Barcelona and we chose the hotel based on location and a recommendation. We chose well!
The location was perfect-- we could walk to most major sites and areas. The rooms were spotless. Staff was helpful. Considering the location, we thought the room rates were very good.
As other reviewers wrote, the view from the rooftop terrace was an added bonus.
Additionally, if you have the time (and $$$), eat at the hotel restaurant (reserve in advance) -Lasarte for a gastronomic treat!

The best parts of this hotel were its location and the remote control black out shades! The room was large and modern. The bathroom and shower (no bathtub) were spacious with plenty of counter space. The hotel was very clean and brightly lit. The staff was extremely helpful and spoke English very well. I would definitely recommend this hotel. If you care about the fitness center, please note that the treadmill was broken and the television could only broadcast one channel.
