My girlfriend and I had originally planned a trip to the Universal Hotel in March but were unable to travel. We were able to rebook our flights for Easter weekend but on checking the hotels website the rooms were more expensive than the weekend we had originally booked for. After emailing the hotel to explain our circumstances they were very accommodating and honoured the rate that we had agreed for our initial trip. This was fantastic as it cost quite a bit to get the flights changed and would not have been feasible to pay more for the hotel. On arriving at the hotel we were amazed at how close it was to the metro station, literally right outside the door. The hotel itself is very modern inside, clean, cool and professional. Our room was very well laid out and the little touches such as a shaving kit and dental kit showed that a lot of thought went into the service provided. The rooftop pool was amazing and the view from the roof is just something else, we could have spent a day up there quite easily. We didn't eat in the hotel as we wanted to experience authentic Barcelona food so cannot comment on the food but we had a few drinks in the bar each night before going out and it is 5 star. One thing that summed up the Universal Hotel was when I approached reception as I was having trouble printing tickets that I had pre booked for the Camp Nou Experience (no need to pre book as they have to be printed out at cash machines that don't work. Just buy tickets at the stadium itself). The man at reception let me log onto my emails to print out the confirmation, he even phoned up the ticket providers to try and sort things out. In the end we were able to get tickets at the stadium using the email confirmation and it just shows that the staff really do go the extra mile. I would really recommend this hotel for anyone travelling to Barcelona as it is great value and anyone that stays will not be disappointed.

Just returned today from a weekend break here. Booked it after looking at reviews on here and got a really good B&B rate with Travel Republic. Location is excellent, metro right outside and 10 min walk to Las Rambla. Rooms are good size, plenty of wardrobe space, no tea and coffee making though. Bathrooms spacious kitted out in marble and with a small selection of toiletries. The hotel and rooms are modern in design, clean and well cared for. Reception staff very efficient and helpful. Breakfast very good. Hotel bar is quite small (in the lobby) and a few times the barman wasn't there so there was a bit of a wait to get served - we gave up on one occasion. I had requested a room that was quiet and on a high floor but we were put on the third floor on the front of the hotel - as soon as we got to the room I phoned down to ask to move as I knew there was no way I could sleep with such a loud road so close, I phoned down to reception straight away and they moved us to the rear of the building within 10 minutes - yes, the view isn't great at the back but it suited us better. All in all, a superb hotel that you must consider for a Barca short break. Can highly recommend.

Room Tip: A room at the rear if you want peace and quiet but view not great.

We stayed in the hotel for 5 nights in March and found the hotel to be exactly what we had expected after reading all the reviews. The metro stop is just outside the door, which made getting around very easy.
We had asked for a higher up room after reading the reviews and it was worth it as we stayed in the 7th floor.
We did not eat breakfast in the hotel as the cafes outside were half the price for a huge breakfast which also served us for lunch.
The walk to the port goes by very quickly and we really felt we had picked the best area to stay in.
We ate in the restaurant on our last night and it was really good. If we had known earlier in the week we would have used it more!
The bar downstairs is tiny and not always staffed if quiet but much safer if you are nervous sitting outside at night.
The only downside is because of the wooden floors we could hear people walking around in their rooms!
We went to Camp Nou for a match and it was only 4 stops and a 10 minute walk on the metro.
We will definitely be back!

We picked this hotel because of its location. The fact that a metro is so very close made me book here. We came from the airport here using the metro so this saved us lots of extras on taxis etc.

I remember I booked through a website company which I can’t remember now the name and as always I considered Breakfast in the booking…or at least I thought!! I found it a bit tricky this time, and although the papers before booking showed that breakfast is included, this did not appear on the paper I got but of course this was not a problem with the hotel but the booking company. You see for us it is important that breakfast is included!

We had our breakfast the first morning but the second day we were asked to pay. I considered it too pricy and we decided to have breakfast out. No much trouble, instead we enjoyed it even more. In the neighbourhood there are lots and lots of breakfast little shops with a fourth of what the hotel was asking us to pay, and with a descent breakfast and service as well. So this was not a problem at all….only a little disappointing as I was shocked when I found out that ours was not included in the price when we booked.
If you notice a big difference in the price when booking with breakfast included, prefer to book just the room. You will save much if you eat your breakfast out especially if the days are sunny and beautiful.

We had room #806 overlooking the main road, it was clean and comfy, bed moderately comfortable, and bath clean and descent, but we did not spend much time in as most of the times we were out sight-seeing. The staff was helpful all right.
I would gladly return here, although the view from the main road is not the best.

Easy walk to the Ramblas and other popular sites in the city, conveniently located with a Metro stop (Paral.lel Station that connects with the Funicular de la Montjuic) right out the front door. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Funicular_de_Montjuïc
Hotel staff recommended some excellent restaurants. Rooftop pool was tempting, but the weather was a bit cool. Look forward to taking a dip when we return to Barcelona this sumer.

Just returned from a 5 day stay and was really pleased with this hotel. True it is not in the middle of where it is happening, which can be an advantage, less noise and bustle the minute you step out on to the street. However there is a metro right outside the main door, numerous buses and so much within a 10 minute walk ~ check it out on google. Also, the building fascade is nondescript, but step inside and you find a welcoming greeting, friendly and efficient staff. Our room was of adequate size, in good condition and very clean and comfortable, although it did look on to an inside courtyard, which made the room a bit dull and gauging the weather a mild nuisance. We took the the breakfast deal and were so glad ~ wide variety and very efficiently run. The pool is really of the 'cool down' variety but I'm sure a welcomed advantage when the weather starts heating up and the sundeck, with super views, is a lovely place for a bit of R & R. All in all the standard of service together with an excellent price far out weighed the more glamorous or trendy hotels set in and around Las Ramblas.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that doesn't look into the courtyard. Remember no tea and coffee facilities. Br...

Our family stayed at this hotel from April 4-8. We had a suite and regular room on the 9th floor overlooking their sign and had a huge balcony. The view was fantastic. The rooms were clean and spacious. Their cleaning staff was very efficient and barely noticeable.

However, the front desk staff really made our stay amazing. As we had never been to Barcelona, they provided us with recommendations for restaurants, tickets, attractions and even had a large taxi at 5:30 in the morning to take our family to the airport when we left. They were friendly and fully fluent in English. The best part was that they were friendly and took their time to explain things and give directions. Customer service was five star. Thank you so much for making this part of our vacation stress free.
