I would highly recommend the Barcelona Universal Hotel. I is a recently remodeled hotel located within real walking distance to "Las Ramblas" and the seaport. It also happens to be in the heart of the theater district. The rooms were new, modern, fresh and spacious. The hotel was quiet. The staff was extremely helpful with all of our questions and needs. There are plenty of restaurants and sidewalk cafes near and around the hotel. There is a Metro Stop directly in front of the hotel which adds to the convenience. As far as the rates are concerned, I found them to be very reasonable. I stayed at the hotel for five days in late May 2013. All in all great Hotel, great value, in a great location.

Not the cheapest hotel, but certainly very comfortable, in a great location, and a short walking distance from all the local attractions. There are numerous supermarkets nearby. Breakfast is more than adequate since it's a buffet and you can choose from a wide selection of foods. The bedroom was more than ample with ensuite, TV, safe, hairdryer etc. The only thing Iwe really missed was a kettle and coffee... There was a fridge with the usual beverages in it, but no hospitality tray with the usual tea/coffee cups etc... Towels were supplied and so were hospitality soaps/shampoo/shower-wash etc.

Room Tip: Barcelona is not a quiet city, but the double-glazing is very good. I would think all rooms were pre...

The hotel is approximately 15 minutes walk from the beach and 10 minutes from La Rambla, but with a metro station literally outside the hotel and several bus stops within 100 yards it was far easier to use public transport to get around. Our room was quite small but spotlessly clean and the air con made sure it was always wonderfully cool when we came back to the room. Breakfast was very good with quite a varied selection of food on offer. We only went up to the rooftop terrace once during our stay and it was very busy but still a nice option to have. This was our first visit to Barcelona but we loved everything about the city and would have no hesitation in staying at this hotel again.

We got a nice surprice when checking in at this hotel. Standard rooms by hotels.com = large suite with own balcony. Large clean room. Nice roof top solarium + small pool for a quck refresh.

Underground station just outside the front door. Walking distance to Las Ramblas.

Room Tip: Book trough hotels.com and get a spacious standard room.

Hotel Barcelona Universal

In other words, we found this hotel clean and well situated. Mostly well situated. Walk out the door and stairs to the Metro. Clean Metro. When you book this hotel ask for the back or the center. Unless you like noise and sirens, stay in front.. Try to be more over the fifth floor because of the shaking from the Metro. The breakfast buffet is very good and well appreciated. Don't ever ask the staff any information on restaurants just go by yourself just around the corner for a quick lunch with cool beer or take the 2 floor red bus for 2 days and just go around, but stop at this place called Le Salamanca. It s on the beautiful beach not far from the hotel. The hotel has a small but useful pool, very clean and cool when it s 40c also has long chairs and a small room with fitness machine, forget about those, lift your luggage, its better. Finally the hotel is on the best street of Barcelona, near the port near the center near everything. But please ask them to smile, they wont crack.

This hotel should be perfect as it's location is great, it is clean, the staff are extremely helpful and friendly and the breakfast was more than adequate. However we were only staying for 3 nights and after a rather late night the first night had not realised that one window was opaque and after opening it into a courtyard area which had a closed in roof it felt very claustrophobic and dark, not what you want in a sunny City. Our bathroom window, also opaque would not open, fixed shut so we felt like we were in a prison cell in our room which we hated and due to our short stay decided to just put up with it as we were out most of the day. You want to wake up in the morning and look out to see what the weather is doing. The room itself was large, clean, beautifully furnished, large lovely bathroom. I would say the beds could be improved upon as they were rather hard and uncomfortable. I would recommend this hotel but check your room before you settle in or make sure you book one with a view.

Room Tip: Some rooms have no clear windows, so ask first.

This hotel was just perfect. Location was a ten minute walk to Las Ramblas. Local bus stop across the street and metro stop on the corner. Staff was wonderful and room was really nice. Breakfast served in morning quite adequate. Rooftop pool was added bonus. Would stay here again. Internet access provided and computer available in lobby.

Room Tip: Had a corner room which was a bit larger than regular.
