“Great hotel in good location”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

I stayed for 4 nights with my husband and my 15 year old step daughter.
We had a triple room which was very spacious and also had a sliding door which provided privacy between the twin room and the very comfortable sofa bed. This was ideal for a 15 year old to have some privacy whilst sharing with adults, we were very impressed. The room was very clean and modern.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
The location is great,5 minute walk to Port Vel and not much further to the beach. Las Rambas is about a 10 minute walk away and Montjuic also very close.
We walked everywhere however for those who choose not to the Metro station is right outside of the hotel.

Room Tip: If you want a big room, book a triple.

The location is second to none. You get out of the hotel and go straight to the Metro (no kidding, just a few steps from the main entrance) or if you prefer you can take a walk to "Las Ramblas" which is next to the gothic side of the city.
Overall the hotel was very good, rooms are very nice (although a little bit on the dark side). Only thing we noticed was a particular smell all around the halls (smoky like).
The staff is very professional and helpful. We ended up having a great experience in our visit to Barcelona in big part thanks to this place.
Breakfast was very good, with a great variety in the buffet. Some of the things they had seemed of actually felt a little bit heavy to the stomach, but overall it was good.

Although this hotel could not be said to be in the heart of the city, it is right on the fringe and very close to some good attractions. The main beach is close, about 30 min walk, as are the markets and the Gondala , my advise is to walk up the hill and get this ride at that end 11 euro one way, starts at 11am - a good experience. If you are looking for a crusty roll with a filling go to cafe 365, about 200m below the hotel- excellent.
The hotel room, we had 318, is of a good size so is the bathroom which has an excellent heated towel rail for drying clothes. We did not eat at the hotel so cannot comment, however, the pool area on level 10 is excellent.
I can recommend this hotel with confidence. Reception staff were first class.

My new wife and I visited the Universal Hotel for a four day break just after our wedding. The hotel was really well located, right outside the subway and around the corner from many of Barcelona's attractions, including a 10 minute walk to either Las Ramblas or the seafront port and marina. The room was modern and clean and there is a lovely pool on the rooftop with a new bar so guests can enjoy cocktails while they relax! What really makes the hotel is the really friendly staff, everyone was helpful and accommodating and I wasn't judged for my truly terrible grasp of Spanish! The free wi-fi also helped keep travel mobile costs down! There are some lovely tapas bars close by and supermarkets for essentials just up the road. We would definitely recommend this hotel to others looking for somewhere nice to stay and we would stay again if we came back to Barcelona.

Room Tip: We had a room on the 8th floor and even though it was on the side of the road there was little to no...

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights for our wedding anniversary and we were really impressed.

The hotel was clean and well-maintained and the staff were all extremely polite and friendly. The staff on reception were happy to help when we had any enquiries and they also booked restaurants for us on a couple of occasions.

The breakfast buffet had a very reasonable selection of food and the food was fresh and the staff were polite.

The location of the hotel is really convenient for all of the main tourist attractions, as it is a 5-10 minute walk from Las Ramblas and 10-15 minutes to the port and beach. It is also right next to Paral-lel subway station which makes it really easy to get across the city.

We booked the hotel through a third party website and got an excellent deal, very reasonably priced considering the quality of the hotel.

Our room was at the back of the hotel and overlooked residential buildings, but the room still had plenty of sunlight and fresh air.

There is a small pool on the roof of the hotel and a solarium/sun deck. It is a little oasis in the middle of the busy city and well worth spending a little while up there, soaking up the sun and taking in the views.

We would definitely stay at this hotel again.
