Thanks to all the staff at the Universal-------super friendly and helpful. Rooms cleaned and beds made every day----and clean towels. Great beds. Spotless modern bathroom. Great air-con. Breakfast was a feast. Ten minute walk to the Ramblas. One minute to metro. Great bar two minutes away-----in an old sweet shop----had a couple of great nights in there.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front.

This hotel is in a good location with a train station a short distance away. The bed was very comfortable and thr amenities good. There are lots of eateries close by for breakfast and dinner. The hotel is close walking distance to La Ramblas but far enough away that it is very quiet at night. The staff were helpful, especially Carlos who went out of his way to get us on a shuttlento the airportnwhen the taxi drivers went out on strike the day we were leaving. I would stay here again.

My daughter and I had a lovely long weekend break here and could not fault the service or cleanliness at all. All the staff working at reception were friendly, helpful, and couldn't do enough for you. The guy who checked us in went through all he best things to do on a short break - he was spot on! Our room was at the back, so it was quiet, but it was overlooked by rough looking apartments which meant we had to keep our curtains closed most of the time. Be warned it you buy something small like tea at the pool bar, you'll get hit with a disproportionate surcharge if you charge it to your room instead of cash. The pool is much smaller than it looks on the hotel photo - it's really a dipping pool and there's no air conditioning in the tiny gym. If you want tea or coffee in your room, don't forget a travel kettle. The breakfast is good value for money if you add it to your booking in advance. La Ramblas is only about 10 minutes walk away. Plan your meals via TripAdvisor - don't eat at the restaurants on Avenida Paral-lel as they're noisy, dusty and not great quality or value. All in all, I'd go again but would ask for a different room, take a kettle and pay cash for drinks at the pool bar.

Dear Customer;

Thanks for sharing your opinion with us and other guests, I disagree with the comment that out prices are different at the bar paying in cash or charging it on your bill room, prices are totally the same. Anyway please check the prices we have for diiferent services at the Hotel in order not to be confuse.

Thanks for your review and thank you very much about your comments about the staff.
Yours sincerely,

A wonderful hotel, the staff is very friendly, the room was spacious, modern and clean, the bed was comfortable, the breakfast was ok. The rooftop view was stunning.
The metro station Paral.lel is right in front of the hotel and it's close to the city and also the beaches. It's near La Rambla (10 min walk) and the port, and there are various restaurants, cafes, shops nearby.
Would definitely recommend it and I would love to stay there again.

Great hotel. Room are a good size and beds are very large. We booked a anniversary package and got free breakfast, bubbly and a large chocolate cake. Staff we helpful and rooms clean.
Would stay here again. If you want to be on the main strip this hotel is a good 10 min's walk away but its a nice stroll and you have many ways to get there so you end up seeing more of the city.
Roof top pool great to have a hour at the end of a day site seeing. Amazing views from the top and our room.
Ask for a north facing room for best views.

Room Tip: north facing room and floor 8 and above for a view

The best part of this hotel is that the subway is 20 steps out the door. There are a lot of options in terms of food, cafes, groceries within a block of the hotel. It's on a main street, so you do get a lot of street noise all the time even on the upper floors. The rooftop area is very nice and you can see the whole city all the way to the mountains and the beach. The staff was not overly helpful, but they got the job done. We requested a double bed and got 2 twin beds, but otherwise, the rooms were fine. You can walk to Las Ramblas in about 15 minutes or take the subway in about 5.

Just returned from a 4 night stay at this hotel with my husband and 2 year old daughter. We were given a larger room as there were 3 of us. Room 303 (3rd floor), facing the front of the hotel. It had a travel cot and 2 double beds pushed together. The room was of a decent size for 3 adults and a child.

After reading reviews on trip advisor I was worried about the noise from outside. The hotel is on a main busy road, so I asked for a higher floor when we checked in however we were told by reception the higher floors would have smaller rooms, so we accepted the allocated room. You could hear the traffic and people walking past late into the night. It was particularly bad one night with the sound of crashing glass bottles when someone decided to use the bottle bank which is right outside the hotel, at 2am!

Front desk staff were always friendly and helpful. The hotel is clean and modern in decor. Rooms are cleaned everyday and bedsheets are changed everyday with a good amount of clean towels replaced each day.

Breakfast was ok, although it was exactly the same everyday. I did enjoy the scrambed eggs with toast and the chocolate croissants were delicious. They had cereals, fresh fruit, fresh orange juice, selection of cold meats and cheese, and a selection of pastries and cakes. Service was efficient with tea and a jug of hot milk (upon our request for daughters cereal) being served to our table quickly each day.

Location of hotel - around 10 minute walk to Las Ramblas, around 15 minutes to the port. There are a selection of restaurants literally on the doorstep of the hotel, also a pharmacy, and grocery shops. I would recommend the Turkish restaurant next to the hotel called "A La Turk" for good halal food. The chicken wrap was delicious as was the pizza.

Rooftop pool is a little on the small side, however it was never crowded, although we went towards the end of the day when the sun was going down. There was a changing room with clean towels and shower next to the pool. Also sun loungers and a gym.

I would stay here again, and would be happy to recommend it.

Room Tip: Apparently the higher floors have smaller rooms?..or so we were told by reception.
